Happy Half Term!
Dear Bawtry Mayflower families,
What a busy, yet wonderful first half term of the year! I can honestly say I have been made to feel so welcome by you all, and it has been a great pleasure getting to know the children and the staff who turn up every day and have made each one a little bit brighter for me and each other. ??
The children have settled so well, and are enjoying a range of new after-school clubs, celebration and singing assemblies and their first school trip out together to our parish church this week was a huge success. Their singing and behaviour during the church service was fantastic! It was lovely to be able to do something school has always been a part of again as we move out of the covid restrictions that have been so limiting.
They have also shown they enjoy to go above and beyond and we shared some excellent determination poems written for world poetry day this month linked to our school values assembly.
This week, the children in Mrs Perry's class thoroughly enjoyed their treat for winning our attendance award for two weeks in a row! They shared some really creative ideas for winning over a half term so we may possibly see a small school pet arriving in the future!
After half term, we are looking forward to seeing you all at parent's evening and have planned lots of exciting events up to and including Christmas!! Thank you to the PTA for their help in organising the events that have taken place this half term and they also have many more already in the planning stage.
We have finished the week today with a celebration for all the children who have received their badges for getting onto our 3 recognition boards 'BE KIND, BE RESPECTFUL and WORK HARD'. I am super proud of them all. Click on the arrows to the left and right of the Blog image at the top of this page to see the children enjoying their celebration.
Have a wonderful half term break with your families.

Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them.
Here are this week's stars:
Foundation
Thomas for working really hard at tidy up time to put all of the resources away.
Eleanor for being really grown up and working hard in Read, Write, Inc. lessons.
1/2A Mrs Davies
Tillie for always being honest, kind and respectful. She is a joy to have in the class from the moment she greets us at the door in a morning to when she says goodbye at home time.
Noah G for his honesty and respectful attitude. He is a wonderful role model to all the other children in the class.
1/2B Miss Cruickshanks
Maddison D for being a caring and considerate member of my class and for being a role model to the other children.
Kiera for always making positive choices, always having the feelings of other children in mind and for always being honest.
1/2C Mrs Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor
Ella for always trying her hardest, completing her work to a high standard and being so helpful in the classroom.
Robyn for always listening to instructions and always willing to 'give things a go'.
3/4A Mrs Wood
Jayden - he has been working incredibly hard, particularly in Maths. He spotted a very tricky pattern in both of the maths investigations before anybody else and then worked hard to prove he was correct!
Freddie - he has been honest about his learning and working very hard in every lesson. Freddie can be relied upon to be truthful in class.
3/4B Mrs Perry
Jace for having much improved learning behaviours and attitude in class.
Sophia - Sophia can be relied upon to be honest and trustworthy doing any jobs.
5/6A Miss Dunn
Arthur - Arthur has shown great determination and resilience in developing his skills in netball. His confidence has really improved in this area of the curriculum and he plays well as a member of a team.
Daniel - Daniel was a fantastic role model for the younger children during our visit to church to celebrate the harvest festival on Wednesday. He looked after his younger partner very well and set a good example throughout the service.
Aiden has had a fantastic week in school. He has worked so hard and has really tried to make the adults smile with a good attitude towards his learning. He has showed determination and resilience, even when faced with challenging tasks.
5/6B Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker
Maisie for working independently in maths to find factors and multiples.
William for working hard and being determined in writing.
Harvest Festival donations
Thank you to everyone who donated items for the Bassetlaw Foodbank as part of our harvest celebrations. The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to church this week for the Harvest service. Thank you to all the volunteers who accompanied us on the walk to church and back - we really do appreciate it and hoped you enjoyed the service.
Fruit snacks for KS2
We just wanted to remind parents/carers that if children in Key Stage 2 would like to bring a fruit snack to eat at playtime, that's absolutely fine. Please remember that this should be a piece of fruit or chopped up fruit (grapes should be quartered) rather than fruit winders etc.
ClassDojo
If you haven't yet returned your child's reply slip regarding ClassDojo, could you please return this on the first day back after half term.
Find out more about why we're excited to use ClassDojo and how it is safe and simple by clicking on the link below.
Help with eating out at half term
We thought it would be useful to share the following link below with parents/carers. The article provides details of food outlets where children can eat for free or for a small amount over half term. The article also provides details of what is needed to take advantage of each offer.
Individual and sibling photos Monday 31st October
Don't forget that Tempest photographers will be coming into school on Monday 31st October to take the individual and sibling photos. Please add this date to your calendar/diary; as it's the first day back after half term when they are visiting us, we won't be able to send a reminder beforehand.
The photographer will be available from 8am on Monday 31st October if any parents/carers would like to bring their children in to have a photo with a sibling who doesn't attend Bawtry Mayflower. Please come to the school office and we will direct you to the photographer.
Our Reception children usually have PE on a Monday. On Monday 31st October, the Reception children will need to come in their school uniform please. They will still do PE on that day but will do activities that can be done wearing uniform.
Parents Evenings Wednesday 9th November
As advised previously, the parents evening for this term will take place on Wednesday 9th November. If you haven't yet booked your appointment on ParentMail, please do so as soon as possible.
The discussion between you and your child's teacher will take place in person in your child's classroom. Children are welcome to come along if parents wish them to.
The booking system will close at 3pm on 8th November.
Thank You PTA!
The film nights that took place over the last couple of weeks were a huge success. The children had a great time and we would like to thank everyone who helped at the events.
We are really lucky to have such a supportive PTA. With their fundraising, we are able to provide additional resources and opportunities for our children that just wouldn't be possible without their support.
If you are interested in finding out more about our PTA, we will provide information of their next meeting on a future blog.
News from Year 1/2
This week the children have completed their sequences of learning based all around sculptors in Art. The children took inspiration from Joan Miro and have been building on their skills and knowledge to create their own collaborative abstract trees. The children had to use all of their sculpting skills and work collaboratively with their partners. They created some fantastic pieces. Well done year 1/2!
This week the learning in maths has been all things 2D shaped. We have been exploring sides, vertices and the most efficient way to sort them. Can you give your child a super shape question? You'll be amazed to find out what they know!
News from Foundation
This week, the children in Reception went on an Autumn walk around the school grounds. We enjoyed rustling and crunching through the leaves, collecting natural objects and throwing 'helicopters' in the air!!
