Attendance
Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week Mrs Birkinshaw/Mrs Ward's class had the highest attendance with 99.44% - well done Year 1!
Unfortunately, the incorrect information was provided in assembly, so Year 6 celebrated having the highest attendance for this week when it was actually Year 1 who were the champions this week (although Year 6 do have the highest attendance for this school year so far, which is where the original information came from!). We are so sorry Year 1 - we will make sure this doesn't happen again and will celebrate your achievement next week!
Please see below for the attendance figures for this week. The target attendance for all children is currently set at 97%.
Nursery - 91.25%
Reception - 97.74%
Year 1 Mrs Birkinshaw & Mrs Ward - 99.44%
Year 2 Mrs Davies - 97.31%
Year 3 Mrs Parkes & Mrs Ronan - 96.77%
Year 4 Mrs Wood & Mrs Walker - 97.94%
Year 5 Mrs Pickersgill - 98.29%
Year 6 Miss Dunn - 96.76%
Celebrating fantastic attendance!
Each week, each class with 100% attendance on a particular day will receive one letter from the word MAYFLOWER to put on their classroom door. Once a class has spelt out the word MAYFLOWER, a member of the class will bring all their letters down to the office to claim their prize from our box of Awesome Attendance Activities!
Please see below where each class stands at the end of today:
Nursery - M A Y F L O W E R M A Y F L O

This week, Year 1 completed MAYFLOWER for the 4th time! Wow, Year 1 you really are attendance champions! Your enthusiasm when you come to collect your letters is also infectious and an absolute joy, so thank you for putting so much effort into your celebrations too! Year 1 will be choosing their reward to enjoy next week.
Year 4 completed MAYFLOWER for the 2nd time this week and chose their reward of a movie and some biscuits to enjoy this afternoon.
Year 2 are very very close to completing MAYFLOWER for the 4th time, so we are really hopeful that they will receive their 4th reward next week. Come on Year 2 - you can do it!
Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
Wynter in Nursery - Wynter has been really considerate and caring to one of the Reception children this week. She has shown a lot of kindness, patience and understanding when she has been turn taking and sharing with them.
Our star this week in Reception is Conell, he has shared some fantastic ideas when predicting what will happen in our new class text this week. Conell has also tried really hard to participate in all our class and group discussions throughout the week. Conell has completed his work this week with enthusiasm and a can do attitude, he has been proud of what he has achieved. Well done Conell 🙂
Year 1
Oakley - Oakley has been trying really hard with his work this week. This is really the Mayflower way! He has been concentrating very carefully in D&T and impressed us all with his cutting skills. He has been trying very hard in phonics and maths too. We are very proud of you Oakley. Keep up the good work!
Aliza-Mae - Aliza-Mae is a shining example of the Mayflower way! She is always ready to learn, she listens carefully and she shows a great deal of respect to the adults during lessons. She has been working hard in maths this week and really impressing me with her knowledge of 2D shapes and repeating patterns! Well done, Aliza.
Year 2
We are so proud of the children in Year 2. They really embody "The Mayflower Way". The two children who have been chosen to receive our Stars of The Week this week try their very best to always be kind to others, are respectful to everyone they meet, and always try their best with their work (even when they find it difficult). They are also great role models to others - and make us smile every day!
Congratulations Thomas M and Lais!
Year 3
Since starting back at school after Christmas, Year 3 have been working really hard on their handwriting and presentation. They have been focusing on making sure that their presentation is consistent in all of their work.
My stars of the week this week go to Jagoda and Ella for consistently using their neatest handwriting in all of their work. They have taken responsibility for their own learning, ensuring that all work produced is to the same high standard. Both of these girls have shown dedication and resilience and I am really proud of them! They are the first two children in Year 3 to receive their pen licence.
Year 4
Mason - Mason has inspired the rest of the class by being responsible and taking ownership of his own learning with the multiplication tables. In less than a week, his hard work and determination have shown incredible progress! Keep this up Mason!
Maddie D - Maddie has been so helpful this week! She has taken responsibility for resources in the classroom and the library and organised them carefully. She is always polite when asking for something or offering her help. Well done Maddie!
Year 5
Ariana understands that hard work leads to success; she is beginning to take responsibility for her own learning by independently reviewing her work and identifying what she has done well and what her next steps are. She confidently tells someone if she has problems doing her work and always listens to feedback which will take her learning further. Well done Ariana! Keep up the hard work!
Shawn was new to our school this week and what a fantastic addition he has been. He is polite and well-mannered and has already made lots of new friends. He is already doing things 'The Mayflower Way' and demonstrates this on a daily basis by working hard and being respectful to both staff and peers. Well done Shawn! Welcome to Bawtry Mayflower!
