Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them.

Foundation

Colby - For making good choices and working well with his friends when he has spent time in the classroom this week.

Scarlett - For being really kind and helpful to her friends. When her friends are stuck, she always offers to help them out.

1/2A Mrs Davies

Tommy - for a fantastic start to the summer term. He is eager to learn and is always polite and helpful. He's already on the "Be Kind" and the "Be Respectful" boards!

Annie W - for continuing to be a fantastic role model to all those around her! She is always the first to be ready to learn. She always tries really hard and is her work is improving all the time.

1/2B Miss Cruickshanks

Maddison D - For her hard working attitude throughout all areas of the curriculum. Maddison has displayed excellent arithmetic problem solving skills in Maths and never gives up! Thank you for setting the perfect example to others.

Rose - For striving for excellence in anything she sets her mind to and for having a brilliant attitude to learning always!

1/2C Mrs Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor

Logan - He has been working really hard this past week in all subjects. However, in arithmetic he has worked really hard and has blown Miss Cruickshanks socks off! He worked independently for the whole session answering all the questions and checking that his answers made sense. We are so proud of this attitude towards learning - keep it going!

Layla - She has been working so hard recently in all areas of learning. She has developed an even better attitude towards her learning, which is allowing her to complete her work to a great standard. She is showing great resilience and is not giving up when her learning is a little tricky - keep going!

3/4A Mrs Wood

Rory has been working hard in every lesson this week. He put in a supreme amount of effort and hard work during the cricket coaching session. He did not stop chasing the ball!

Zara has been working hard in class and has completed additional tasks without complaint! She has shown how resilient, determined and hard working she is this week!

3/4B Mrs Perry

Sophie M - For being kind. This week Sophie has thought about others. Helping them to settle back in or support with their learning. She has also offered to help keep the classroom tidy, sometimes using her own time to do this in.

Oliver - For being respectful. At every opportunity Oliver has shown excellent learning behaviours and shown respect to all adults in the phase.

5/6A Miss Dunn and 5/6B Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker

Riley P, Ellis, Maisie, Rowan, Jodie and Joe - for being #LitterHeroes. These children are actively volunteering their time to pick up litter, reduce waste and improve the environment around them. They are embodying our school rules by being kind and respectful to our school environment and working hard to ensure that it is a nice environment for everybody to enjoy.

No parking in school car parks

Just a reminder that the school car parks are for staff only. Parents/carers should not park in these at any time of day please.

Coronation Picnic Lunch Friday 5th May

Plans are underway in school for a fun, activity-filled day on Friday 5th May 2023, to celebrate the King's Coronation. As part of this day, we would like to invite parents/carers/family members into school for a whole school picnic lunch.

Those children on school dinners will receive a picnic lunch on 5th May rather than the menu option. This will consist of:

Sandwiches

Crisps

Piece of fruit

Chocolate Crunch

Carton of juice

We would like our nursery children and their families to join in with this event too.

We will be sending something out via ParentPay email at the beginning of next week to parents/carers of those children who currently have packed lunches and also to parents/carers of our nursery children to ask whether they would like a picnic lunch provided by school.

We would like parents/carers/family members to bring their own picnic lunch and everyone in school will sit together on the field to eat their food. Our school cook will be making Coronation-themed biscuits too!

The picnic lunch will take place from 12pm to 1.30pm on Friday 5th May. A letter will be coming home at the beginning of next week and this will have a reply slip at the bottom. Please ensure this is returned to school by the deadline date which will be provided on the letter, as we need to know in advance who will be joining us.

We hope as many of you as possible can join us on the day.

Year 6 nursing forms

The children in Year 6 should have brought home a School Nursing form this week for parents/carers to complete. Could you please ensure that the form is returned to school by no later than next Wednesday, 26th April please.

Year 1/2 PE kits next week

We would like the Year 1/2 children to come in their PE kits on Monday next week (Monday 24th April) rather than Tuesday please.

Leavers hoodies Y6

An email was sent earlier this week to Year 6 parents/carers regarding leavers hoodies. Parents/carers will have the opportunity to purchase their child a Leaver’s Hoodie which they will be allowed to wear for the last half term here at school. The hoodie will have our school logo on and will have all the names of the children in a ‘23’ design on the back. These will be delivered to school and given out after May half term.

These will be able to be purchased from https://www.schoolleaverscompany.co.uk/ via an online shop from Monday 24th April. The order will need to be completed by Friday 12th May online for their hoodie to arrive at school on time. This is at a cost of £23 for the hoodie and the front/back school personalisation.

The Poet from the Peaks

Yesterday we had a visit from Andy Tooze, 'The Poet from the Peaks', who spent the day working with all the children throughout school. The day started with an assembly where Andy introduced himself and set the children a challenge of writing some poems of their own with an animal theme. Belle, Evelyn and Tommy from Year 1/2 found the whole day 'exciting' (Belle), 'amazing' (Evelyn) and 'joyful' (Tommy). The children explained that the poems didn't have to rhyme. Tommy wrote a poem about a rabbit, Evelyn's was about a cat and Belle's was about a monkey.

Once all the children had written their poems, those who wanted to showed them to Andy who then chose some poems to be read out in the afternoon assembly. It is fair to say that Andy was blown away by the work that the children had completed! He definitely has some fellow poets to compete with in a few years time!

The children had the opportunity to purchase one of Andy's poetry books during the day and he signed these for the children as a special reminder of his visit.

Please click on the arrows to the left and right of the blog image at the top of this page to see some photos from Andy's visit.

Recognition Board Success

Congratulations to the children below who have received their Recognition badges from Mrs Powell recently. They all got their names under all 3 categories on the Recognition board - Work Hard, Be Kind and Be Respectful. Well done everyone!

If your child has been awarded with their Recognition Badge recently and hasn't yet appeared on one of our Friday blogs, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and we will make sure we celebrate their success on one of our future blogs.

News from Year 5/6

This week, Year 5/6 started their new topic: Human Rights and Responsibilities.

The children were introduced to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. They investigated how rights apply to everyday life by examining a street scene showing human rights in practice. The children learnt about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and identified rights being enjoyed, denied and demanded. They ranked the rights in order of importance based on their own thoughts and opinions.

ASK Club

We were so pleased to welcome the volunteers from ASK Club back into school this week. We haven't seen them for such a long time, so it was so wonderful of them to be available to run one of our after school clubs for us. Once the club had finished, the volunteers provided some amazing feedback about the children who attended. They were blown away by how polite, respectful and caring all the children were and they said they were such a lovely group of children to work with. They are really looking forward to getting to know all the children as the club progresses.

If your child attends ASK Club, please pass this on to them. We are always so proud of our children and it's lovely to know that others notice how amazing they are too!

Congratulations!

Libby in Year 1 took part in a gymnastics competition last weekend. She never goes to these competitions expecting to win anything but given how hard she trains each week it is a time for her to showcase her skills. Last weekend Libby was super focused and won the bronze medal for her age group at the East Midlands GFA (British Gymnastics for All) Competition! She had to travel to a club near Nottingham and perform in three disciplines - vault, floor and bench. Her family are so proud of her dedication to her sport and her sporting attitude towards her fellow gymnasts and so are we! Well done Libby ? You work so hard at your gymnastics and are always determined to do your very best. Your positive attitude shines through and you should be really really proud of yourself!
