Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.

Nursery & Reception

Dahlia in Nursery for excellent listening this week, and making really lovely comments on our Autumn walk about what she could see.

Louie in Reception for confidently sharing his thoughts and ideas in class discussions about what he's been learning this week.

Year 1

Rares  – For showing kindness and being thoughtful towards his peers. Rares has completed some great work this week for Mental Health Week and has shown great enthusiasm in suggesting strategies in which we can help each other with when we want to feel positive. I am very proud to see your confidence grow Rares, well done!

Gabriel – For always making sure he is following school rules and using good manners with everyone. Gabriel has shown willingness to work independently in his writing tasks and your positive attitude in your learning is lovely to see. Well done!

Year 2

Sadie - for quietly and conscientiously looking out for herself and other members of the class, whether it be by checking they have the right equipment, asking them if they are okay, or being an excellent role model for them to follow. She truly is a well-being champion.

Oscar M - for being a fabulous well-being champion in our classroom. He looks out for other children and his teachers, ensuring they are happy and have everything they need. He even has everything prepared and organised before his teachers have even thought about what they need!

Year 3

Maggie: Maggie is a very kind member of our class. Every morning she will walk into school with a big smile and say good morning are you ok to everybody she sees. Maggie always goes above and beyond to be kind and be a good friend to everyone. Maggie is a pleasure to have in our class.

Noah: Noah always demonstrates kindness within our class. He is a good friend to everyone, he thrives in our class buddy role and goes above and beyond to help his peers. Noah is an asset to our class and a pleasure to have in year 3.

Year 4

Elizabeth - Elizabeth is kind to everyone. Her infectious smile and caring nature shine every single day in class. She checks in on other people to make sure they are ok and she is always noticing when people may need help or just a hug.

Ariana - Ariana is a caring and considerate member of our class. She is incredibly helpful to other children and is always willing to give other people a few tips or hints with their learning. Her behaviour is excellent and she always follows the school rules.

Year 5

This week in school, we have been focusing on positive mental health and the children have been thinking about how to manage their own worries and about the things that they can do to help themselves, and others, when they feel worried or nervous about something. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 5 have been chosen with this in mind.

Ella - I have seen a real improvement in Ella's confidence this year and her willingness to push herself and to try things, even though she may be worried or nervous about them. I am very proud of you Ella and how well you have settled in Year 5. Keep it up!

Emilie - Emilie is kind and thoughtful. She listens well to others and knows that some people think differently to herself. She will support her peers and help them when they feel worried or nervous about something. Keep being you!!

Year 6

This week in Year 6, we have been celebrating  World Mental Health Day. We have been talking about things that we can do to support our own mental health and the importance of looking out for others and taking small steps to improve our friends' mental health too. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.

Carson - Carson always comes into school with a smile on his face. He follows our school rules all the time and always looks out for other people. He works collaboratively with others and always treats people with kindness and respect. He makes me smile on a daily basis and I know that he does this for his friends too. It's a joy to have you in our class Carson.

Aria - Aria has such a positive attitude towards everything and a positive outlook on life. She shows optimism and sees the good in every situation, approaching challenges as opportunities. Aria is a thoughtful, caring and supportive member of the class who looks out for other people and regularly checks in on others. I am so grateful to have you in Year 6 Aria.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week, Layla in Year 6 was presented with the trophy.

Layla, you are a ray of sunshine and your kindness and generosity is unlimited to others. You shine brightly as a role model who truly lives out our school values.

Well done Layla!

Harvest events next week

A huge thank you to those who have donated food and drink items for Harvest today. We have been blown away by how much has been donated and we know that the food banks will be very grateful for everything they receive. We will make sure this is distributed to them next week.

We are really looking forward to our Harvest events next week.

On Wednesday 18th October, the children from Year 1 to Year 6 will be walking to St Nicholas' church for our annual Harvest Service. We will be setting off straight after morning registration (approx 9.15am). If you would like to walk there and back to church with us to enjoy the Harvest Service, please let your child's teacher know by Monday 16th October please.

We will also be holding a raffle in school next week to raise funds to enable us to provide additional fun opportunities for the children. There will be lots of prizes, including Doncaster Rovers tickets, food hampers, sweet treats etc.

Tickets will be on sale from Monday to Thursday next week in class. They will also be on sale in the school office before and after school from Monday to Thursday (with the exception of Tuesday afternoon, when the school office is closed as normal). The tickets will cost £1 per strip of 5 tickets.

The raffle will be drawn next Friday, 20th October after our Celebration Assembly.

Christmas Art Project 2023

Don't forget that the deadline to get the completed Christmas Art Project order form back to school is next Wednesday 18th October to ensure delivery in time for Christmas. No payments are required at this stage. Once the company have received the artwork and order forms, parents/carers will receive a text/email with their personal order code so you can then log in, place your orders, and make payment online directly with Xmas4Schools.

All products ordered will be delivered back to school and sent home with the children. We will of course keep you updated at each stage of the process and provide a reminder of deadline dates. Please keep an eye out on our Friday weekly blog for further details.

Thank you for supporting our latest school ticket initiative, we really appreciate your support and we can see this is having a huge impact on our match day as we are seeing a lot more families attending our games. This is something we really want to continue with throughout the season and our next game is less than 2 weeks away vs Hartpury on Saturday 21st October.

Parents Evenings for this term

The parents evenings for this term will be held on Tuesday 7th November and Wednesday 8th November. Appointments will be available to book on both days for all classes except:

Nursery - appointments will be available for Tuesday 7th November only
Reception - appointments will be available for Wednesday 8th November only

Appointment time slots will need to be booked via ParentMail. The appointment booking system will open from next Wednesday, 18th October at 8am

If you haven't yet registered with ParentMail, please do so as soon as possible. If you have any problems registering, please contact the school office as soon as possible.

Slots do fill up quickly, so please make sure you book as soon as possible after the booking system opens next Wednesday morning.

The discussion between you and your child's teacher will take place in the lower hall (this is a change of venue from when the initial email was sent out earlier this week). Children are welcome to come along if parents wish them to.

PE after half term

Don't forget that after half term, the children will need to come to school in their uniform every day and bring their PE kits to change into on their PE days. If it's easier to remember, your child can bring their PE kit on a Monday and take it home again on a Friday. Obviously, they can just bring it from home on their PE days instead if you prefer.

It is really important that the children get into the habit of remembering their PE kits, as we cannot guarantee that any kits handed in to the school office after the start of the school day will get to class before the PE lesson.

Flu Vaccinations

As you are aware, the flu vaccinations for the children from Reception up to and including Year 6 will take place on Thursday 16th November. At the beginning of next week, we will be sending out a link for parents/carers which provides information about the vaccine together with an electronic consent form. This electronic consent form has replaced the paper form which parents/carers have completed in previous years.

If any children whose parents have consented to have the vaccination are absent on 16th November, the immunisation team will be back in school on 30th November to provide their vaccinations.

The deadline for completion of the electronic consent form is Tuesday 14th November. If your child's form is submitted after this deadline, your child may not be vaccinated on the main session date.
