Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who was chosen last week (as a blog wasn't published last week due to issues with our website) and who has been chosen this week, together with the reasons for them being chosen.

Nursery & Reception

Our stars this week go to:

Sophia in Nursery for trying really hard to do her best in all areas of learning. She always listens well and has become so much more independent at doing things for herself. She is always happy to come to school and kind and caring to her friends. She makes all of her teachers really happy.

Oakley in Reception for having a much more positive attitude recently. His teachers have noticed that he is trying really hard in all aspects of his learning. He is making much better choices, especially within his friendship groups. He is making his teachers feel really proud.

Year 1

My stars of the week this week are the whole class for being kind to each other on their trip to Austerfield Study Centre at the end of last week. I would also like to thank the children for being kind to every child in their teams on sports day.

Year 2

Oscar M and Ella - for being two of the kindest,  most respectful and empathetic people in our school. They are always ready to help in any given situation, from tidying the classroom, to giving out resources and helping others with their work. They do this quietly, respectfully and without seeking recognition. They are simply amazing children who can always be relied upon in all aspects of school life.

Thank you both for all you do for me and every member of our class.

Year 3

Oscar - Oscar has had a brilliant week, he has worked very hard, been respectful at all times and has been very kind to all peers. Oscar was noticed at sports day for his fantastic sportsmanship and respect to his team. He cheered everybody on and was very kind to children who didn't do as well as they would have liked. Well done, Oscar.

Evelyn - Evelyn has stood out this week for going above and beyond to make sure her peers are happy. She has been a good friend in many ways this week. Evelyn has helped her friends when they have been hurt or upset as well as being a good support to her peers in lessons. Well done, Evelyn.

Year 4

Elizabeth - Elizabeth is an excellent role model in  Year 4. She always follows our school rules and helps other children in class to do the same! Thank you!

Charlotte - Charlotte always works hard and follows our school rules. She is always conscientious with everything she does and is a helpful member of our class! Thank you!

Year 5

Caydon - this week, Caydon has demonstrated increasing confidence and has approached his learning with a positive attitude. It has been lovely to see Caydon enjoying his learning and enjoying school this week. I have seen a massive improvement in his behaviour and attitude and I hope this continues! Well done Caydon.

Valentina - Valentina is a kind and caring member of Year 5 who always tries to help and comfort others when they need it. She works well with lots of different partners in the class and shows good collaboration in lessons. Valentina offers her ideas and advice and always ensures that she listens to, and values, the thoughts and ideas of others. Keep it up Valentina!

Year 6

This week in school, our focus has been on one of our important school rules: kindness. We have been looking for those children who show kindness in all they do - whether this be with their peers during lessons, looking out for other children and showing kindness during lunch breaks and playtimes, or even those children who show kindness to staff members and people in our wider school community. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.

Skyla - Skyla has been a fantastic addition to our Mayflower family this year; she has fitted in so well and it really does feel like she has been with us for years. Skyla is an excellent role model for kindness in our class: she treats others the way that she would like to be treated and shows consideration to the feelings of others.

Skyla - it has been an absolute pleasure to have had you as part of our class this year; you are an absolute superstar. Good luck in your new school - they are so very lucky to have you.

Ella - Ella is one of the kindest, most thoughtful and considerate members of our class: she always treats others with respect and compassion and shows a great deal of consideration towards the feelings of all - whether this be her peers, other children across school or all members of school staff. There have been many examples this year of where Ella has gone above and beyond to help others and I really appreciate all that she has done.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.

My superstar award for this week goes wholeheartedly to Noah in Year 6. Not only has he shown that he is kind and caring to his friends, it was passed on from the PTA who organised our summer fair that he was super kind and very helpful to all the adults there. He will always offer assistance, try his best to help others when they need it and be an all-round superstar in supporting others. Well done Noah, I do hope this continues next year into Year 7!

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Parking in and around school

We would like to remind parents/carers and other family members that there should be no parking in the school car parks at any time of day please. The car parks are for staff and visitors only. We would also ask that those parking in the streets around school continue to do so respectfully with consideration for those who live on those streets please. Thank you as always for your support with this.

