Will your child be our next HERO?

Next week we will be having a real push on encouraging all children to be Here, Every day, Ready and On time. Every child who arrives on time for school every day next week will be entered into a prize draw, with a chance to win an Easter hamper for the whole family to enjoy.

We hope everyone is up for this challenge! We can't wait to share who the prize winner is on next week's blog!

Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.

Nursery & Reception

Star of the week this week in Nursery goes to Alfie. Alfie has had a great week, he has been really focused on our adult led tasks, he has drawn a detailed daffodil, made a clay pot and shared numbers in different ways in our maths activity. Alfie sets a great example for the other children.

In Reception, Sophia has grown in self-confidence throughout this half term, it is lovely to see how proud she is of her work which she loves to share with others. Sophia is a fantastic friend who cares for other children in the class making sure they are doing things the Mayflower way. Sophia has a caring nature which shines through every day as she greets everyone with a smile. Well done 🙂

Our second star of the week in Reception is Felix. Felix has been a super star this week forming new friendships and exploring new activities with them each day. He has loved exploring outside in provision and experimenting with cause and effect when throwing (and catching) different objects. Felix has been trying really hard with his fine motor skills during dough disco and touch counting in maths. He fills the room with his infectious smiles and lots of laughter each day. Keep being you Felix, well done 🙂

Year 1

Aaron - Aaron has had a fantastic week! He has been trying very hard to show respect during lessons by listening carefully, sitting smartly and following instructions. Aaron has been answering lots of questions really well and has been working hard to explain his answers. He continues to be a wonderfully kind member of the class and has been seen helping others and sharing nicely. Well done, Aaron!

Louie W - Louie is a super shining star every single week! He can be counted on to be following our school rules: work hard, be kind, and be respectful. He is always ready to start every lesson and joins in with great interest and enthusiasm. He has been working hard in all our lessons and has particularly been listening carefully in our history lessons- he is able to explain all about the Super Humans we have studied. Keep up the hard work, Louie!

Year 2

Matthew - for growing in so many ways! He is becoming more independent and is taking responsibility for his things and his actions. He shows determination to complete tasks and gain as many stickers as possible. It has been lovely to see him become a more integrated member of our class. Well done, Matthew!

Blu-Belle - for growing in confidence and self-belief throughout Year 2. Blu-Belle has realised that she can do anything she wants to do and has tried her very best to do exactly that! She attacks all of her learning with a desire to achieve. Her enthusiasm is infectious. Keep it up, Blu-Belle!

Year 3

Sadie – I have chosen Sadie this week as my star of the week for her resilience, determination and hard work in maths. We have been exchanging with multiplication and at first this didn’t come easy to Sadie but she didn’t let this bother her and instead showed me the Mayflower way and succeeded in achieving a good understanding of the learning by the end of the sessions.

Phoebe – I have chosen Phoebe this week as my star of the week for her developed confidence in herself and her learning especially in maths. Recently Phoebe hasn’t always found some of our new concepts easy to grasp but she hasn’t let this bother her. Instead she has showed me the Mayflower way and succeeded in achieving a good understanding of the learning.

Year 4

Dylan - Words cannot express how proud I am of this child! This week, he was given a maths investigation about area and perimeter. He grappled with the problem diligently throughout the lesson and did not manage to find a solution. He then asked if he could continue with it in the afternoon and sought help from a Year 6 to collaborate with. He then went home and came back to school the next day with a solution. I could not be prouder of your determination and effort Dylan.

Maggie - This week, Maggie has gone above and beyond in her writing lessons. She has shown me that she can use vocabulary banks and good examples given to structure and support her own writing. I have been so impressed with her positive attitude towards learning and the beaming smile on her face was evidence of this! Keep it up.

Year 5

Oliver B - Oliver is not deterred by setbacks and learns lessons from his mistakes. He understands that hard work leads to success. Oliver has a positive attitude towards his learning and is starting to believe that he can achieve anything he puts his mind to. It has been a pleasure to watch his confidence grow! Keep it up.

