Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
Uzayr has been chosen as star of the week this week in Nursery. He is always enthusiastic and keen to join in with all aspects of his learning. He has really enjoyed having the caterpillars in the classroom this week and has enjoyed contributing to our class Maths Story about the caterpillar who ate 4 of everything. He is also a great friend to younger members of the class and is kind and helpful towards them.
In Reception, Noah has been a super scientist this week observing the changes to our caterpillars, drawing these and making notes in our catapillar diary. He has shown fantastic knowledge of the life cycle of a butterfly using our new scientific vocabulary to explain this to other adults and children about how they adapt and change over their life cycle. It has been lovely to see Noah's enthusiasm and excitement for our topic which he has shared with everyone in the class and at home. Well done Noah 🙂
Sophia in Reception has been a brilliant explorer this week, she has been hunting for different minibeasts and investigating them using magnifying glasses and telescopes to see how they are all different from each other. Sophia has been observing our caterpillars inside and sharing their changes with her friends full of excitement and questions. Well done Sophia 🙂
Year 1
Louis T - Louis has been a wonderful scientist this week! He loved our STEMathon Day and took part in every activity with enthusiasm. He could talk about every activity and answered questions too. He has been trying very hard to listen carefully and to show respect during carpet time discussion. Well done, Louis!
Jasper - Jasper is our Scientist of the Term! He has a fabulous enquiring mind. He thinks carefully about the investigations, asks questions and talks about what he thinks will happen and why. Jasper loved our STEMathon Day- he didn't stop smiling all day!
Year 2
This week has been Science week and we have all enjoyed participating in lots of STEM activities. This week, lots of children have demonstrated some fantastic scientific thinking. It has been hard to choose just two budding scientists, but for demonstrating fantastic exploration skills, a determination to succeed, amazing resilience when things don't work straight away and brilliant collaboration with children from right across school, Year 2's Stars of Science Week are Emilia and George!
I would also like to give a special scientific shout out to our Science Ambassadors who support the development and delivery of our science curriculum throughout school. They truly are a wonderful group to work with. Thank you so much Max (Y6), Seth and Harry (Y5), Belle (Y4) and Tommy (Y3).
Year 3
Isaac S and Jagoda - I have given them both the science star of the week because during this week we have been able to take part in a couple of science live lessons and STEMathon day. These two children were asking enquiring questions to find out more, able to answer questions scientifically and showed a real enthusiasm towards their learning.
Year 4
Dylan - This week, Dylan has pushed himself in order to achieve to the best of his ability. During the STEMathon, he showed respect, patience and leadership when working with all children, enabling him to succeed. During writing, Dylan has listened carefully and impressed me with his knowledge of commas. Keep working hard and pushing yourself!
Lily E - Lily is a shining example of doing things the Mayflower Way. She consistently goes above and beyond in everything that she does. This week, during the STEMathon, Lily showed that she can work collaboratively as part of a group and had particular success with the marble run challenge. Lily is a pleasure to teach. Keep it up.
Year 5
This week in school, it has been science week. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 5 have been chosen with this in mind.
During our STEMathon these two children showed kindness towards others, demonstrated good leadership qualities and shared their knowledge and passion for science with children in their group. They worked cooperatively, shared their ideas and thoughtfully listened to what others had to say. Well done Tamara and Seth.
Year 6
We have celebrated Science Week across school this week, culminating in our fantastic STEMathon Day yesterday. The children across school from Year 1 to 6 were mixed into different groups, rotating around 4 different STEM activities. Our Year 6 children really stepped up, taking care of the younger children and supporting the staff to lead these activities. This week's Stars of the Week have been chosen with this in mind.
Henry and Elsie - I have spoken to different adults across school following our STEMathon day and they have all had nothing but amazing things to say about how you interacted with them and the younger children during these activities. You embodied our school rules at all times: showing respect to all members of school; interacting kindly and compassionately with our younger children; and working hard to complete all activities. You are both fantastic ambassadors for Year 6 and I am so proud that adults have gone out of their way to tell me how amazing you both were. Absolute superstars!
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
This week my superstar award goes to Blu-Belle for her amazing attitude to everything ‘Mayflower’. She has impressed Mrs Davies so much with her hard work and attitude to her learning. She was a shining example of the energy and zest described by the inspectors who live our school mission and values every single day. Well done, we are all so proud of you and your progress.
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Our visit from Ofsted
As you are aware, we were joined by Ofsted this week. Thank you to those parents/carers who sent in and passed on messages of support prior to the inspection starting, spoke to the inspectors in person and to those who completed the parent survey. The inspectors were delighted to meet our children and had nothing but praise for them - they said they were full of zest and energy, coupled with the upmost respect for the adults and their learning in school. We will share the report from Ofsted as soon as it is available.
Please remember that if you do have any worries or concerns about your child, their class teacher and/or Mrs Powell will always make time for you.

Tickets for our Easter chocolate raffle are now on sale in the classrooms and from the school office, priced at £1 per strip for 5 tickets. If you would like to donate any Easter eggs/chocolate etc, please bring your items to the school office.

Lots Of Socks Day Friday 21st March
On Friday 21st March, we would like the children to wear some socks that will get them noticed to help us to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. They might be mismatched socks or very bright socks - whatever you child would like to wear along with their normal school uniform.
Science Week
This week, Mrs Davies has really excelled herself with the activities for Science Week. Yesterday was our STEMathon in school. The children loved working in mixed-age groups to create gravity defying marble runs, build the tallest structure from straws, develop protective packaging to protect an egg from a 2m drop and made and tested rocket mice!
This afternoon we rounded off Science Week with our Kitchen Sink Science Fair. Thank you so much to those who were able to attend - we were overwhelmed with the amount of parents/carers who were able to make it. We hope everyone enjoyed it. We will share some photos of this next week.
A huge thanks to Mrs Davies for organising all the events this week.
Lunch Menu for week commencing 17th March 2025
Please see the new menu below for next week. All the new menus are now available to view on the 'News And Calendar' part of our website under 'School Lunch Menu'. Mrs Stanfield will continue to monitor the children's likes and dislikes and there may be changes to these menus in light of these.
There may also be last minute changes to the menus on occasion, to take into account availability of items or delivery issues.
