Pupil absence
Could we please remind parents/carers that it is really important to let us know as soon as possible if your child won't be in school on a particular day. The office is open from 7.45am each morning, but if it's more convenient for you to ring before this time you can leave a message on the answer machine. These messages are picked up by the office staff as soon as they arrive at school. We will need you to provide the reason for absence so that this can be recorded correctly on the register.
Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them.
Foundation
Blu-Belle - super hungry caterpillar writing, she Fred Talked the words that she needed and was able to write the sounds down that she could hear.
Georgia - for working really hard at writing her name. She practises every morning and has been working hard at home too. She really carefully forms the letters that she needs in her name.
1/2A Mrs Davies
Olivia - for trying really hard to concentrate on her own work, using all the strategies she has learnt to complete her work.
Evie - for always being polite, kind and ready to learn and always applying the strategies she knows to complete her work.
1/2B Miss Cruickshanks
Oscar F - for being an 'always' child. Always being ready to learn with magnet eyes. Always trying his very best and for being the array wizard in his multiplication learning this week.
Olivia C - for being an irreplaceable member of my class, being a multiplication superstar and for really starting to show her true potential in her tutuoring for taking her time and producing some FANTASTIC results. I am very proud of you.
1/2C Mrs Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor
Florence - Over the past week, Florence has been coming into school with a big smile of her face. She has started her learning promptly and is always trying to complete it to the best of her ability. She has worked quietly and sensibly and we are really pleased with her!
Ella - Ella is ALWAYS trying her very best. She works hard in all subjects and completes her work to the highest standard. We are so proud of how determined she is with her learning - especially with learning the year 2 spellings! Keep going!
3/4A Mrs Wood
George: For working hard and showing respect. George has got on with his learning and shown respect to the adults who have been at the front of the class this week.
Quentin: For taking everything on board during reading fluency and transferring these skills over into reading lessons. Mrs Miller was very impressed.
3/4B Mrs Perry
Piper: For working hard. She has shown good understanding when using retrieval skills in reading. She persevered when editing her independent write and she has tried hard to grasp the concept of time in maths.
Oliver: For working hard. He works hard in all subjects and has particularly tried in maths when learning time on analogue and digital. He has taken feedback on board and progressed with his learning because of this.
5/6A Miss Dunn
Alesha - our theme this week has been about how to be a good citizen in the wider community and also in school. Alesha always shows that she is a good citizen in school. She hands out resources to other children, picks things up that she finds lying around and tidies up - even if she hasn't made the mess. She does all this quietly and without making a fuss. I am proud to have her as a member of our class community.
Rowan embodies the qualities of a good citizen that we have discussed in pupil voice this week. He always offers to help children and adults in the classroom - even if it means that he will miss some breaktime or if it makes him slightly late out at the end of the day. Rowan helps to hand out resources, to collect work and to make sure that our classroom environment is nice and tidy. I'd be lost without him!
5/6B Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker
Lorna and Ellis - for being good citizens. They are respectful of other people and their property, they follow the school rules and they always display good character e.g. honesty, good listening and kindness.
Contacting the school office
If you need to contact the school office with something urgent for that particular day, could you please ring rather than emailing. The office staff can then ensure that the message is passed on to the appropriate member of staff for you. We do aim to provide an initial response to any emails sent within 48 hours and in the majority of instances do respond well within this timeframe. There may be occasions, however, where this is not possible and we wouldn't want any important messages that are for that day to be missed, so a phone call is much better to ensure this doesn't happen.
Special request from Foundation
Does anyone have any spare compost, soil, plant pots or seeds that you would be willing to donate to our Foundation Stage please, so that the children can have a go at planting for their topic Ready, Steady, Grow? If you do have a donation, could you please bring it to the school office next week.
Mothers Day Shop Thursday 16th March
Our PTA has asked us to share the poster below with you. It provides details of their Mothers Day Shop, which will take place during school time next Thursday, 16th March.
If you wish your child to take part, please send them with some money in a purse/wallet or envelope with their name on it next Thursday. Unfortunately, the school office no longer have any cash at all, so will not be able to split notes for siblings or provide any money in the case of children forgetting their purse/wallet.
It would also be helpful if those that wish to take part remembered to bring their money next Thursday morning please, as we cannot guarantee that any money brought into the office after the start of the school day will get to your child's class in time for them to attend the shop.
If you have any spare time available next Thursday and would be willing to help at the shop, could you please contact the PTA via their Facebook page.
Non-uniform day Friday 17th March
We will be having a non-uniform day next Friday, 17th March. As part of this, we would like to ask for donations of the following items which our PTA can then use as raffle prizes etc throughout the year:
We are aware that it is Red Nose Day next Friday too. If you would like to make a donation to Comic Relief, we have a provided a link below to enable you to do so.

Of course, as always, there is no obligation for any donation for your child to take part in the non-uniform day next Friday.
Science Fair Friday 17th March
Rainbows Support Programme
We are pleased to announce an addition to our school programme. Beginning in the Summer term, we will be having weekly support groups for our children who are living in single parent, step-families, or have experienced any painful loss. This programme is called Rainbows.
