Headteacher's Welcome
Welcome to our school website!
I hope that you enjoy finding out all about Bawtry Mayflower Primary School and the exciting learning that happens here.
On behalf of the children, staff and Governors, I welcome you to Bawtry Mayflower Primary School. Bawtry Mayflower is a Local Authority maintained primary school on the outskirts of Doncaster. We serve the communities of Bawtry and Austerfield which are both steeped in history. We are a vibrant, inclusive and family orientated school with a strong community ethos within South Yorkshire. I am so proud to be Headteacher of this caring community of learners with a fantastic staff team, dedicated Governors, supportive parents and happy, engaged children.
Selecting a school for your child is a daunting process and I realise how important it is to feel trust in the people that care for your child each day. Each of our staff is highly dedicated and will always go the extra mile to ensure that every child is valued, inspired and engaged. We are extremely proud of the curriculum that we have in school. It has been produced by our staff, for our children and community and uses the principles of cognitive science to ensure that the children are happy, independent learners who achieve their very best.
This academic year, we have our Foundation Stage Unit where our Nursery and Reception learn together. We are a single form entry school meaning there is one class for every year group from Year 1 to Year 6. Our teachers are experts at planning for, and teaching single year classes and our curriculum is planned to support this.
We believe that education is about the entire child, their well-being and enrichment as well as their academic achievement. Over the last year, we have worked as a team to enhance the academic success, curriculum and outdoor environment and appearance of our school and there is still more to come! Recent additions have been our new outdoor classroom, the Hive and Lifeboat room for sensory support and our new wrap-around service with First Step Active Care. We’d love you to be a part of our journey as we strive for our entire community to BELIEVE, ACHIEVE AND SUCCEED.
In our latest Ofsted report (March 2025), inspectors reported 'school has high expectations for pupils’ behaviour and achievement. Pupils achieve very well in national assessments at the end of key stage 2. Many pupils meet the high expectations the school has for their behaviour. They benefit from learning in calm and purposeful lessons.
We are all very proud of our school, of its commitment to high standards and of its inclusive ethos and we would be delighted to show you around should you wish to find out more about us.
Kind regards,
Mrs Lisa Powell
Headteacher