Elizabeth - Elizabeth demonstrates increasing confidence in new and unfamiliar situations and faces challenges with a positive attitude. She has made excellent progress this half term, particularly in reading, and she should be very proud of herself. Keep up the hard work Elizabeth.

Year 6

Our focus across school this week has been on one of our incredibly important school rules: Be Kind; adults across school have been noticing those children who go above and beyond to 'grow in kindness'. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this theme in mind.

This has been so hard this week because we are lucky to have many kind children in Year 6. Special mention has to go to Elodie and Elsie though, for very similar reasons.

Elodie and Elsie both go above and beyond on a daily basis to just be kind; they can often be found in the Y6 classroom during their own time at break times and lunch times, supporting their peers to complete their work or helping them with something that they have found difficult, without even being asked. They are selfless in the way that they give their time, effort and attention to others, without a moment's hesitation or thought about how that might affect themselves. Elodie and Elsie are both excellent role models for others across school, acting with kindness, compassion and empathy and this shows in everything that they do.

Thank you both for all that you do for others; your kindness does not go unnoticed and we are lucky to have you as part of our class.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.

My superstar award for this week - after looking at the Jewish festival ‘Tu BiShvat’ and thinking about how we grow and how to help each other grow – goes to Jagoda in Year 3. She is the epitome of kindness in every action and every word. Our cook, during parent’s evening smiled when Jagoda arrived, and she told us that she always loves Jagoda bouncing up to the counter as she’s guaranteed a smile, a kind word and impeccable manners. What a lovely way to make somebody feel each day. Thank you Jagoda for being a Mayflower Superstar!

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Tickets for the chocolate raffle are on sale in the classrooms and from the school office, priced at £1 per strip for 5 tickets. Tickets will be on sale until next Friday morning.

Year 5 Residential meeting

As advised in our email at the beginning of this week, there will be a parents meeting for the Year 5 residential next Monday, 24th March. The meeting will take place straight after school and will be in the Year 5 classroom. Please wait on the upper playground for Mrs Pickersgill to let you into our upper building.

Gifts for a loved one shop Thursday 27th March

Our fabulous PTA team will be holding their next event, their 'Gifts for a loved one' shop next Thursday, 27th March during the school day. Items for sale at the shop will range from 50p to £3 and each class will have the opportunity to visit the shop.

If you would like your child to visit the shop, please make sure that they bring no more than £10 with them next Thursday morning, as the office staff cannot guarantee that any money received after the start of the school day will make it to your child before they visit the shop. We would also appreciate it if siblings could bring separate money please, as the school office no longer has any cash to be able to split notes for you.

This event has proved really popular in the past, so we know the children will love visiting the shop to buy something for their loved one (and maybe, just maybe, a little treat for themselves!)

Free breakfast club after Easter

Following on from our emails last week regarding the free breakfast club that First Steps Active Care will be running after Easter, please see the leaflet below for more information. Please ignore the links for the survey and the zoom meeting, as these have already closed or taken place as advised previously.

Congratulations!

Libby in Year 3 is a superstar gymnast. She competed with her squad team mates at Diamonds Gymnastics Club in Halifax last weekend. Libby came 1st in both floor and vault which earned her the silver all around medal. Her family told us she absolutely smashed it and even managed to smile during her routines.

Libby also recently won an award at her own club in recognition of her top sporting attitude when supporting her team mates. Well done Libby! We know your family are so proud of all your achievements and your excellent approach to your sport and we are too.

Logan in Year 4 was awarded Player of the Match recently for an excellent performance in defence for his football club. Well done Logan - keep up the hard work!

Olivia in Year 4 entered her first open competition in Taekwondo recently. This was a big step up in difficulty from previous matches. She showed an unbelievable level of determination and maturity for her age in the final, to come from 0-1 down to a more experienced fighter to then win the match 2-1. This resulted in her winning her first open competition gold medal. Hopefully this will be the start of bigger things to come on Olivia's Taekwondo journey. Congratulations Olivia!
