Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.

Nursery & Reception

Florence in Nursery for always doing super listening and trying her best to do what is asked of her. She has shown improved confidence in the classroom. Florence has made really good progress in phonics and is a super star for Mrs Agus.

Louie in Reception for improved handwriting. Louie has worked really hard to form his letters correctly and be proud of what he has done. He is also getting a bit quicker with his writing, which is great to see. Well done Louie!

Year 1

George showed great resilience this week in Science.  He was finding some of the work really tricky and the easiest choice to make, when things aren't easy, is to give up.  George didn't do that but instead he worked hard to make sure that he produced his best work.

Matthew has worked with resilience this week.  At the start of the week, he was unwell and even when he came back we could tell that he still wasn't 100%.  However, he showed real resilience, especially in his writing, where he wrote some fantastic sentences and worked incredibly hard.

Year 2

Maddison E - for showing resilience by never giving up, even when she finds things difficult. She quietly puts in lots of effort and is really beginning to have confidence in herself and her abilities - something which has been magical to see. Well done, Maddison!

Laroti - for showing resilience by walking into school with a positive attitude everyday. Even when he is feeling a little sad, he puts 100% into his work, gives love and kindness to his friends and treats everyone with the upmost respect. He truly is a wonderful person. We are very proud of you, Laroti.

Year 3

Olivia Rose - Olivia has been very resilient this week. She has had a great attitude to learning, she has tried her best in everything she has done. Not everything has come easy to Olivia this week but she has given everything a go and been determined to do her best and succeed.

Mae - Mae has stood out this week for giving everything a really good go, even things that have challenged her. She has had a great attitude to learning and has not given up in anything. She has grown in confidence and is now coming up to the front of class and demonstrating her knowledge on the board to the class.

Year 4

Oliver B - Oliver has shown how resilient he is this week when he has been improving his work. He looked carefully for ways to improve his writing to ensure that his work is the best it can be.

Frankie - Frankie has shown how resilient he is this week when he has been improving his work. He has hunted for ways to improve his writing and corrected his work so that all of his work is of a high standard.

Year 5

Brandon - Brandon is trying much harder to complete his work independently, which is great to see. He is much more focused on tasks and is able to manage distractions well. Brandon demonstrates increasing confidence in new and unfamiliar situations and faces challenges with a positive attitude. He is developing his resilience and understands that he can learn from his mistakes. Well done Brandon, keep up the hard work!

Adomas - Adomas is able to use the resources he has been given to complete tasks with independence and confidence showing great perseverance. He enthusiastically embraces new learning experiences and relishes a challenge. Adomas is not deterred by setbacks and learns lessons from his mistakes.  Adomas understands that hard work leads to success; he has a positive attitude towards learning and believes that he can achieve anything he puts his mind to. Keep up the hard work Adomas.

Year 6

The focus across school this week has been on resilience; we have been looking for those children across school who show a resilient attitude towards all they do. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind and they are as follows:

Caitlyn, Skyla, Jayden, Aria, Seb, Noah, Annabelle, Leo, Brione, William, Ella, Jack, Carson, Faith, Evelyn, Scarlett, Henry, Charlie, Amelia, Layla, Joey and Alfie.

On a week where the focus has been on resilience, it would have been impossible to choose two. You have worked so hard up to this point and have given your all this week, as I knew you would. The resilience, determination and maturity with which you have approached this week has made me proud beyond words and you have done all this with smiles on your faces. Bring on the rest of summer term!

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.

My superstar award this week goes to Lily in Year 5. A true superstar in helping and supporting those around them when they are finding things tough. She helps them to not give up and will offer her help in all situations. She always asks others how they are and has a quiet kindness and empathy which does not go unnoticed by staff. Well done Lily – you really deserve this award.

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign that the children will be learning next week.

Consultation on change to timings of school day

Dear Families,

After the period of consultation, I write to confirm, that effective from 1st September 2024, the timings of the school day at Bawtry Mayflower Primary School will be as follows:

Session

Time

Doors open

8:35am

Nursery morning session

8.40am-11.40am

Reception-Yr6 morning session

8.40am-12pm

Lunch

12pm– 1pm

Afternoon session

1pm-3.10pm

All pupils will experience a 32.5 hour week. The additional 10 minutes per day will be added to the end of the day and extend the afternoon session. This will allow for a sensory movement break in the afternoon, but allowing enough time for curriculum coverage too. Dinnertime will be adjusted to 12pm for all children instead of a staggered separate session for KS1 and KS2. Doors will be open from 8.35am to allow children to be dropped at either building and allow the short walk to other classes for a start of register of 8.40am.

I also take this opportunity to thank all parents/carers who participated in the recent consultation on this matter. There were no challenges or objections to these proposed changes.

With very kind regards,

Mrs Powell

Well done Year 6!

We have reached the end of SATs week for KS2 and I wanted to personally thank you all for giving your absolute best throughout this week. During the whole week, you have worked so hard and used all the strategies and skills you have been taught which was so amazing to see!

A wise teacher told me once that these tests are just like training as a professional athlete. We have no control over the outcome on the day really, however all the hard work and preparation is done before which it really has been. The Year 6 team, and all the staff who have helped you on this learning journey, had done exactly that. You were so ready and whatever the outcome you really did give 100% with the most wonderful positive attitude.

Today has been a more relaxed day for our Year 6 children and at lunchtime they took on the staff in a game of rounders. We are not sure who was more competitive (it was a very close call!!) but what we do know is that everyone had so much fun!

PTA Tuck Shop & Summer Fair token sales

Next Thursday and Friday after school, members of our PTA will be on the lower playground selling tokens for the summer fair. They will also be selling tuck shop items (pop, sweets etc) and, weather permitting, will also have some ice creams for sale.

Please support our PTA if you are able to - all money raised from the PTA events goes towards providing additional activities/visits for our children that would otherwise not be able to take place.

Recognition Board Success

Congratulations to the children below who have received their Recognition badges from Mrs Powell recently. They all got their names under all 3 categories on the Recognition board - Work Hard, Be Kind and Be Respectful. Well done everyone!

If your child has been awarded with their Recognition Badge recently and hasn't yet appeared on one of our Friday blogs, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and we will make sure we celebrate their success on one of our future blogs.

Lunch Menu for week commencing 20th May 2024

Please see the menu below for next week. There may need to be last minute changes to the menus on occasion, to take into account availability of items or delivery issues.

As the new menus are now in place, Mrs Stanfield our school cook has monitored which meals the children enjoy and which aren't so popular. As a result, she has made adjustments to this week's menu.
