Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week Miss Hoggart's class had the highest attendance with a fabulous 100%! Well done Nursery!

Please see below for the attendance figures for this week. The target attendance for all children is currently set at 97%.

As you are aware, each class with 100% attendance on a particular day will receive one letter from the word MAYFLOWER to put on their classroom door. Once a class has spelt out the word MAYFLOWER, a member of the class will bring all their letters down to the office to claim their prize from our box of Awesome Attendance Activities!

Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.

Nursery & Reception

Hattie in Nursery for a brilliant first few weeks. She has settled well into the class. She listens to instructions and tries her best to do what is asked of her. She is kind and caring towards the other children in the class. Keep up the good work Hattie!

Evie in Reception for improved focus and attention in Read Write Inc and extra effort in her independent writing. Mrs Ward has noticed a big difference. She has also done super maths work this week and has been really quick at working out the doubles of numbers. Well done Evie!

Year 1

Thomas S takes responsibility when he arrives into class, before his peers, from breakfast club. He always offers to help the adults and takes responsibility by helping to get the classroom ready at the start of the day.  He puts things out onto tables and helps so that when the children come in, everything is ready for them to start their morning task.

Evie enjoys taking responsibility in different ways.  She happily helps one of the other class members in the line and coming in and out of school.  She also likes to make sure that her table is tidy and takes responsibility in making sure it is tidy and clear throughout the day.  This is a great help to the adults and the children on her table.

Year 2

Noah J - for always taking responsibility for his own learning and behaviour. Noah has become an absolute superstar in our class. He is eager to learn and always tries his best. He has overcome his worries about learning and is producing some amazing work. He has done all of this because he has taken responsibility for his own self-improvement and he believes in himself.  Well done Noah!

Olive - for taking responsibility for not only being the very best she can be but for also for helping the class to be the very best they can be. She tries hard with all her work and is willing to help others. She quietly and conscientiously demonstrates our school values. She is a star. Well done, Olive!

Year 3

My stars of the week this week are my whole class. They've been a credit to the school this week. They had a wonderful time on residential, they were a pleasure to take away and represented the school fantastically. A number of children showed resilience, determination and overcame fears which is an amazing achievement. The children supported each other in overcoming fears and testing comfort zones, they were good friends to all and brilliant role models. It was a pleasure to take them away.

Year 4

Harry - Harry has been an absolute star this week. He has followed all of our school rules and worked incredibly hard in lessons. He has taken responsibility for his own learning, looked for ways to improve and made his work the very best it can be.

Sophia - Sophia has been a supportive and helpful member of our class again this week. She has shown a lot of care for others and supported them in making the right choices in class. She has taken responsibility for looking after the school resources and keeping them tidy and organised.

Year 5

Jack - Jack understands that hard work leads to success. He has a positive attitude to learning and shows that he is a responsible learner by taking increased ownership of his own learning. He now reviews his own work independently and can identify what he has done well. Keep it up Jack!

Sophie - Sophie has a positive attitude to learning and is beginning to take increased ownership of her own learning. Sophie will confidently tell someone if she has problems doing her work and always listens to feedback which will take her learning further. Well done Sophie, keep up the hard work!

Year 6

This week in school, our focus has been on one of our learning powers: Be Responsible. The adults across school have been looking for those children who show responsibility by looking out for others in particular. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind:

Scarlett - Scarlett is a responsible member of the class who always shows regard for the feelings of others. She shows good emotional awareness and checks in with her friends when she recognises that they may not be feeling their best. Scarlett often asks how people are and shows compassion and understanding to her peers.

Leo - Leo consistently makes a conscious effort to look out for others; he always asks how people are and is very attuned to the emotions of others. Leo makes me smile on a daily basis by checking in on me and his peers, asking simple questions such as, "Are you okay?" or "Have you had a good lunch break?". He shows a genuine regard for others and this is unwavering.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.

My superstar award for this week goes to Fletcher in Year 3. This week he has shown unreserved determination to do his very best in absolutely everything. He has shown courage and resilience on our residential and in other challenging situations this week. Progress in what he can do, will do and try to do has been amazing. I am so proud. Well done Fletcher, you are so deserving of this award this week.

