Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.

Nursery & Reception

The children this week are:

In Nursery, Isaac for working really hard to learn his sounds in Read, Write, Inc. He listens well, and tries his best each day. He is also trying really hard to write them as well. He is doing a super job!

In Reception, Cole for learning his lines for the Nativity performance and saying them clearly and confidently in our rehearsals.

Year 1

Mia – This week our focus has been to put others first and Mia is a true role model at this. Mia has been super helpful and kind in making sure she can help her peers in and out of the class. Mia helped her peers come up with wonderful ideas, as they transformed into fantastic actors to retell our class story book that we performed for ‘No Pen Day’. Keep up the good work, Mia!

Patrick – It is wonderful to have such a caring and considerate pupil like Patrick at Bawtry Mayflower. Patrick is always putting others first and making sure he is helping his peers when he is able to. Patrick contributes to looking after our classroom and making sure it is safe by tucking in chairs and that our provision areas are ready to learn in again. Thank you Patrick for being so kind and helpful, keep up the good work!

Year 2

Florence D - for always putting others first. She is kind and caring to others, always including them in her games, encouraging them to join in, supporting them in their learning and even helping others to cut up their food at lunchtime before she eats herself.

Oscar S - for supporting others during paired activities, helping people to finish their work and always including others in his games. It is a joy to have someone with such a caring and inclusive nature in the class. He truly does put others first!

Year 3

Penny - Penny has had a brilliant week this week , she has tried really hard with her work and taken pride in everything she does. Penny always goes above and beyond to help staff and peers and will always ask if we need anything doing around the classroom. She is a pleasure to have in class.

Archie - Archie has tried really hard this week with his work and making the right choices. He has made a really conscious effort this week to be the best he can be in everything he does. He has been polite and respectful to his peers and made sure that he is being kind and a good friend to all. Well done Archie!

Year 4

Oliver S-C - Oliver shows his kind and caring nature every day in class. He is excellent at sharing equipment, waits patiently for his turn and always checks that others are ok.

Frankie - Frankie is a friendly and caring member of our class who looks out for children who need a friend. He includes anybody and everybody in the games he plays and the children appreciate this. Well done Frankie!

Year 5

Brandon - Brandon is respectful of other people's thoughts and opinions and always listens to and takes on board what others have to say. He thinks less about himself, and more about others — he is generous and kind. A fantastic role model for his peers.

Alicia - Alicia is a kind and thoughtful child. She shows compassion and empathy towards others each and every day, always putting others before herself. She is an aboslute pleasure to teach.

Year 6

This week in school, we have been focussing on those children who put others first, putting the needs of other people before their own. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.

Layla - Layla is a selfless, kind and considerate member of Year 6 who always thinks about the feelings of others and ensures that she acts in ways that will have a positive impact on her peers. Her behaviour in all lessons is exemplary and this enables others to concentrate on their learning. She is a good friend to all members of the class and treats her peers with respect and compassion at all times.

Henry - Henry is a kind and caring member of the class who shows a good understanding of the feelings of others. He recognises when other people may not be feeling as happy as they usually do and he does what he can to cheer them up, either by making them laugh or by offering to help. Henry is a loyal and supportive friend and he treats his friends the way he would like to be treated.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week’s superstar award goes to Ella in Year 2 for her wonderful attitude towards putting others first. She is caring and considerate to all in her class, but also with all the adults too. She helps in the dinner hall and at playtime too.

Well done Ella for being kind and caring to everyone in our school.

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign that the children will be learning next week.

Workshop Wednesday 6th December 3.15pm

There will be a short workshop on Wednesday 6th December at 3.15pm available for all parents/families to attend to raise awareness around a neurological condition called PANDAs. This can be triggered after a strep infection and we are working closely with a family in school who have recently dealt (amazingly) with this diagnosis and would like to raise the awareness of this to others. So, if you would like to join staff for the workshop, please come to the office for 3.10pm that day.

Parent Governor Vacancy - vote required

Your child (the youngest of the siblings if you have more than one child at Bawtry Mayflower) should have brought home some paperwork this week regarding our current Parent Governor vacancy on our Governing Body. As there were two applications for this vacancy, we will need to hold a ballot.

The paperwork your child should have brought home is as follows:

1 letter informing parents of the Governor vote
1 sheet with election statements on
2 ballot papers
2 small envelopes
2 larger envelopes

Please follow the instructions on the letter carefully regarding returning your ballot (to ensure confidentiality).

The deadline for completed ballot papers to be returned to school is 3pm on Friday 15th December at the very latest please.

