Celebrating fantastic attendance!

This term, we want to continue to celebrate our children's fantastic attendance. As you are aware, each class with 100% attendance on a particular day will receive one letter from the word MAYFLOWER to put on their classroom door. Once a class has spelt out the word MAYFLOWER, a member of the class will bring all their letters down to the office to claim their prize from our box of Awesome Attendance Activities!

This week, the classes have sped along with getting their letters! Please see below where each class stands at the end of today:

Nursery - M A Y F L O W E R

Reception - M A Y F L O W E R     M

Year 1 - M A Y F L O W E R

This week, Year 2 enjoyed their prize of a movie and popcorn. It smelt like a cinema in their classroom!

Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 have also collected their prizes this week. Nursery, Reception and Year 6 chose bingo/games and hot chocolate and Year 1 chose a movie and popcorn. They will enjoy their treats next week. Well done!

We are very confident that we will be handing out more prizes next week. The children are really enjoying this attendance incentive.

Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.

Nursery & Reception

This week our stars are,

Kingsley in Nursery for showing more independence skills and joining in with more group activities. He loves joining in with singing and music on the carpet!

Reggie in Reception for demonstrating good knowledge and being able to share what he knows with other people in his class.

Year 1

Our school focus this week has been on being collaborative and in Year 1 our Stars have been;

Seren: Seren is a true role model at being a collaborative team member in our Year 1 class and across the school. Seren will always make sure that she is working co-operatively in pairs or groups and, most importantly, making sure everyone feels included. Seren will always help those around her and prompt them to follow our school rules. Well done, Seren and keep up the good work!

Colby: Has had a wonderful week of collaborative learning in Year 1! Colby has made a conscious effort to join in group discussions and the provisional activities throughout the week. Well done for becoming more confident in group work tasks and being more involved. Keep up the good work.

Year 2

Jagoda and Oscar M - I could give these two children Star of the Week every week because they embody our school values and ALWAYS follow our school rules. They are model pupils. However, when it come to collaboration, they really are superstars. They support all members of the class to complete tasks, achieve and do their best in a kind and caring way. Well done Jagoda and Oscar - I am so proud to have you in Year 2!

Year 3

Evelyn - Evelyn has been a great friend and role model this week to her peers, she has gone above and beyond to work collaboratively with her peers. Within lessons Evelyn has been a great partner and demonstrated kindness and teamwork throughout.

Logan - Logan has grown in confidence this week and has been working well with peers and within groups. Logan has been heavily involved within group work, offering answers and supporting peers within the group. Well done Logan.

Year 4

Frankie - Frankie has worked incredibly hard this week. He has been an excellent partner and supported other children in class. He has shared his ideas with other children and helped them with their work. Frankie's effort and attitude this week have been excellent!

Joe - Joe is a quiet member of our class who works hard and is a superb partner. He supports his peers and helps them when they need reminders or ideas and he always does this willingly.  Joe has stood out this week for his work, his attitude and his kindness.

Year 5

Henry - in a paired or group activity Henry always works sensibly with members of the class; he works cooperatively, shares his ideas and thoughtfully listens to what others say. He always celebrates the achievements of others and supports his peers on their learning journeys. He is kind and caring and is sensitive to the feelings of others. Well done Henry, keep it up!

Rose - Rose will work with others when asked, she is always kind and sensitive and knows that some people may think differently to herself.  Rose works well with others and can change her behaviour to suit different roles and situations. She is able to give constructive support to others and celebrates the achievements of her peers. Well done Rose, keep it up!

Year 6

This week in school, our focus has been on one of our important Learning Powers: Be Collaborative. We have been looking for those children across school who can collaborate with others in their lessons and during play. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.

Henry - Henry has shown great skills of collaboration this week when working with others in lessons. He works well with different peers in the class; he makes sure that he listens to the views and opinions of others, whilst ensuring that he offers his own ideas and completes his fair share of the work. Henry has shown good focus and concentration in all lessons this week. This has been fantastic to see Henry - keep it up!

