The children are speeding along now with gathering all the letters from the word MAYFLOWER! As you are aware, each class with 100% attendance on a particular day will receive one letter from the word MAYFLOWER to put on their classroom door. Once a class has spelt out the word MAYFLOWER, a member of the class will bring all their letters down to the office to claim their prize from our box of Awesome Attendance Activities!
Please see below where each class stands at the end of today:

Who was our first HERO?
This week we have celebrated those children who have been a HERO (Here, Every day, Ready and On time). Those children who were on time every day this week were entered into a prize draw, with a chance to win a movie night hamper for the whole family to enjoy.
Congratulations to Wynter in Year 5, who was the winner of the prize this time. We hope you and your lovely family enjoy settling down to watch a movie and enjoying the delicious snacks that are in the hamper. Wynter was presented with her prize by Henry and Charlotte, who are our Attendance Ambassadors.
We will be holding this initiative again in the Summer Term and look forward to handing out another hamper to our next HERO.
Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.
Nursery & Reception
Hugo in Nursery for working really hard in phonics lessons, he has learnt all of the sounds that we have done so far and is great at helping his friends out too. He has shown he has done good listening and tried his best.
Luke in Reception for being a super star learner all week. He has tried really hard in all areas, he has been really enthusiastic. Even asking for more work when he has finished what he has been given to do!
Year 1
This week our focus has been Grow in Kindness and this week in Year 1 our stars have been;
Owen: Owen is a true role model at following our school rules and especially at being kind. You are a kind, caring and polite individual, never forgetting your manners and you encourage those around you to make the right choices. I hope your kindness continues to grow, Owen. Well Done and keep up the good work!
Blu – Belle: You are a superstar Blu – Belle and such a wonderful individual. Your kindness shines throughout school and you are a fabulous role model to all those around you. You never shy away from helping your peers and you are extremely patient. I’m sure your kindness will continue to grow even more! Well done.
Year 2
Jagoda and Oscar M - for being shining examples of kindness in every aspect of school life. They quietly and conscientiously help and support other children during work and play. They always have a kind word for adults and children whenever one is needed. They help when help is needed without making a fuss or seeking something in return. They are wonderful and inspire others to grow in kindness too.
You are both amazing - thank you for being you!
Year 3
Olivia F - Olivia has been a very kind friend to others these past few weeks. She has noticed when others need a friend and will be the person to make them feel better. Well done Olivia!
Mae - Mae not only demonstrates kindness at all times, she also reminds others to be kind to each other. Mae is a great role model to others and shows what it means to be kind on a daily basis. Well done Mae!
Year 4
Tamara - Tamara is always kind to other children. She notices when they are upset or need some help and she is always happy to look after someone and be a good friend.
Noah - Noah is a very kind and caring member of class. He notices when other children are upset or need support. He is very helpful to his partners in class and gives reminders and support when he thinks they need it.
Year 5
This week in Year 5, we have been thinking about being kind. I have been looking for those children in Year 5 who show kindness in their actions all the time and this has been the focus for this week's Stars of the Week.
Vinnie B - Vinnie is kind to everyone all the time and as a result of this, he is a valued and respected member of Year 5. He always treats others the way he would like to be treated and shows tolerance to other people. This week he has demonstrated his kindness by being a good friend; he has shown care and concern for those around him and has supported them to help them to feel better. Keep being you!
Cameron - Cameron is a valued member of Year 5 who acts with kindness all the time. She is a quiet and thoughtful member of our class. She is invariably kind and caring and sensitive to the feelings of others. She is a good friend to all. She completes random acts of kindness all the time - from helping others with their work, to offering to do jobs and tidying resources away. Well done Cameron! Keep it up!
Year 6
This week in school, our focus has been on one of our important school rules: kindness. We have been looking for those children who show kindness in all they do - whether this be with their peers during lessons, looking out for other children and showing kindness during lunch breaks and playtimes, or even those children who show kindness to staff members and people in our wider school community. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Amelia - Amelia embodies this important school rule at all times. She is a caring and considerate member of the class who thinks about the feelings of others at all times - often putting them above her own. Amelia shows kindness and respect to all children and adults across school. I hope that others realise how lucky they are to be able to call you a friend Amelia.
