Our reception children have had a fantastic day exploring Austerfield Study Centre. The children enjoyed pond dipping and they learnt how to make a figure of 8 with their nets in the water to catch the pond life. The children found water beetles, small fish and pond snails. The children observed the pond life in small water trays using the magnifying glasses. Reception worked collaboratively and went on a minibeast hunt, looking for stones painted like insects and bugs. Reception became explorers and walked through the forest to find the perfect spot to hunt for marvellous minibeasts. The children had fun looking under logs, rocks and sticks to find ants, woodlice and slugs. The children placed a white sheet on the floor and gently shook trees to find out which minibeasts live in the trees. We were so proud of all our reception children because they were respectful of the insects and they took great care of all of the equipment provided. It was lovely to see all of the children laughing, smiling and having fun in the outdoors!