When something significant happens in the family, the entire family is affected. Even through death, divorce or other loss issues appear to be only grown-up problems, they have a profound effect on the children who are touched by such experiences. If a parent dies or a divorce happens or a painful loss occurs, not only do the parents grieve, the children do also. Children may find it extremely difficult to verbalise their feelings of grief because of their age and inexperience.
We have some very sensitive, caring and trained adults who have said ‘yes’ to helping these children put their feelings into words, work through their grief, build a stronger sense of self-esteem, and begin to accept what has taken place in the family.
If your child is part of a single parent family, a step family, has experienced the death of a loved family member, friend or sibling, or is struggling through a painful experience, this will be an opportunity for them to share with a special someone.
Through this support group we hope to assist your child in expressing and understanding their feelings, to feel accepted for what has happened, and to feel a sense of belonging and love. We will accomplish this through peer support groups and adult Facilitators to guide them as they begin to share their experiences.
If this is something you would be interested in your child taking part in, please come to the school office at the beginning of next week to collect an information leaflet and registration form.
Easter Church Service Wednesday 29th March - volunteers needed!
We will be going to St Nicholas' Church for our Easter Service on the morning of Wednesday 29th March. The staff and children from Years 1 to 6 will be walking to the church, setting off from school that morning straight after the class registers have been taken.
If you would like to join us and walk to the church and back with the children, please let school know as soon as possible.
If you bring your child to school, please let your child's class teacher know that you are available to join us. Otherwise, please ring the school office on 01302 710721 or email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk to let us know you are available.
If you are walking with us, please come to the school office once your child is in their class on Wednesday 29th March.
Bug hotel competition
We would like you to design the bug hotel for our wildflower area in the allotment. It will need to be a labelled design and include all the resources that you will need. We would like you to try and recycle different materials such as old pipes or plastic bottles.
All the children will be given one of the following sheets to complete and will bring this home in the next few days.
Good luck!
Recognition Board Success
Congratulations to the children below who have received their Recognition badges from Mrs Powell this week. They all got their names under all 3 categories on the Recognition board - Work Hard, Be Kind and Be Respectful. Well done everyone!
If your child has been awarded with their Recognition Badge recently and hasn't yet appeared on one of our Friday blogs, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and we will make sure we celebrate their success on one of our future blogs.
Congratulations!
Mason from Year 2 received a very very special award this week. He was awarded 'Beaver of the month' and got a super special toggle to go on his Beaver's necker. Mason started attending a beaver group in the next village so knew only 1 child in the group. Mason was determined to stay at the group, even though it was sometimes difficult not knowing many people. He now loves going and has gained so many badges for working hard.
Wow Mason that’s absolutely brilliant! What a superstar! You’ve done so well not knowing many people and it just shows what amazing determination you have. Thank you for sharing this with us and we are all so proud of you.
Another superstar who wanted to share his achievements with us is Leo in Year 1. Leo was recently awarded his Stage 5 AND Stage 6 certificates in the same lesson! Wow Leo, you must be an amazing swimmer and be working very hard. We would give you another certificate if we could just for your amazing smile - what a proud smile and rightly so! We can't wait to share your next success on one of our future blogs - we're sure it won't be long, as you're doing brilliantly in your swimming lessons.
Zara and Esme, both in Year 4, recently performed on stage at Bawtry Phoenix Theatre as part of Mini Players first performance - a showcase from Mary Poppins. The girls enjoyed the performance and did really well. They are now working on their next show. Well done girls! We can't wait to hear all about your next show and look forward to you sharing it with us.
PTA Allotment Project
Yesterday was the official opening of the school's new allotment. The town Mayor as well as representatives from the Tickhill and District Lions Club, The Co-op and the PTA came to help celebrate the opening of this fantastic new addition to the school.
Back in October 2022, the PTA approached the school with a proposal of reinvigorating the previous allotment space, with funding provided. Pupils in KS2 had already created plans for the area, which included the features they wanted as well as the plants and costing and these were used to create a finalised plan. After contacting various local businesses and groups for financial and labour support, a task force was established and volunteers spent two full days re-designing and landscaping the area. Now within the area, there is a shed, greenhouse, two planters for each phase in the school, a soft fruit section, a variety of fruit trees, a bug hotel, a wildflower garden and a sensory garden.
The allotment will be a wonderful space for all pupils to access across the year. An Eco Council will now be established, which will help to maintain the area and ensure that it is being enjoyed by the whole school community. If you are able to help support the allotment by providing any compost, trays, seeds, plants or any other equipment then we would be very grateful for your contributions. We can't wait to get growing!
Easter Egg Raffle
We would like to hold an Easter Egg raffle during the last week of this term. All the staff will be donating Easter eggs/chocolate and we would like to ask for donations of these items from parents/carers too if possible. If you are able to donate something, could you please bring it to the school office over the next few weeks.
Raffle tickets will be on sale in each classroom and also in the school office from Monday 27th March and the raffle will be drawn on Friday 31st March during the school day.
Can you help our PTA at the Summer Fair?
Our PTA are a fantastic group, who raise very much needed funds to enable our children to have extra experiences and resources that we wouldn't otherwise be able to provide. The Summer Fair will be held on 22nd June. If you could spare a small amount of time to help on the day, it would be so very gratefully appreciated.
If you are interested in helping, please call into the school office to add your name to the list. Thank you to those who have already volunteered.
