Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who was chosen last week (as a blog wasn't published last week due to issues with our website) and who has been chosen this week, together with the reasons for them being chosen.
Nursery & Reception
Tiana - Every day since she has started, Tiana comes skipping into school with a big smile on her face. She is a brilliant role-model to the other children and sits beautifully, listens well and tries her hardest in everything that is asked of her. She is really kind and caring towards her friends.
Travis - Travis did some super maths work last week. After reading our story 'Train Ride' he created some fantastic train patterns, using different coloured carriages. Well done Travis!
Louis in Reception for improved behaviour and renewed enthusiasm for learning. His teachers are really proud of him.
Georgie in Nursery for a positive attitude towards her learning and trying really hard to do her best.
Year 1
Gabriel - for always showing respect to his peers and the staff in school. He is a lovely role model to everyone around him.
Thomas M - for always being respectful to his peers. He always takes turns, listens to others ideas and shares together.
Reuben - Reuben doesn't always find his learning easy but over the last couple of weeks I have seen a really positive can do attitude with him. He has been working hard to give it a go even if he isn't sure. Keep up the hard work Reuben I am proud of you.
Jacob - Jacob works hard in all he does, recently I have seen him challenge himself further by accepting any additional tasks I have set and by giving me more detailed explanations for his answers in maths reasoning questions.
Year 2
Scarlett - for trying hard to improve her attitude and behaviour towards others. She is now a shining example of how to be respectful to adults and children alike. She remembers to use kind words and actions towards other children and she always says please and thank you. Well done, Scarlett. Keep it up!
Maddison - for being kind, polite and respectful every minute of every day! She is a role model to others, showing that kind words and a genuine smile can really show how much she appreciates others. Maddison always says please and thank you, holds the doors open and helps tidy up in her quiet and conscientious way. You are wonderful, Maddison - keep it up!
Annie W and Jacob B - for always working hard and trying their very best in all areas of the curriculum. They are both quiet and reserved members of our class but they can both be relied upon to quietly and conscientiously do their very best. You should both be very proud of your progress and achievements. Well done!
Year 3
Layla - Layla is a brilliant role model in our class. She shows respect to staff and peers alike. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Layla, she works incredibly hard, gives everything 100%. Layla is polite and goes above and beyond when it comes to showing respect, she respects all school equipment and often reminds peers about respecting school property.
Maddison - Maddison is a great example of what being respectful is. Nothing is too much trouble, Maddison looks for ways to help children and adults, she always holds the door open for people when needed, she will volunteer to tidy the library and the classroom. Maddison shows respect when listening to other people's opinions and views which allows people to feel valued.
Daniel - Daniel has worked very hard since starting the second part of the summer term. He has worked really hard within lessons, particularly within his writing and presentation. I have noticed a big improvement in Daniel's attitude to learning and his confidence in himself. I am really proud of this change in Daniel - keep it up!
Olivia - Olivia has worked very hard in maths this week, she has been determined and tried her best with everything she has done. She has been working independently and helping her peers where she can within maths. I have been really impressed with Olivia's attitude to learning. Well done.
Year 4
Every single Year 4 was a star last week so they were all Stars of the Week!!
They made us all proud with their determination to tackle every challenge, their resilience at all times, their team work, the support they gave each other and their amazing behaviour and manners.
What an outstanding group of children!
All of Year 4 have taken their Multiplication Tables Checks this week and they have given it their absolute best effort! We are all so proud of their dedication, determination and resilience!
Noah - Noah always works hard! He works hard during every lesson whether he likes the subject or not! He works hard when he finds the learning easy and when he finds it tricky. Noah is an excellent example of someone who will always do well because of how hard he works. Excellent Noah!
Joe - Joe works incredibly hard in class. He gives every lesson his full attention and the work he produces is always the best he can do. Joe's determined and hard working attitude is an example to the other children. Excellent Joe!
Year 5
Year 4 / 5 Football Team - For a brilliant performance in the Stoneacre Football Tournament. The children worked collaboratively and demonstrated determination, resilience and great sportmanship!!
Well done Mason, Joe, Henry, Freddie, Vinnie B, Adomas, Esme, Gracie-Leigh, Lily and Sophie.
Sophia - Sophia has shown remarkable progress in her overall confidence, particularly in new and unfamiliar situations, demonstrating a positive attitude towards challenges. She always exhibits a commendable work ethic, whether there are rewards involved or not. Sophia efficiently uses the resources at her disposal to complete tasks with a strong sense of independence and perseverance. Keep up the hard work Sophia!
Freddie - It is pleasing to observe Freddie's confidence growing; he is now handling situations that previously caused him some anxiety with much greater ease, a testament to his dedication and hard work. His efforts and determination are truly commendable, and it is evident that he is making significant strides in his personal and academic growth. Well done Freddie! Keep up the hard work!
Year 6
Last week in school, our focus was on one of our hugely important school rules: respect. We were looking for those children across school who demonstrate this on a daily basis - showing respect to all members of our school community, to our school building and to all resources within it. Last week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 were chosen with this in mind.
Annabelle - Annabelle is a polite and respectful member of the class who treats all adults and children with the respect that they deserve. She takes responsibility for ensuring that our classroom is a safe and tidy environment - often volunteering to tidy away resources and prepare equipment during her playtimes.
Jayden - Jayden is a polite, well-mannered and respectful member of the class who treats others the way that he would like to be treated. He always treats adults with respect, regardless of their role and familiarity with him, and he shows loyalty towards his friends.
