Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. The children who have been chosen as the stars of the week this week will find out and receive their certificates and stickers in our final celebration assembly of this school year on Monday.
Message for our Year 6 children
To our Year 6 children – where on earth do we start?!
You have given us so many memories over the course of this year: ones that will make us smile; ones that will make us laugh and even ones that will make us roll our eyes but we will treasure each and every one of them. You have made us feel the full range of emotions this year but the overwhelming one, and the one that we will finish this year with, is pride. We are proud of the determination and resilience that you have shown and when it comes to your learning, we simply could not ask for any more – you have given your final year at Bawtry Mayflower your all and we could not be prouder of all that you have achieved. You have taught us some things along the way too – patience and tolerance being some of these, not to mention the wide array of new vocabulary that we have been able to add to our repertoires!
As you embark on the next part of your journey, you have so many exciting opportunities and experiences waiting for you and we hope that you embrace them all with courage and determination; with the risk of sounding cliché, the world really is your oyster (we never really understood that saying either!) and all the decisions that you make from this point on will determine the path that you take in life so make the very best of them all.
Our advice to you moving on is simple: stand up for what’s right and speak out against what isn’t; champion others – celebrate in the successes of your friends and support them when they stumble; and above all, in a world where you can be anything, be kind.
You are all unique and that’s what makes you who you are so always be yourself. Thank you for the memories and good luck with the next part of your journey. We can’t wait to hear all about your achievements in the future.
Miss Dunn and Mrs Pickersgill
Year 6 Leavers Assembly Tuesday 25th July
On Tuesday 25th July, we will hold our annual Leavers Assembly for our Year 6 families. This will start at 1pm promptly. Please come to the school office to sign in and the office staff will then direct you through to where the assembly is being held.
Please ensure you arrive on time, as all the staff want to say goodbye to the Year 6 children and will therefore be in the assembly from 1pm onwards.
Once the leavers assembly has finished, the children can leave with their families and younger siblings.
Year 6 photo in Doncaster Free Press
If your child is in Year 6 and was included in the year group photo recently for the Doncaster Free Press, we have been asked to inform you that the newspaper including the photo is now on sale in retail outlets priced at £1.60 (subject to availability). If you pre-ordered this edition of the newspaper, these were delivered to school this week and should have come home with your child tonight.
Last day of school Tuesday 25th July
On the last day of term, all children can be collected from 1.45pm onwards. Please come to the school office and a member of staff will bring your child/children to you as soon as they can.
Change of training day for the next school year
One of the training days has now been changed for the next school year. There will now no longer be a training day on Monday 30th October. The training days for the next school year will now be as follows:

Tuesday 4th June 2024 (this is the changed date and replaces the training day which was planned for 30th October 2023)
Monday 22nd July 2024
Tuesday 23rd July 2024
These have been updated on the website calendar and a new school holiday calendar which will include these dates will be available to view from the beginning of next week on the 'For Parents' section of our website by clicking on 'Term Dates'.
Meeting for Caythorpe Residential in September
If your child is currently in Year 5, you will be aware that the Year 6 residential will take place between 27th and 29th September 2023. A parents meeting has been arranged on Thursday 7th September at 4pm to provide parents and carers with the necessary information for this trip.
A kit list has been sent home with your child this week so that you know what your child will need to bring with them in advance.
Any questions, as always, please just ask.
Miss Dunn.
Consent form/regular visit consent form
If your child is in Reception to Year 5 and you haven't yet returned your completed consent form and/or regular visit consent form, please ensure this is returned to your child's class teacher next week. We want to ensure that we have everyone's forms back by the end of term, so that we have them in place ready for September.
Colour Run
Yesterday, our PTA held Mayflower's first ever Colour Run. We were not sure what to expect but the excitement during the morning was amazing!! What a fantastic event! We are sure those of you who took part with your children/grandchildren will agree that it was a fabulous, fun-filled event. The children absolutely loved getting covered in paint and also loved seeing their families and staff members covered too!! Thank you to our PTA team for organising this event and to all the helpers for making it so brilliant. Here are a small selection of the many photos that were taken on the day. We will add more to our website at the beginning of next term.
Music Concerts
Last Friday, the children who have guitar and woodwind tuition in school and our Year 6 children, who have taken part in Doncaster Music Hub's Wider Opportunities brass lessons this year, performed a concert for their families and the rest of the school.