Joey - Joey is a good role model for collaboration in the class. He works with lots of different children and always ensures that he does this sensibly and with care and consideration for others. Joey takes the time to explain ideas and concepts when working with a partner who may not be as confident as he is and he is always patient and understanding. He is open to advice and feedback from others to help him to improve his own work.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week’s superstar award goes to Colby in Year 1 for his dedication, care and warmth to the chicks this week. He has been amazing and has helped to clean them out. He has also been extremely gentle and kind to the chicks. Colby has had a fantastic week in class too and has worked collaboratively with the other children. Well done on an amazing week Colby and thank you so much for being our special helper with the chicks.

Maths Superstars!

The Maths Ambassadors have been awarding a Maths Superstar Trophy or stickers to children in each year who have been identified as being a superstar in maths this week. They are looking for children who are working really hard in every maths lesson.

The children who have been recognised this week are:

World Book Day and Breakfast with a book 8th March

Next Friday we are celebrating World Book Day and we hope you’ll join us to celebrate. As advised on the letter which was sent home with the children a while ago, we are inviting children to dress up for World Book Day. The book choice is key – even if it is just a prop or a clue, make sure your child is recommending something to read with their costume.

On World Book Day, children will be given a £1 book token that they can use to buy a new book.

Getting a free £1 book for your child is easy – simply take your book token to your nearest bookseller and swap it for a World Book Day £1 book or use it to get £1 off any book or audiobook costing £2.99 or more. You can find your nearest bookseller at

https://www.worldbookday.com/books-and-tokens/books/participating-retailers/

If your child does not attend nursery or school yet, they can still get their free book using one of the digital tokens found using the following link:

https://www.worldbookday.com/digital-tokens/

We would love to include parents/carers in our celebrations by inviting you to come in to school for breakfast with a book next Friday morning. Join us for a delightful morning to share a special reading session with your child. Whether it's enjoying a book together, listening to your child read, or reading to them, immerse yourself in the joy of literacy while savouring a delightful breakfast. It's a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the bond through the magic of storytelling.

Date: Friday 8th March 2024

Time: 9:00am – 10:00am

Place: KS1 – Bottom Hall and KS2 – Top Hall

If you would like to attend, please make sure your child brings their reply slip back to their class teacher on Monday if they haven't done so already.

We will also be holding a raffle on the day for the opportunity to win book prizes. We are very much looking forward to celebrating World Book Day, which could not happen without the support of parents and carers – thank you.

Mothers Day Shop Friday 8th March

Our fabulous PTA team will be holding their annual Mothers Day Shop next Friday during the school day. Please see below for further details.

If you would like your child to visit the shop, please make sure that they bring their money with them on Friday morning as the office staff cannot guarantee that any money received after the start of the school day will make it to your child before they visit the shop. We would also appreciate it if siblings could bring separate money please, as the school office no longer has any cash to be able to split notes for you.

Bawtry Library World Book Day celebrations

Bawtry Library will be celebrating World Book Day next week. As part of their celebrations, they would like to give a free book to each child who visits the library. The books will be from their second hand bookshop and are all in good condition.

If you would like to take advantage of this generous offer, please visit the library which is open from Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm and on a Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

If you do visit the library for your child to choose their free book, we would love it if you would send us a picture of your child in the library with their new book. Please send any photos to admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk

Goodbye!

First thing this morning, Scott from Living Eggs came to collect our 9 chicks. We were really sad to say goodbye to them. The children have loved watching the chicks grow. The chicks very quickly started to get their big feathers and grew at a phenomenal rate - this isn't surprising as no sooner had their full food bowl been placed down, all the food was gone! Some of the children got to help with the cleaning out of the chicks and they have been a real talking point for children, parents/carers and staff. We will really miss them and the entrance to school is certainly a lot quieter without them!
