Meet Our Team!
Miss Claire Dunn – Year 6 Class Teacher
Mrs Claire Twidle – Year 6 Teaching Assistant
Mrs Laura Sturrock – Teaching Assistant
The School Day Children should be dropped off/arrive on school grounds ready for the doors into the Year 5/6 building to open at 8:35am. Lessons begin at 8:40; any child arriving after 8:45am will receive a late mark and should report to the school office. The school day finishes at 3:10pm and any children being collected should be picked up at this time. In Year 6, we are fostering children’s skills of independence and organisation, in preparation for their transition to secondary school. As such, we encourage children to take responsibility for their own belongings, and their preparation for the day ahead, by making sure that they bring everything that they need with them. Each day, the children need to bring a coat, water bottle and a packed lunch (if they are not having a school dinner). They also need to bring their reading book and reading record with them, as these are needed daily for independent reading and for recording spellings to learn at home and any homework set. They should take these home with them every night. On Fridays, children need to remember to bring their brass instruments with them and those children who participate in guitar lessons on Mondays, will need to ensure they have their instrument in school on this day. Children should ensure that they wear full uniform, including a tie, to school every day; they need to wear appropriate, black footwear, in line with our uniform policy which can be found on our website. |
PE Days PE day in Year 6 is Wednesday. All pupils need to bring an appropriate PE kit on their allocated PE day. Children will need the following items of clothing in their PE kits:
Please note - football shirts/strips should not be worn. |
Reading and Learning at Home Reading – children must aim to read for 10 minutes each day: research shows that the more a child reads at home, the more progress they will make. If an adult is unable to listen to their child read at home, Year 6 children can independently record their reading into their reading records, asking their parents or carers to sign to say that they have completed the reading recorded. Children will have spellings to learn each week linked to the spelling pattern/rule being taught in lessons and these lists will also include Y5/6 homophones and/or Year 5/6 statutory spellings. Homework will be set weekly using the CGP books that families have purchased for their children. This will be marked in class, in our homework session each week. Mathsbot (see link below) is a free website that allows children to generate arithmetic questions for additional practise. Once completed, children can self-mark their work and identify any errors made. This website works on laptops, tablets and other mobile devices such as phones. We would highly recommend the use of this resource for children to continue to develop their arithmetic skills. Here are some useful websites to support children with their home learning: |
ParentPay ParentPay can be used to pay school meals and for any other trips / visits that are planned in school.