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign that the children will be learning next week.

Message to Year 6

SATs Y6.jpg

Parent Governor

We are pleased to announce that Julia Pepper has been appointed as our new Parent Governor. We look forward to welcoming Julia onto the Board and are excited for her contribution in ensuring we continue to grow and flourish.

Year 6 SATs breakfast

Don't forget we would like to invite all children in Year 6 to join us for breakfast from 8:15am next Monday to Thursday, prior to their SATs taking place on those mornings. This will give them the opportunity to enjoy breakfast with their friends and settle into the school day in order to prepare for the day ahead . We will provide children with a range of options to choose from; please let us know if your child has any dietary requirements that school are not yet aware of.

If your child is unable to join us for breakfast on these days, please ensure that they arrive in school for the start of the school day at 8:40am.

Music Tuition

If your child is in Years 2 to 5 and you wish them to start/continue with music lessons for the next school year, please let us know by Monday as the deadline was today.

Please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk to inform us - please ensure you put the instrument of choice (guitar or woodwind) in your email.

Likewise, if your child currently has music tuition in school and no longer wishes to take part next year, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk to advise us of this by Monday at the latest.

We have not heard from quite a few parents/carers whose children currently have music tuition in school. We need to book the music sessions at the beginning of next week and once this has been booked we cannot amend this.

No Tea & Talk Wednesday 15th May

Just a quick reminder that there will be no Tea & Talk session on Wednesday 15th May, due to it being SATs week next week. Of course, if you have any concerns or worries that you would like to speak to school about, as always please see your child's class teacher, Mrs Westerman (our Family Manager) or Mrs Powell.

Year 3 residential to Austerfield Study Centre

Our Year 3 children went on their residential at the beginning of this week to Austerfield Study Centre. For many of them, this was their first experience of spending the night away from their parents/carers and they coped tremendously well - probably due to the fact that it was non-stop fun from start to finish! We are so proud of you Year 3!

Some of the children have shared with us their experience at Austerfield, including their favourite bits.

Maddison – I was a bit nervous at bedtime because I haven’t slept without my mum and dad. I felt happy when I’d done it. The best thing was playing bakeries with my friends with the rocks and mud that were there.

Elliot – the best bit was playing football when we had free time. We had a camp fire.

Evelyn – the best thing about it was we all got to see our friends and we all had a camp fire. We had hot chocolate. The second day in the afternoon we had 3 groups – 1 group made iron age paintings, another group was roasting crumpets and buns and the third group was trying to make a fire. I made a fire. I stroked Cornelius the corn snake. He had a bump in him on his back – I wasn’t sure why. He was so soft. We saw shrimps when we went to go and rinse the snake’s bowls out. We also saw a bearded dragon called Hugo. His back legs didn’t work any more – he was 16 years old.

Evie – the best bit was where me, Lilly, Mae and Evelyn all got in Lilly’s bed and slept together. In free time, we all did gymnastics and other activities. We also built dens. We put some brown stuff on the top and Miss Scott threw some water on to see if we got wet. In our den, we had a sofa, chandelier, a toilet and a fire.  I held Cornelius the corn snake. Its skin was shedding.

We will share some photos on next week's blog. Please head over to our X (Twitter) page to see the updates from the residential, including lots of photos.

Congratulations!

Rosa in Nursery competed in her first dance competitions in the last few weeks and won a medal both times! Rosa was the youngest competitor at the event. Well done Rosa - what a superstar you are! You clearly love your dancing and did amazingly well, not only to take part, but to win some medals at your first event.

Well Done!

Thomas in Year 3 recently had an operation and was away from school for a couple of weeks to recover. Thomas wanted to share this picture with us, as he was so brave before, during and after the operation. As you can see, his beautiful smile is shining through even from his hospital bed!

We are glad you have fully recovered Thomas and are so happy that you are back with us in school.

Lunch Menu for week commencing 13th May 2024

Please see the menu below for next week. There may need to be last minute changes to the menus on occasion, to take into account availability of items or delivery issues.

As the new menus are now in place, Mrs Stanfield our school cook has monitored which meals the children enjoy and which aren't so popular. As a result, she has made adjustments to this week's menu.