Keeping warm and safe

Please see the information below for some hints and tips we have received about keeping warm and safe during this cold weather.

Year 1&2 - PE kits next week

Could our Year 1 & Year 2 children please bring their PE kits with them on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week please so those that need to can wear them for the nativity dress rehearsal/performances.

Christmas Cards

Our Christmas card postbox is now in the main entrance to school. If your child would like to post their Christmas cards in the postbox, could you please ensure that each child's name and year group are on each envelope. If the cards are all for one year group, it would be really helpful if they could have an elastic band around them or be placed in a sandwich bag please. We willl aim to deliver all cards to class within 2 days of them being posted.

If your child would like to be a helper to deliver the cards, please ask them them to speak to their class teacher on Monday.

Here is Noah from Year 3 posting his Christmas cards to his friends. Well done Noah, you are very organised this year!

Year 5/6 PTA Social Thursday 7th December

Don't forget that our Year 5 & Year 6 PTA Social takes place next Thursday 7th December from 3pm to 3.45pm. If you would like your child to attend this PTA event and haven't yet returned their slip and payment, please make sure they bring their reply slip together with £3 to hand in to their class teacher on Monday please.

After School Clubs

The deadline for sending in slips for the next set of after school clubs which start after Christmas has now passed. We will notify parents/carers during week commencing 11th December as to whether their child has secured a place on their chosen club(s) or not. For those who secure places on clubs, payment will  be required on ParentPay by 7th January 2024 please.

Peace Chains

There is still time for your child to decorate their own individual part of a peace chain (which was sent out a couple of weeks ago) should they wish to and then return it to school by next Wednesday 6th December. You can either cut the peace chain out and return just that or return the whole sheet and we will sort it from there. We would then like to join all the different parts of the peace chain together and display this in school for the last couple of weeks leading up to Christmas. We can’t wait to see what designs the children use!

Christmas Jumper Day Thursday 7th December

Next Thursday, 7th December is our Christmas Jumper Day. We would like the children to wear their Christmas jumper (or non-uniform if they don't have a Christmas jumper - please don't go and purchase one specially for this event) so that we can really start to get into the festive spirit.

We would like the children to bring donations of chocolate goodies on the day to go towards our Christmas Raffle (please see below). Please don't worry if you are not able to contribute at this time - we appreciate that things are difficult at the moment and there is no pressure at all to donate anything. All the children can still come in their Christmas jumpers/non-uniform regardless of whether a donation is provided or not.

Christmas Raffle

Last year's Christmas raffle proved so popular that we have decided to have another one this year. We would like to ask for donations of chocolate goodies to be brought into school on Thursday 7th December, which is our Christmas Jumper Day.

Raffle tickets will be on sale from Monday 4th December, priced at £1 per strip of 5 tickets. Tickets will be available in each class and also from the school office before and after school each day (with the exception of a Tuesday afternoon, when the school office is closed).

Tickets will also be on sale at all the nativity performances if you would like to purchase some at these events.

Good luck everyone!

Scholastic Half Price Book Fair

Scholastic Book Fair will be bringing their half price fair to our school next week. These books are really lovely quality and the half price sale is ideal for those wanting to purchase some extra gifts. The book fair will take place in the lower building straight after school on the following dates:

Tuesday 5th December

Wednesday 6th December

Thursday 7th December

Payment will be cash only each day.

Every book sold at the book fair helps to earn free books for our school.

Tea and Talk 6th December

We would like to invite all parents / carers to our drop-in tea/coffee morning next Wednesday, 6th December from 8.45am to 9.45am.

This will be a great chance to meet our Family Manager Mrs Westerman, our SENCo Mrs Wood, our CAMHS ‘With Me In Mind’ advisors, school nursing team, and a member of our locality Your Place team to discuss any worries you may have about your child’s or your well-being or any advice and support around family/home life.

Christmas Church Service Wednesday 20th December

On Wednesday 20th October, the children from Year 1 to Year 6 will be walking to St Nicholas' church for our annual Christmas Service. We will be setting off straight after morning registration (approx 9.15am). If you would like to walk there and back to church with us to enjoy the Christmas Service, please let your child's teacher know as soon as possible.

Upcoming PTA Events

Our wonderful PTA members and helpers have been busy behind the scenes planning some lovely Christmas events for our children. Please see the posters below for dates etc. Letters will be sent home (if applicable) a couple of weeks before each event.

We are only able to have events like these thanks to those who help to organise and run these events. If you would like to give some time to help with any of the PTA's upcoming projects, please send Kirsty (PTA Chair) a message on 07787 570844.
