Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
Our star in Nursery this week is Ivy. Ivy has been trying really hard to show respect by sitting still and listening to her teachers and her friends. She has shown respect by looking after resources 'gently' and tidying up at tidy up time.
In Reception the star of the week goes to Luna for showing respect to Mrs Fuller and her friends. Luna always listens carefully to people when they talk to her, she always remembers to use her manners and she is a super tidier at tidy up time!
Year 1
Aaron - Aaron has had a brilliant week in school! He has been showing the staff a great deal of respect by listening carefully, following instructions, and working very hard. During our World Kindness Day assembly, Aaron had some fantastic ideas about how to be kind and he is putting this into practise by playing very nicely with all of the children in class. Keep being your incredible self, Aaron!
Lucy - this week is Anti-Bullying week so we chose somebody who is incredibly kind to every single person she ever meets! Lucy helps, plays and chats to everybody and especially looks out for those who are feeling upset or need help. She is an incredible role model in class for many things; but her example of how to be kind, shines out for everybody to follow. You are amazing, Lucy!
Year 2
Year 2's Stars of the Week this week are Connor and Patrick.
They aren't just kind for World Kindness Day; they are kind all the time. They always go out of their way to smile and say ‘thank you’, help a friend put on their coat; play a game with someone who is on their own; pick up the equipment in the playground; cheer up a friend that is sad/upset; offer a helping hand to a partner who is stuck; and tell someone a joke to make them laugh.
Well done for being so kind every day, Patrick and Connor!
Year 3
Olive - Olive is always respectful to staff and children. She comes to school everyday ready to learn and always works hard. She is kind and understands the importance of listening to and empathising with how others are feeling.
Jacob - Jacob is polite and respectful at all times. He goes above and beyond to be respectful when talking to adults and peers. He listens to others and can show high levels of empathy. He is determined and works hard in all lessons.
Year 4
This week, Mrs Wood has chosen her two stars of the week and Mrs Miller wanted to also recognise two other children in the class who have been superstars.
James - James has shown this week what a kind and well mannered member of the class he is. He has spoken politely to both his peers and adults. James has been an excellent example of how to show respect to all of those around you.
Evelyn - Evelyn has worked incredibly hard this week, helping others and completing her work to the best of her ability. She has demonstrated how to be respectful in her words and actions and is a role model to others in class.
Kiera & Thomas - for always being kind to their peers. Kiera and Thomas are always respectful in class and show all the attributes of being excellent learners. Well done to you both!
Year 5
Elizabeth - Elizabeth is kind and respectful to everyone all of the time and as a result of this, she is a valued member of Year 5. She always treats others the way she would like to be treated and shows tolerance to other people. This week Elizabeth has demonstrated kindness by being a good friend; she has shown care and concern for those around her and has supported them to help them to feel better. Keep being you!
Darcy - Darcy is a valued member of Year 5 who acts with kindness and respect all of the time. She is invariably kind and is sensitive to the feelings of others. She is a good friend to all. She completes random acts of kindness all the time - from helping others with their work, to offering to do jobs and tidying resources away. Well done Darcy! Keep it up!
Year 6
This week has been national Anti-bullying week and we have been looking for those children across school who choose to always be kind and always be respectful. We are fortunate at Bawtry Mayflower to have many children who epitomise these values and this week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Vinnie - Vinnie is a kind, compassionate and considerate member of Year 6 who is always thinking of others and putting their needs above his own. He likes to see the people that he cares about happy, whether this be his friends, his family or members of the wider school community. Vinnie's kindness and respect never wavers and he is an excellent role model to all. Thank you for being you, Vinnie.
Bella - Bella is a kind, compassionate and considerate member of Year 6 who always has a smile on her face. She is respectful to others at all times - this includes her friends, peers in class, younger children in school and all members of staff. She celebrates in the success of others and acts with kindness at all times. Thank you for the care and compassion that you show, Bella, and thank you for being you.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
Imagine a world where respect and kindness thrives - it's not just a dream, it's in the choices we make. So my superstar award this week goes to Ariana in Year 5 who constantly strives for this in school every day. She voices passion around how others should be treated and leads by example. Well done Ariana!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Anti-Bullying Week
From playground to parliament, our homes to our phones, our Anti-Bullying Week theme this year was let's 'Choose Respect' and focussed on bringing an end to bullying which negatively impacts millions of young lives. We focussed on empowering each other and not resort to bullying, even when we disagree and reminding adults to lead by example, online and offline.
Meet our Head & Deputy Boys & Girls
Last week, we held elections for our Head and Deputy boys and girls. Congratulations to all the children who took part - we wish we could have chosen everyone as each person would have brought something special and unique to the role. Now that the votes have been counted and checked, we are pleased to announce the results as follows:
Head Boy - Cohen
Head Girl - Rose W
Deputy Head Boy - Laroti
Deputy Head Girl - Elodie
We asked Cohen, Rose, Laroti and Elodie to share with us some thoughts about their new and very important roles.
