School Based Interventions

Our offer

Pastoral interventions are designed to provide holistic support that addresses the diverse needs of our students. At Bawtry Mayflower Primary, we focus on fostering a sense of belonging, resilience, and emotional intelligence among our pupils. Here, you'll find a wealth of resources, guidance, and strategies aimed at promoting positive mental health and well-being.

Whether it's through mentoring programs, counselling services, or peer support initiatives, our interventions are aligned with current best practices and educational research. We believe in the power of collaboration with staff, parents, and the wider community to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed both personally and academically.

Explore our resources to learn more about how we can work together to provide the pastoral care that supports the holistic development of each pupil. Together, we can cultivate a nurturing environment where every child can flourish.

Below are some of the interventions that we run in school using our highly trained staff.

Drawing and Talking is a therapeutic intervention for children, young people and adults. It is designed as a short-term, time limited, pro-active intervention intended to complement, rather than replace, the work of specialist mental health services.

The Drawing and Talking therapeutic intervention allows individuals to discover and communicate emotions through a non-directed technique.

Lego-based therapy (LeGoff et al 2014) is an evidence based approach that aims to develop social communication skills, such as sharing, turn-taking, following rules, using names and problem-solving.

In practice, children work in groups of three with each participant having a distinct role to build a Lego model collaboratively

Sensory Circuits uses sensory-based movement activities that help children and young people to achieve the ‘just right’ level of alertness they need to prepare themselves for the day’s learning. The circuits are based on the theory and principles of Sensory Integration.

Sensory Circuits use sensory-based movement activities which prepare children and young people for the day’s learning and help them to achieve the ‘just right’ level of alertness they need to concentrate.

They are made up of around 15-20 minutes of activities to help with sensory regulation.

The aim of setting up a sensory circuit is to provide a way for children and young people to regularly receive a controlled sensory input. They can be done with a small group of children at the start of the school day or after lunch break

Parent-child relationships are critical to supporting emotional wellbeing. In school we have staff trained as facilitators to deliver the Solihill program for parents to learn about children’s emotional health, development and behaviour.

Several members of our staff are trained in the Rainbows.

The rainbows program provides an emotionally safe environment for children and young people to guide them through grieving a significant and often devastating loss, resulting from the impact of a death, relationship breakdown or other serious change in their lives.
Rainbows Programmes provide a safe setting for children and young people to talk through their feelings with others who are experiencing similar situations. They are helped to articulate their feelings by a trained adult facilitator whom they know and trust.

Confidentiality, which is at the heart of all Rainbows Programmes, is kept at all times unless a child or young person is at risk, in which case the school’s safeguarding procedures are followed.