We are so proud of every single one of the children who took part. If they were nervous, they certainly didn't let it show and treated everyone to some beautiful music. The sound that the children made on their guitars was beautiful and Miss Hill was a super proud teacher. The children have worked really hard for Miss Hill this year and all the practise definitely paid off.
Elodie played some clarinet solos for everyone and blew us all away! You are amazing Elodie! For someone of 9 years old to be able to play the clarinet like that is really special - keep up the hard work and who knows where your musical talents will take you!
Our brass band finished off the concert for us and Mr Latimer was incredibly proud of each and every one of the children. The children have worked really hard in their brass sessions this year and worked really well as a team which definitely showed in the concert.
Well done everyone!
Rocksteady Concert
Earlier this week, the children who have been taking part in the weekly Rocksteady music lessons performed for their families and the rest of school. Alex, the band leader, was thrilled with how the children performed. They were self-assured and confident and it seemed like they had been playing for years! They treated everyone to a wide variety of different songs and each group made sure that the audience got louder and louder with their cheers! Special mention to Max and George who performed 'Living on a prayer' to finish the concert - it was so good they performed it twice! Who knew we had so many budding rock stars in our midst?!
If you are interested in your child continuing or starting their journey with Rocksteady music lessons, please see the information below for how to sign your child up to these for next term.
Dance performances
This week, the children who have taken part in the dance after school clubs performed an end of term show for their families. On Monday, our Key Stage 1 children kicked the performances off and treated their families to a superb show! There were tricks and lifts galore! It was the Key Stage 2 children's turn on Wednesday and again, they wowed everyone with their moves!
The children have all loved their dance lessons this term and the smiles on their faces during the performances really proved this. We would like to thank Paige from Cre8ive Dance who has led the dance sessions. She certainly knows how to get the best out of the children and we look forward to seeing some more fantastic dance talent when our dance clubs start up again after the summer holidays.
After School Clubs from September
If your child has been allocated a place on an after school club for September, please ensure that you log in to ParentPay by Friday 1st September to make the required payment.
Year 6 performance
Well I’m sure that when you started Year 6, you couldn’t even imagine that we would be finishing the year in dresses, make up and hoodies. Did we Zak?? What a superb performance this afternoon!
So what a year they have had. Right from the very start, this Year 6 class have been wonderfully unique. They have packed a great deal in and have shown themselves individually to be thoughtful, brave, accepting of challenge, fun, curious, motivated, socially conscious, passionate speakers and communicators, hard workers but most of all able to take responsibility for their future and learning and most of all great fun.
If I was to list some of the things that they have achieved, I’d be here all day – but a few of them are:
- Edscape(opologists!)
- Pupil voice groups
- Sports leaders
- Rocksteady performers
- EYFS buddies
- Phonics buddies
- Crea8ive Dancers
- Robin and Sherwood Hoodies and performers
- An orchestra
- Maths stories writers
- Activists for change
- Danum read aloud winners
- Amazing end of year outcomes
- Mini tennis stars and so much more
This performance today has been a celebration of their time at Bawtry Mayflower where they have grown as confident, articulate children who feel empowered to perform by the love and support from you; their families.
A huge thank you to the staff and support that has made today happen. Mrs Pickersgill who has turned into a very serious director of the performing arts, and Miss Dunn for her reassurance and positivity that it will all be amazing which it certainly was wasn’t it!
But Year 6. Your individuality and confidence is what has made this special. We hope you know that we are immensely proud of you, - we know that you will continue to SHINE. You represent all that is good, providing hope and joy in our lives. You will have bright futures, happy and fulfilled lives because you know what you can achieve. And believe me when I say that I knew you all well (and yes some had more office time than others).
But remember; be kind – always! Show love and be caring, and continue to work hard for your dreams, whatever they may be, because that’s what WE all dream for you all.
Thank you all for coming and supporting them today – and laughing at all the right parts too. We look forward to seeing you all next Tuesday, but if that’s not possible and this is even your last time at Bawtry with your child. Thank you for everything.

Congratulations!
Evie from Reception wanted to share with everyone her sunflower. She planted it at school a few weeks before Easter and brought it home when it started to grow. She’s taken good care of it and now it’s almost as tall as she is!
Owen, also from Reception, was recently awarded his Stage 1 swimming certificate. Well done Owen! You must have worked really hard to get that certificate. We know you love swimming so we can't wait to share your next certificate on our weekly blog. Well done!