Joey - Joey embodies this school rule and shows kindness towards everyone; not only is he kind to his friends and his Year 6 peers, but he shows kindness towards the younger children in school at all times - even doing this when people might not be as kind towards him. He shows kindness and respect to all staff members and visitors to the school too and he always has a smile on his face which makes others smile.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week’s superstar award goes to Oscar S for his super attitude towards all that he does in school. He always gives 100% effort and does this with humility and respect to others at all times. Not only is he a superstar worker, he also promotes positive play at break times and is always a friendly face to all who need someone to play with too! Well done Oscar, the playground is always a happier place with you on it!!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign that the children will be learning next week.

Welcome Back!
We are really looking forward to welcoming Mrs Walker, our Deputy Head, back into school next week. Mrs Walker has been on maternity leave and it will be really lovely to see her back in school. Lots of the children and families have been asking when Mrs Walker will be returning and we can't wait to have her back with us. Welcome back Mrs Walker!
Goodbye and good luck!
Next week, we will say goodbye and good luck to Mrs Singh, our Year 1 teacher, who is leaving us to start her maternity leave. Mrs Singh won't be returning to Mayflower after her maternity leave, as she was temporarily covering for Mrs Birkinshaw who will return to us at the end of the Summer Term.
We will say a proper goodbye to you on next week's blog Mrs Singh - we don't want to believe that you are actually leaving us, so will save the proper goodbye until next week.
Wraparound Care for after Easter
Morgan, from First Steps Active Care (our new wraparound care provider after Easter) came to visit school today and spoke to the children during assembly. We are really pleased to be able to provide continuing wraparound care for those families who require it and hope that our relationship with First Steps Active Care is a long and happy one.
Please see the flyer below for details of how to book a place for your child at the wraparound care after Easter. If you have any queries about the club going forward, please contact First Steps Active Care.
Year 6 parents/carers SATs meeting Monday 25th March
As advised previously, we would like to invite parents/carers of children in Year 6 to a meeting about the KS2 SATs tests which will take place during the Summer Term. The meeting is next Monday, 25th March at 3pm and will be held in the Year 6 classroom.
The meeting is aimed at parents/carers; however, the children are welcome to attend. We hope as many of you as possible can make it to this meeting.
Dance after school club performances
Don't forget that there are performances next week from our KS1 and KS2 Dance after school clubs, so that the children can show their parents/carers/other family members what they have been learning this term. You are in for a real treat!
The performances will take place as follows:
KS1 Dance performance - 3.40pm Monday 25th March
KS2 Dance performance - 3.40pm Wednesday 27th March
The performances will take place in the lower hall. Please come to the school office to sign in.
Easter Raffle
Some of our children expressed their disappointment this afternoon as they said their parents were going to buy raffle tickets on Monday. The deadline was supposed to be today, but to ensure that as many children as possible get the opportunity to take part in the raffle, tickets will be on sale from the school office on Monday morning before the start of the school day.
Thank you again to everyone who donated Easter eggs/chocolate for the raffle. The children are so excited for Monday, when the raffle will be drawn in our morning assembly.
Thank you to Aliza, Archie and Layla's mum who has donated a fabulous Easter Bunny balloon sculpture for our raffle. The bunny has been keeping an eye on the eggs that are in the main entrance ever since it arrived yesterday!
Easter Bonnet Competition
What a fantastic array of Easter Bonnets we have had for our competition which will be held on Monday! It is obvious that lots of time and effort has been put into making the bonnets and we can't wait to see them all in the parade on Monday morning. We will announce the winner on next week's blog.
Kitchen Sink Science Fair
Last Friday, Mrs Davies held the Kitchen Sink Science Fair. Those who attended were treated to some fantastic science experiments. Mrs Davies is really passionate about science and it really showed in the event. We have had some lovely feedback from those who attended, which is so lovely. We really do appreciate it when parents/carers take the time to feed back to us on our events and are so glad that everyone who came thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
If we know Mrs Davies, she will already have some ideas for the next one!
Ageism Action Week Quiz/games event
This afternoon, we welcomed families and members of the local community into school for our Ageism Action Week quiz and games afternoon. The event was fantastic! Those who attended had a fantastic time and we hope to put on events similar to this in the future. Bringing those of different generations together is so important to us and we love inviting families in to school.
As part of the event, we were gifted a bench which will be used in the school grounds. Special thanks to Lorna Bagilhole and Ivor Greer, who attended the event. Lorna has been instrumental in securing funding for the event to take place and has worked really hard behind the scenes to make sure that the event could happen. She was also an amazing quiz master today! Thank you Lorna - you are amazing!
News from Year 2
This week in class, Year 2 made sculptures inspired by Andrew Goldsworthy. Some of the children have shared their fantastic work with us. We are sure you will agree that their sculptures are fantastic! Well done Year 2.