Cohen - I want everyone to have a chance to be heard and to make school a better place.
Rose - I want to help school to be the best place and to welcome people to Mayflower.
Laroti - I want to help people and make sure that everyone feels respected.
Elodie - I want to help and support people in different ways.
Rose and Elodie told us they felt excited and nervous at the same time about making their speeches in front of their class and then the whole school. Laroti said he also felt nervous and said his legs were shaking!
All 4 children hoped their roles would mean they could be involved in some of the bigger school decisions with Mrs Powell and speak on behalf of all the children. They would like to talk to visitors and welcome them in to school. They all would like to make speeches at events we hold in school and perhaps help staff to organise assemblies.
The possibilities for what their role can entail are endless. What we know about Cohen, Rose, Laroti and Elodie is that they always put 100% into everything they do and will definitely rise to this new challenge with determination and enthusiasm.
Christmas Design Project
We have received confirmation from Xmas4Schools that the Christmas Design project orders have now been dispatched and should be with us at the beginning of next week. We will send an email the day before the items go home with the children, to let you know they are on their way home to you.
Christmas Shoebox Appeal
A huge thank you from the McArthur family, who suggested us taking part in the Christmas Shoebox Appeal and collected the wrapped shoeboxes last week. This initiative proved very popular, so it will be something that we will continue to support going forward and we will look at how we can do this collectively next year.
Bag2School Clothing Collection
Thank you to everyone who donated to the Bag2School clothing collection this week. This raised £38 which our PTA will add to their funds to provide additional experiences and events for our children.
Year 1 Tuck Shop every Tuesday in November
Don't forget that Year 1 are holding a tuck shop on the lower playground after school every Tuesday during November. This is to raise funds to go towards their visit to Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery in December. Year 1 would really appreciate it if you could spare a few moments to visit the tuck shop to support them.
Christmas Dinner and Party Food
We will be having our Christmas Dinner this year on Wednesday 18th December and will be having party food for lunch on Friday 20th December. If your child normally has a school dinner, there is nothing for you to do - they will receive these meals instead of what would normally be served on that particular weeks menu.
If your child normally brings a packed lunch to school and would like to have a Christmas Dinner and/or party food on the dates above, an email was sent out earlier this week to those with children on packed lunches. The email contained 2 links to some Google forms for parents/carers to let us know that their child would like one or both of these meals.
The deadline to complete the Google forms is next Wednesday, 20th November. We cannot accept any late requests for these meals due to Mrs Stanfield, our cook, having to place her order well in advance.
If you do not wish your child to take part, please do not complete the forms. Your child will then just need to bring their packed lunch each day as normal.
Can you help?
Do you have any old cushions at home that you no longer use? If so, we would really appreciate it if you could donate them to school for our reading area please. If you do have any to donate, please bring them to the school office.
Year 3/4 PTA Film Night Thursday 28th November

If you would like your child to take part, please return their completed slip and £3 entry fee to your child's teacher by no later than Monday 25th November.

NO LATE REPLY SLIPS CAN BE ACCEPTED
Year 5 visit to Lincoln Castle
On Monday, our Year 5 children went on their visit to Lincoln Castle.
The Victorian Prison, within the grounds of Lincoln Castle, gave us the perfect back drop for our topic on Crime and Punishment. On our trip, we discovered how the separate system worked and how crime and punishment has changed over time. We took part in lots of different workshops, including, the ‘Prison Escape’ treasure hunt game. Through this game we were able to learn all about the lives of real prisoners’. We also took a tour of the prison and airing yard, discovered the unique chapel and did the jobs that Victorian prisoners would have done (in costume!). The highlight of the day was taking the crime and punishment focused tour of the castle walls and seeing where the hangings actually took place. We had a great day!!
Congratulations!
Evie in Year 4 took part in the Young Performers showcase in London with her dance school recently and was lucky enough to perform at the O2 Arena! Evie danced beautifully and loved every minute! What a fantastic opportunity Evie. We know how much you love dancing, so to get to perform at somewhere like the O2 Arena must have felt so special and magical. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Thank You Mrs Stanfield!
We hope that parents/carers enjoyed the delicious food that was on offer at parents evening this week. Once again, Mrs Stanfield went above and beyond preparing and serving the meals and desserts. We have had some lovely feedback and Mrs Stanfield was thrilled with the feedback she received personally at parents evening.
Today, to celebrate Children in Need, Mrs Stanfield made some Pudsey biscuits for the children. As always, the children were delighted and thoroughly enjoyed their little Friday treat. Thank you Mrs Stanfield!