This week in school, we have been focusing on one of our important school rules: work hard. Adults across school have been looking out for those children who have embodied this school rule this week, working hard in every lesson, and this week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Amelia - Amelia woks hard in every single lesson every day. She puts 100% effort into all she does to ensure that every piece of work is completed to the highest possible standard. Amelia is open to feedback on her learning and always acts upon advice from adults and her peers.
William - William has come back to school after half term with an increased determination to work hard and really show what he is capable of. He has put 100% effort into all lessons and produced some fantastic outcomes in subjects across the curriculum.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
My superstar award for this week goes to Jack in Year 6. The progress that Jack has made this term can only be described as phenomenal. His work ethic and attitude has improved significantly and he is now one of the children that can be relied on for answers and for being a positive role model across school. This only comes from hard work and he truly has put that in over the last few months and proves that whatever you put your mind to achieve you can with effort! Well done Jack – we are so proud of you!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Planned 'invacuation' Monday 17th June
On Monday, school will be involved in a planned ‘invacuation’ at school. As you will be aware the children regularly take part in evacuation procedures (fire drills) to ensure that they feel more confident about what would happen if there needed to be an evacuation out of school. The children are now brilliant at this and are confident in what does happen and how they can follow these procedures carefully and in the safest way possible. An invacuation would take place if the children needed to all be safely brought back in to school.
The 'invacuation’, part of our emergency procedures policy, works in exactly the same way but just the reverse. It will be explained to the children in assembly on Monday morning in this very same way. This will not be described as a lockdown. The children will return to their classroom and they will sit on the carpet (or their chairs) and it will not be a way to frighten or worry them about certain reasons for it happening. It will be clear that there may lots of reasons for that happening. Staff will know this as a CODE BLUE.
If you have any questions regarding this, please contact school via email to discuss with myself or the senior leadership team.
Class Photos
The class photos are now available to purchase on the Carmel Jane website. If you have pre-registered, you should have received an email from Carmel Jane with your unique access link. Big Talk Education Tuesday 18th June
To keep children as safe as possible Relationship Education is now statutory in all Primary Schools, we are engaging the support of the specialist organisation BigTalk Education, who are a Social Enterprise recognised by national lead bodies and Government. They will be coming into school on Tuesday 18th June to work with all the children across school.
They work with 3yr olds upwards and have been involved in delivering age-appropriate education of this type for over 20 years.
Below is some information on the Growing Up Safe programme that will be delivered to the Children.
* Age 3 (Nursery). A fun learning environment where the children are taught: the differences between boys and girls, naming body parts, correct scientific words, private areas of the body, good touches and bad touches.
- Ages 4 to 8 (Reception School Years 1, 2 & 3) Re-enforces and checks what was covered in Nursery. Using specially designed child friendly resources at the end of this session they will be able to identify happy situations within relationships, and those which may be risky (e.g., other children or adults taking improper photographs of them, inappropriate touches, exposure to unsuitable media etc.) Plus, whom they can talk to if they are worried.
- Ages 8 to 9 (School Year 4) We cover different kinds of families, similarities and differences between boys and girls, the emotional and physical changes of growing up (puberty) how babies are made, then develop in the womb etc. (reproduction). Also discussed is, how to look after our bodies and be safe and healthy.
- Ages 9 to 11 (School Years 5 & 6) Reproduction and puberty are re-capped, the children are given the opportunity to ask questions. As well as additional clarification on puberty, they will often want more details on how babies develop and are born. It is important that they know there is someone in school as well as at home if they want help, advice or more information etc. (Information at this stage is vital to protect them as they move onto Secondary School and to provide an alternative to Google etc.
All the resources BigTalk Education use are age appropriate and help keep children protected from unwanted touches, abuse, and exposure to unsuitable images etc.
Further information on the above can be found on: www.bigtalkeducation.co.uk/parents
The new video Parent presentations https://www.bigtalkeducation.co.uk/year-by-year/ are available to view and we circulated the password for these earlier this week via ParentPay.
In addition, “Bodies, Babies and Bellybuttons” is the BigTalk book which accompanies the Growing Up Safe programme. This is a great resource for parents and can be ordered online from www.bigtalkeducation.co.uk on our Resources page.
Should you require any further information BigTalk Education can be contacted on admin@bigtalkeducation.co.uk.

PTA Summer Fair Thursday 20th June
We were wondering if any of the Year 6 children would like to help at the Summer Fair next week? They would be helping on some of the stalls that the PTA have planned. If your child would like to help, could you please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk by next Tuesday at the latest please. We will also need to know whether your child will be collected at the end of the Summer Fair or whether they have permission to walk home themselves.
Non-uniform Day Friday 21st June
As part of our continued commitment to improving the mental health and wellbeing of the children in school, our pupil wellbeing ambassadors would like to create a wellness room that any child can access that promotes positive mental health and wellbeing.
They have some fantastic ideas and plans and are so enthusiastic. The ambassadors have been working hard thinking of different ways to raise money to fund this and would like to start by holding a non-uniform day next Friday 21st June.
The wellbeing ambassadors would like to ask for a voluntary contribution of whatever people can afford for participation in the non uniform day. All money raised will go towards the new wellbeing space.
Congratulations!
Reuben in Year 1 had his first official performance at his performing arts academy at the end of May. He performed in a few medleys but mostly Bugsy Malone. He spent over 12 hours of a Saturday at the theatre rehearsing and performing and, despite being absolutely exhausted at the end, he tried his hardest and did really well. Well done Reuben! We love to hear that you are really enjoying your performing arts. You did so well for your first performance and we are all really proud of you.
