End of half term message from Mrs Powell

Dear BMPS families,

I cannot believe that I am writing this at the end of the first half term as it feels that it has gone so quickly!

The rain today did not dampen the mood in school as we celebrated together in this morning’s assemblies all the lovely things that have already happened so far this academic year. A residential, a welcome assembly, weekly yoga, #helloyellow, Harvest Festival, tennis club, Messy Church, social evenings, crafternoons, pedestrian training, balance bikes, EYFS open afternoons, cook stars and so much more! There are so many people to thank for these amazing experiences and opportunities and I take this chance to say how lucky we feel to have you supporting our school.

The team changed and grew bigger again this year, and it’s been great to see how wonderfully settled the children are in their new classes, but also how Mrs Ward, Miss Scott, Mrs Singh, Miss Ridley and Mrs Hollingworth have already made such a difference and are wonderful additions to the BMPS crew!

At our fantastic Harvest festival on Wednesday, Rev Liz and Tony spoke about focussing on ‘giving and not getting’ and the children were really articulate in what they were truly grateful for in the world. We feel it is so important that our families work together with school and give support to each other in all the challenges that we may face. I feel that I have had the opportunity to get to know more families through these conversations this year so far and I hope this does continue in a reflective and positive way in the future too.

Your donations have been gratefully received by both foodbanks selected by school and the church couldn’t believe how many bags were just for them to take and that was only half. Your generosity will help so many struggling families.

We are also pleased to report that our attendance data is currently well above national figures for the year too. This is fantastic news as you can see from this graph.

This can only mean that our children are accessing more learning opportunities here each week.

And a final thank you to all who purchased raffle tickets this week. We managed to raise an amazing £274 towards our planned exciting Christmas events happening in school for all the children.

Have a wonderful half-term break. I will hopefully stay on two feet this time with no other ‘break’ needed!

Mrs Powell

Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.

Nursery & Reception

Frankie in Nursery for doing good listening and always smiling at register time.

Nova in Reception because she does fantastic listening and is a good role-model for the other children.

Year 1

Connor K – This week we have been focusing on how we can be responsible citizens and Connor is definitely a responsible citizen in Year 1. He always makes sure he is being kind, working hard and being respectful to his friends and teachers. Connor always has a wonderful smile on his face and puts in his bests efforts into his learning and that’s what we love to see. Well done, Connor!

Samuel P – Well done, Sam! It has been a pleasure to see you flourish this term. You have been making a very big effort in following our school rules and being responsible for your learning. You have done a great job this week in being a responsible citizen by helping your friends and listening to your teachers. Keep up the good work!

Year 2

Noah J - for always taking responsibility for himself and following the school rules quietly and conscientiously. He ensures that the classroom is kept tidy and resources are ready and available for his table to use.

Annie W - for showing that she is a responsible citizen by always demonstrating her understanding of the school rules, always being ready to learn and help others, and by always being polite and helpful.

Year 3

Olivia - Olivia has been an asset to our class this week. She is always considerate of others and goes above and beyond to help her peers. It has also been a pleasure to watch Olivia grow in confidence this half term.

Maddison D - Maddison is a very helpful member of our class, she's always the first to volunteer to help in any way she can. Maddison is a good friend to all and always tries to make people smile.

Year 4

Savana shows that she is a responsible citizen in many ways in class. She follows instructions carefully so she is always doing the right thing. Savana notices when something needs organising or tidying and is always willing to help. She is an excellent partner in class and is able to give kind reminders about what is expected.

Oliver works extremely hard in class every day. He sets an excellent example to other children with his hard working attitude and his high levels of focus and concentration. Oliver is always willing to help other children with their learning  and he does this kindly. Well done Oliver!

Year 5

Thomas - I have seen a real improvement this week in Thomas' confidence and in his willingness to push himself to do more. He has worked hard to ensure that his work has been completed to the best of his ability. Well done Thomas, keep it up!

Rose - Rose is invariably kind and respectful. She shows compassion and empathy towards others each and every day. She always supports her peers in their learning and celebrates their achievements. She will carry out jobs in a responsible, mature manner when asked to do so. She is a fantastic role model to all her peers. Well done Rose! A model citizen! Keep it up!

Year 6

This week in school, we have been focusing on being respectful citizens and have been talking about how we can be a respectful citizen in school, at home and in and around our local area. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.

Brione is an excellent role model for respect in our class. She consistently treats all people and property with respect and does things, without being asked, to make our classroom and school a nicer and safer place to be. She regularly pushes chairs in, tidies up resources and helps other children to put things away. Brione treats others with the utmost respect at all times and speaks to everyone the way that she would like to be spoken to. Thank you for all you do Brione.

Joey models being a respectful citizen in our school community every day. He does things, without being asked, that make our classroom a nicer and safer place to be. He always does more than his fair share to tidy away resources and never complains when other children leave things out - he just puts them away with a smile on his face. Joey holds doors open for adults and other children and treats others the way that he would like to be treated. Thank you for all you do in our class Joey.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week, Phoebe in Year 2 was presented with the award for always being a responsible citizen of our school. Phoebe, you are always so kind, caring, thoughtful and helpful. Thank you for being such a wonderful person; we are so lucky to have you at our school.
