Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
Ada in Nursery. Ada has been a super star this week. She has done brilliant listening all week and always does what is asked of her. She has set a good example to all of the children. Well done on a brilliant week!
Junie in Reception. Junie has been so helpful this week. She has supported her friends to tidy up the classroom and shows them where things belong. Junie always makes sure she is following our school rules and helps her friends to make sure they follow them as well.
Year 1
Georgia - she is responsible and helps all her friends if they need help with work or if they are upset at break times. She is a great member of our school community.
Travis - he is a lovely member of the school community. He is caring for others when they are hurt or sad and he always has a smile to make our school a happier place.
Year 2
Seren - for helping everyone in our school community by being a good friend to those who need one, organising the resources in the classroom and being a wonderful role model to our new children. You are a star, Seren!
Henry - being a wonderful role model to other children, demonstrating kindness and always being ready to learn. Henry is eager to help and support others in any way he can. Keep it up, Henry!
Year 3
Oscar M - Oscar is an extremely positive role model in the classroom. He consistently works hard and has high expectations of himself. Oscar has been very helpful this week and has used his initiative to be helpful to his peers too. Keep it up.
Ella - I have been very impressed with Ella's consistent positive attitude towards all areas of learning. Her helpful nature means that she can support peers. When doing this, she always ensures she asks questions and prompts her peers so that they can get to an answer independently. You are amazing!
Year 4
Olivia - Olivia is always happy to help. She looks around the classroom for areas to tidy and is excellent at spotting recycling and sorting it out. She does not need to be asked to organise, collect or tidy the classroom because she chooses to do this herself! Every class needs someone as helpful and community minded as Olivia!
Natalie - Natalie has worked incredibly hard this week to organise the books and resources for her table. She did not need reminding to collect books, hand new books out and make sure that everyone had the resources they needed. She always offers to help around the classroom and has been a great help this week!
Year 5
Darcy is a helpful member of our class. She does things, without being asked, to make our classroom and school a nicer place to be. She regularly pushes chairs in, tidies up resources and helps other children to put things away. Thank you for all you do Darcy.
Katie is a helpful member of our class. She always does more than her fair share to tidy away resources and never complains when other children leave things out - she just puts them away with a smile on her face. Thank you for all you do in our class Katie.
Year 6
The theme across school this week has been 'Helping others in the Community'. The adults across school have been looking out for those children in particular who go out of their way to help others in our school community and the wider community. This week's Year 6 Stars of the Week have been chosen with this in mind.
Thomas - Thomas has gone above and beyond this week helping others across school. He willingly gives up his own time during breaks and lunch to help adults and nothing is too much trouble for him. Thank you Thomas for all the help that you have shown me, and others in our school community, this week.
Lily - Lily has stood out this week for being helpful; she always offers to help in the classroom by handing out resources or tidying them away and she has helped some of our younger KS2 members when they have needed it during playtimes. Thank you Lily for the help that you have given to members of our school community this week.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
My superstar award this week goes to Ellie in Year 2. After this week’s assembly, which touched on the importance of helping others in our community after the fallout of the riots in the Summer holidays, Ellie came to tell me how sad it had made her that some older children in the holidays had been causing damage at her local park when she was there. She spoke so passionately about how she wants people to look after where they live to make it a lovely place for everyone to spend time in. Such an activist for positive change Ellie. Keep trying to make the difference in all that you do!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

School Uniform
We have noticed that quite a few children throughout school are not wearing the correct uniform. In particular, lots of children are not wearing school ties. Please ensure that from next week onwards all children are wearing the correct uniform. Thank you in advance for your support with this.
Free School Meals and additional funding for children
We thought it would be useful to share information each term regarding Free School Meals with parents/carers. Some parents/carers may not realise that they are eligible, for example if their circumstances have recently changed. Parents/Carers with children in Years 2 and below may also not have applied for Free School Meals as their child already receives a free meal which is funded by the Government's Universal Infant Free School Meals initiative.
Children who are eligible for means-tested Free School Meals are also entitled to receive additional funding called Pupil Premium. This is a grant provided by the Government which school will receive for 6 years to enable us to support the children and enhance their education.
For further information regarding Free School Meals, please click on the link below.
https://www.doncaster.gov.uk/services/schools/free-school-meals
If you live in a different Local Authority to Doncaster, please visit your own Local Authority's website for further information on Free School Meals.
If you think you are eligible and would like us to make the application on your behalf, we are more than happy to do this if you contact the school office.
Consent/Visit forms
The children should have brought some consent forms home with them today. Could you please ensure they are completed and returned to school by next Friday, 20th September at the very latest. The majority of children will be bringing 4 forms home:
Consent for photos etc
Internet use form
Regular visit form
Consent for School Spider
If your child is new to school this school year, they will just be bringing 2 forms home - the consent for School Spider and the internet use form. You will have already completed the consent for photos form and the regular visit form prior to your child starting with us.
There will be a prize for the class who returns all their forms first.

Asda Rewards - School Cashpot
If you shop at Asda and have the Asda Rewards app, we are hoping you can take a few moments to help us please. Could you please add our school to your app so that we can top up our own Cashpot. When you shop with Asda, Asda will donate 0.5% of the total spend each time to our school. This is additional to your own earnings and doesn't take anything out of your Cashpot.
Thank you in advance for your support with this. We will keep you updated with how our Cashpot is growing.
Flu Vaccinations Thursday 24th October
The School Age Immunisation Team will be coming into school on Thursday 24th October to deliver the flu vaccine to all children from Reception to Year 6. An online form will be sent out in the coming weeks to enable parents/carers to consent to their child taking part in this scheme.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal
One of our families has been in touch with us to ask if we would be willing to take part in the Christmas Shoebox Appeal. The idea of this is that families fill a shoebox for a young family - the shoebox can include items such as toiletries, small toys, sweets/chocolate etc. We would collect the shoeboxes in and then the family who have suggested taking part in this would deliver the shoeboxes to enable them to be distributed. Families who take part are then able to track where in the world their box is delivered to.
Further details of the appeal can be found by clicking the link below. We will provide more information once details of the collection date etc have been finalised.

Christmas Design Project
We are pleased to let parents/carers know that the children will be taking part in a Christmas design project again this year. For those of you who are new to school, the children design a piece of artwork which can then be used by a company to make Christmas cards/mugs etc which can be purchased.
For the last couple of years, we have used a company called Xmas4Schools. We had some lovely feedback from parents/carers about the quality of the products so have decided to use this company again this year. Please click on the link below to have a look at their website.
https://xmas4schools.co.uk/
The children will be creating their designs in school, which will then be sent home with an order form on Friday 11th October. The deadline to get the completed order form back to school will be Friday 18th October to ensure delivery in time for Christmas. No payments are required at that stage. Once the company have received the artwork and order forms, parents/carers will receive a text/email with their personal order code so you can then log in, place your orders, and make payment online directly with Xmas4Schools.
All products ordered will be delivered back to school and sent home with the children. We will of course keep you updated at each stage of the process and provide a reminder of deadline dates. Please keep an eye out on our Friday weekly blog for further details.