PTA Colour Run

Now that the Summer Fair has taken place, our PTA are focussed on their Colour Run. Our first Colour Run took place last year and was absolutely fantastic! We are hoping for another great event this year. The Colour Run will take place on Thursday 11th July, starting at 1.15pm. Posters will be put up around school next week to advertise the event and to remind parents/carers of what is needed. A letter will also be coming home next week to sign your child/family up to the event.

Everyone is welcome - children, adults and siblings not in school. Entry is £3 per child or £5 per sibling group and £2 for adults. Please wear an old white t-shirt (clothes will come home dyed with the paint!) and protective eye-wear MUST be worn (goggles/sunglasses etc).

There will be drinks, sweets and hotdogs for sale on the afternoon of the Colour Run. If an adult won't be attending, please send your child with money in an envelope/wallet. Card payment facility also available for adults on the day.

Events in school

We realised that we did not thank our PTA on last week's blog for their brilliant Father's Day Shop, which was held at the end of last week. As usual, our PTA did everyone proud with the wide range of gifts that was on sale. They always cater for everyone so that as many children as possible can visit the shop. Our children love this, as they always seem to manage to get a little something for themselves as well as for the special person in their lives! It is amazing how many gifts were purchased that were for 'dad' but were perhaps going to be for dad and his child to 'share'! This always makes us smile! Thank you to those who were able to help at the Father's Day Shop - we are so grateful that you could spare some time to help our PTA. Over £600 was raised at the shop, so thank you to everyone who sent their child in with money to spend.

This week has been even busier than normal in school! We started the week with our Year 6 campout on Monday night, where Scotty's Heroes joined our Year 6 children for a campout in the school grounds. The children made their tea in mess tins, had a visit from an ice cream van (thank you PTA!), played laser tag, built dens, built camp fires and made smores on them, played hide and seek in the dark and ate lots of sweet treats inbetween! We certainly had some very tired children in school on Tuesday, as there wasn't much sleeping!

Wednesday saw our Dance teams take part in the Bawtry Arts Festival. Our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Dance after school clubs, together with some Year 5 and Year 6 children put on amazing performances for their families. They had all worked really hard this term with Paige, from Cre8ive Dance Academy and all their hard work certainly paid off. We have had lots of lovely comments from parents/carers regarding these performances, so thank you to those who took the time to say how much they enjoyed the event.

Yesterday was an extremely busy day in school, as we had our annual Sports Day in the morning following by our PTA Summer Fair after school. Sports Day was full of excitement as usual and we would like to thank everyone that came along to support the children. Congratulations to the White Team, who were the winners this year. There was a fantastic turnout and we are always so grateful for how much support our families give to the children - it really does make the difference especially at an event like Sports Day where the children love to be cheered on in their races. Thank you to the PTA for selling refreshments at Sports Day - it was much appreciated.

After school yesterday it was our PTA Summer Fair. This had taken lots and lots of planning by our PTA and we hope you'll agree that it was a fantastic event. There were lots of stalls and entertainment for everyone and, again, we were blown away by how many families supported this event. Over £800 was raised at the Summer Fair, which is phenomenal!

Finally, today was a non-uniform day to raise funds for our new Wellbeing space. £414 was raised today, so we would like to thank those who were able to donate today. Our Wellbeing Ambassadors have already got lots of ideas on how this money can be spent and all the children have the opportunity to benefit from this space when it's finished.

Photos to follow next week of some of the recent events we have had in school.

Congratulations!

Max in Year 1 had his first swimming lesson yesterday. Max, we have been told you were so confident when you were swimming and you are obviously a natural swimmer, as you were presented with 3 - yes 3!! - certificates! Keep up the hard work Max!

Jacob in Year 1 passed his first belt at Scorpion Taekwondo last week, a great achievement as he’s only been going for a few months. Jacob was the youngest child there too during the grading which is something to be really proud of. Well done Jacob! We wish you the best of luck on your next grading in September.