Year 6
This week in school, our focus has been on our important learning powers and on doing things 'The Mayflower Way'. Adults across school have been looking out for those children, in particular, who are displaying our learning powers: being collaborative; being responsible; being determined and being courageous. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Ava L - Ava shows commitment and dedication to her learning through all areas of the curriculum. She is open to feedback, seeing this as an opportunity to learn more and to improve. Ava listens to feedback given by adults and her peers and always acts upon it, whilst striving for improvement. She has shown dedication to her learning by attending additional tutoring sessions in maths and gives every lesson her full attention and focus. Ava, you are a star.
George - George is a determined learner who never gives up. He puts 100% effort into every single lesson and always produces work to the highest standard across all areas of the curriculum. He is collaborative in lessons, working well with others to offer support and challenge, whilst seeking and accepting the support from others when he needs it. George, you are a star.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
The theme this week was linked to our learning power – be responsible. We talk about doing all we do in school in the Mayflower Way. Be kind, and be responsible for the actions we choose. This week’s Superstar Award goes to Jack R in Year 6. He has really shone in doing this, in and out of the classroom. His quiet, positive attitude shines out in all he does in school and the maturity in his choices, including supporting others in being responsible is commendable. Well done!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Change of PE days next week only
Just for next week, Year 2 will be having PE on Thursday instead of Friday and Year 3 will be having PE on Friday instead of Thursday. This is due to the visits/workshops that those classes have next week.
Messages via the school office
Could we please ask that if you have a message to be passed on to your child's class teacher for that particular day, for example if someone different will be collecting your child, that you ring the school office rather than sending an email please. We provide a timescale of up to 48 hours to read and provide an initial response to any emails received. Whilst we do endeavour to provide a response well within that timescale, it is not always possible to read emails on the day they are sent. A phone call will ensure that your message is passed on in a timely manner.
Prostrike Fundraising Event
As previously advertised in our Diary Dates section on our website, Prostrike will be coming in to school on Wednesday 5th February to host a sponsored event. The Prostrike team will bring with them their giant inflatable football goals and speed radar systems. Every pupil takes three shots striking the ball as hard as they can into the goal, trying to achieve the highest speed possible.
This is a sponsored event and the children should have brought home a sponsor form today. A letter has also been emailed to parents/carers this afternoon which provides some more details. The more money the children raise, the more prizes they win. School will also receive 50% of the total sponsorship money raised.
Solihull Parenting Programme
We are pleased to offer our parents a free 10 week parenting programme – Understanding Your Child – in conjunction with the Solihull Approach series.
The course will provide an insight into your child’s behaviour and will provide support and skills to enable more effective communication with your child.
As part of the course we will explore:
- Tuning into children
- Exploring feelings
- Parenting styles
- Communication
- Temper tantrums
- Sleep patterns
- Behavioural difficulties
This will take place in school every Thursday afternoon 1pm – 3pm, starting 27th February 2025 until 15th May 2025 (the course will not run during the school holidays).
Refreshments will be available.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
To book your place or ask for more information please contact Mrs Westerman – Family Manager – via the school office.
Please note the course is for adults only and no child care for younger children will be available.
Appeal for resources
Foundation Stage staff recently attended some Early Years Maths training. There were some great ideas, especially for outside. To help us deliver some of these activities we are appealing for some resources that you may have laying around home that you are no longer using. We are looking for trellis (preferably squared), logs/log slices, dowling, off cuts of wood. For the safety of the children it is important that these are free of sharp nails/screws and splinters. Thank you in advance for your help and support.
Asda Clothing Range
We thought it would be useful to let parents/carers know about a range of clothing that is stocked in Asda. The clothing range has velcro instead of buttons and there are less seams on the items, which could be particularly helpful for those children who have sensory needs.
Congratulations!
Well done to Max from Year 2 who has recently been awarded his Stage 9 certificate in his swimming lessons! Congratulations Max - your determination has paid off and we know you are super proud to receive this certificate.
Holiday Club at Bawtry Mayflower
Please see below for details of how to book your child onto First Step Active Care's February half term holiday club. If you have any questions regarding the club, please contact First Step Active Care directly.
Lunch Menu for week commencing 20th January 2025
Please see the menu below for next week. There may need to be last minute changes to the menus on occasion, to take into account availability of items or delivery issues.
Mrs Stanfield's mixer is currently broken, which means that there may be a few changes to the menu over the coming weeks to make things slightly easier for her until she receives a replacement. She will always try to stick to the advertised menus as much as possible and whatever she makes is absolutely delicious! She always knows what the children enjoy so will try to cater accordingly in this interim period until she receives a new mixer.
