Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.

Nursery & Reception

Our Star of the Week for Nursery this week is Lacey. Lacey has had a brilliant first week in Nursery. She has settled in really well, she has listened and followed the instructions, she has adapted to the routines of the classroom and made some great friends. It's like she's always been a part of the class. Well done Lacey!

Star of the week this week in Reception is Milo. Milo comes to school every day with the biggest smile which has made us all feel really happy first thing in the morning. Milo is always choosing to do the right thing in the classroom, showing his friends what the Mayflower way is. Milo is kind and considerate thinking of others before himself, if he notices someone that is on their own Milo goes to make sure that they are okay. Milo always tries his best during any learning or activities but this week he has been trying even harder and has been super focused during phonics. Milo has done some fantastic handwriting this week which he was so proud of. Well done Milo 🙂

Year 1

David - David has had an amazing start to Bawtry Mayflower! He has settled in wonderfully, made lots of friends and has been working hard. Starting at a new school isn't easy, but he has really tried his best to join in, listen, and learn our school rules. We are going to have a wonderful year!

Cole - Cole has had a wonderful first week back at school. He has been making great choices, listening really carefully in lessons, and trying his best with his work. Cole is showing lots of respect for school property and really kindly tidies up and helps others without being asked. Keep up the super work, Cole!

Year 2

This week we have been thinking about "new year; new start". Everyday is a brand new day and a new opportunity to forget what might not have gone to plan and start over. However, the new year is a fantastic opportunity to set ourselves goals and start our journey to achieving them. With this in mind, Year 2's Stars of the Week are:

Blu-Belle - for having renewed confidence in herself and her abilities. She is coming into school with much more enthusiasm and is showing that she really wants to learn. Keep that positivity flowing, Blu-Belle!

Daniel - for having such a brilliant attitude towards all aspects of school, including his work and his relationships with others. He is producing some fantastic work and shows respect towards adults and children alike. Well done, Daniel. Keep it up!

Year 3

Annie D - Annie has been a superstar this week! She has really impressed me with her attitude towards learning. She has worked collaboratively with her partner to tackle difficult challenges and has not given up! Annie is always kind and respectful and she has shone like a star this week. Keep it up.

Martha - Wow - what a fantastic week Martha has had this week. She has listened carefully and this has helped her to complete her work. She has worked independently on tasks and also shared in group discussions when asked to. I am really impressed with her positive attitude to learning.

Year 4

Fletcher - Fletcher has had an outstanding start to the year. He has been determined to do well in class, has completed all work and challenges to a high standard and has shown what a kind and caring person he is when working with other children. What an excellent start to 2025 - well done!

Mae - Mae has made a flying start to 2025 and shown how incredibly hard she works and with such determination to complete her work to a high standard. She has supported others with reading and confidently modelled expressive and fluent reading to her group. Very impressive Mae!

Year 5

This week Charlotte has shown great perseverance when faced with tasks that have challenged her. It is lovely to see her confidence in new and unfamiliar situations growing.  Well done Charlotte! Keep it up!

This week Harry has demonstrated resilience in new and unfamiliar situations. He has perservered when challenged with new learning and is beginning to understand that he can learn from his mistakes. Well done Harry! Keep it up!

Year 6

There have been lots of children in Year 6 who have impressed me this week and we have had a positive week back following the Christmas break. These children have particularly impressed me this week with the attitude towards learning in this new year:

Jack D - Jack has shown a positive attitude towards his learning this week. He has proven that he can be confident and resilient and has given every lesson his full attention and focus. He has tried hard in all lessons across the curriculum. What a fantastic start to the new year Jack - I am very proud of you.

Alicia - Alicia has proven herself to be a determined and resilient learner this week. She has worked hard in all lessons across the curriculum and has given everything her all - even when she has found learning tricky. You have had a fantastic start to the new year Alicia and I am very proud of you.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.

This week’s Superstar Award goes to Daniel B in Year 2. Our theme this week was New Year – Be the best version of you! He has really shone in doing this, in and out of the classroom. We are all so proud of the progress he is making and the friendships he is forming too. A super start to the year! Well done!

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Reception applications for September 2025

If you have a child who will turn 4 years old on or before 31st August 2025 and haven't yet made an application for their Reception place for September 2025, please remember that the deadline for applications is next Wednesday, 15th January.

If your home address is within the Doncaster Council Local Authority, please click on the link below to make your application.
https://www.doncaster.gov.uk/services/schools/primary-admissions

If your home address is outside of the Doncaster Council Local Authority, you will need to apply through your Local Authority for a nursery place.

National Offer Date is 16th April 2025 - parents/carers will be emailed their decision, using the email account used to apply.

Crossing Patrol Warden - Station Road and Doncaster Road

We are pleased to advise parents/carers that there will now be a Crossing Patrol Warden on Doncaster Road starting from next Tuesday, 14th January. Doncaster Council has advised that Sandra will be on Doncaster Road from 8.10am to 8.50am each morning and then from 2.55pm to 3.35pm each afternoon. We hope you will welcome Sandra and let her know how important her role is, particularly on such a busy road.

Sue, the Crossing Patrol Warden on Station Road, has been helping to train Sandra. Sue will be working with Sandra on Doncaster Road next Tuesday morning, which means that for Tuesday morning only there won't be a Crossing Patrol Warden on Station Road.

Free School Meals and additional funding for children

We thought it would be useful to share information each term regarding Free School Meals with parents/carers. Some parents/carers may not realise that they are eligible, for example if their circumstances have recently changed. Parents/Carers with children in Years 2 and below may also not have applied for Free School Meals as their child already receives a free meal which is funded by the Government's Universal Infant Free School Meals initiative.

Children who are eligible for means-tested Free School Meals are also entitled to receive additional funding called Pupil Premium. This is a grant provided by the Government which school will receive for 6 years to enable us to support the children and enhance their education.

For further information regarding Free School Meals, please click on the link below.

https://www.doncaster.gov.uk/services/schools/free-school-meals

If you live in a different Local Authority to Doncaster, please visit your own Local Authority's website for further information on Free School Meals.

If you think you are eligible and would like us to make the application on your behalf, we are more than happy to do this if you contact the school office.

If you can be anything online, be kind!

Just before Christmas, we ran a competition based around 'If you can be anything online.......be kind'. The children who wanted to take part were asked to promote kindness online in any form they wished (poem, picture etc). There were some excellent entries and our Digital Leaders had a hard time choosing the winners! The winners are below:

Key Stage 1 - 1st Henry, 2nd Connor

Key Stage 2 - 1st Valentina, 2nd Sophie

Thank you to everyone who entered. Some of the entries have been used to create some artwork in our lower hall.

Holiday Club at Bawtry Mayflower

Last term, we asked parents/carers to complete a survey for our wraparound/after school provider First Step Active Care, who were looking into the possibility of running a holiday club here at Bawtry Mayflower. Thank you to those who completed the survey. The results of this survey showed that there was a definite need for a holiday club at school and lots of parents/carers expressed their interest.

We are pleased to announce that the first holiday club will run during February half term, on the following dates:

Tuesday 18th February

Wednesday 19th February

Thursday 20th February

The holiday club will run in our Lifeboat Room, where First Step Active Care currently runs the wraparound care and after school club. As soon as we have the flyer for the holiday club, we will share it with parents/carers so that bookings can be made.
