Message from Mrs Powell

Happy Friday families,

The sun finally came out today for a while and it was lovely to see all the children playing outside with their Yr6 buddies or their friends without the wind and rain behind them! It was inevitable it was going to rain at home time though wasn’t it! I also had a very special afternoon when visiting our Reception children so they could ask me any questions they may have thought of about school and my job here. I am pleased to confirm there is a clear plan for us all now if we ever bump into an elephant in Bawtry!

This week’s values assembly on Monday was themed around gratitude and our pupil voice focussed on how we can really appreciate what we do have and what is special in our lives and not to worry about or focus on what we don’t have. In celebrating #worldgratitudeday2023 yesterday, the children spoke of their appreciation for hugs, shelter, friendship, warmth, an education, ferrets and much, much more! Our STARS OF THE WEEK and Superstar Award this week all celebrated the thanks and appreciation that the children have shown to all the adults in school. This has been achieved especially by our dinner dynamite awardees this week showing excellent manners in the dinner hall and on the playground.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend where maybe you too can spend some time sharing some gratitude and appreciation with others.

Mrs Powell.

Attendance

Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week, our Reception class and Year 6 class both had the highest attendance with 100%! Well done! Who will be our attendance champions next week?

Please see below for the attendance figures for this week. The target attendance for all children is currently set at 97%.

Nursery - 89.16%

Reception - 100%

Year 1 Miss Singh - 97.04%

Year 2 Mrs Davies - 97.86%

Year 3 Miss Scott - 96.97%

Year 4 Mrs Wood - 95.38%

Year 5 Mrs Pickersgill - 97.78%

Year 6 Miss Dunn - 100%

I am very grateful to have such a kind and caring child in my class.

Esme - Esme will confidently tell someone if she has problems doing her work and always listens to feedback which will take her learning further. Esme shows gratitude for the help that she is given by saying thank you. She is always polite and demonstrates lovely manners on a daily basis. I am very grateful to have such a wonderful student in my class.

Year 6

Evelyn - Evelyn always comes to school with a smile on her face. She shows gratitude by always using her manners and speaking to others with respect at all times. Evelyn shows that she is grateful for her friends in the class and she treats them how she would like to be treated. I am very grateful to have you in my class Evelyn.

Ella shows that she is grateful to the other children in the class when working on learning tasks together by valuing their contributions and listening to their advice. We are also grateful for you Ella.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week, Seth in Year 4 received this award for always showing gratitude both in and out of school. Seth is always so polite and helpful and is always appreciative of everything that those around him do for him. Seth, you have impeccable manners and a wonderfully positive attitude and this never goes un-noticed. You are a super role model for everyone in school and you definitely deserve the Headteacher's Award this week. Well done!

School office closure

We wanted to remind you that the school office is closed from 3pm every Tuesday afternoon. The office staff will still be in the office but will not answer the phone or open the door.

If you do need to contact the school office on a Tuesday afternoon, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk as emails will be checked prior to the office staff going home.

Coats

Please remember to send your child with their coat every day. As we're all aware, the weather can be beautiful and sunny in a morning but then quickly change throughout the day. We do try and get the children outside as much as possible at break times and lunchtimes, so if they get into the habit of bringing their coat each day it will be on their peg ready for them should they need it.

Consent Forms and Regular Visit Forms

Last term, we sent out blank consent forms (for consent for photos etc) and blank regular visit forms (for visits to church etc). We still haven't had some of these returned, so if we haven't received these completed forms back from your child we will send them home with new forms at the beginning of next week.

The deadline for these to be returned is next Friday, 29th September please.

Reception school nursing forms

Our Reception children should have brought home a School Nursing questionnaire this week. The school nursing team would appreciate it if you could please complete the form, place it in the envelope provided and return to your child's teacher by no later than next Tuesday, 26th September.

Special request from Year 1 and Year 2

Mrs Singh and Mrs Davies have asked us to request parents/carers to bring toilet roll and kitchen roll tubes for them, as they will be using them in the classroom in the near future. If your child isn't in Year 1 or Year 2 but you would like to bring some in, please bring them to the school office.

Who can work their magic?!

Are you artistic? Could you help us to bring our Storytelling Chair back to life? We are looking for someone who can work their magic on our Storytelling Chair so that we can put it in pride of place in our newly refurbished library. It is a beautiful chair that just needs someone's love and attention to make it a real statement piece in our library.

If you are up for the challenge, please ring the school office on 01302 710721.

Can you spare some time to help us please?

Can you spare a few hours each week to come into school and help us please? We are looking for some volunteers to help with reading, active play and with our allotment. If you may be interested, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk or ring the school office on 01302 710721 and we can make an appointment for you to come into school for a chat and to get further details.

No parking on site please

Please remember that parents/carers/family members should not be parking in the school car parks at any time. This also includes those dropping off and collecting from Hoglets wraparound care. Thank you in advance for your co-operation with this.

With Me In Mind

At the end of last term, we emailed out some information about a new service called 'With Me In Mind' who will be working with us this year. Attached to the email were some documents and we thought it would be useful to share this information again prior to the first drop in session which will take place on 4th October between 8.45am and 10.45am.

Welcome to With Me In Mind. We are a service that works with children and Young People who need support with their mental health and wellbeing. We work within certain schools across Doncaster and you and your children will see us at Bawtry Mayflower Primary School from September. We will be offering dates for parents to come and have a cuppa and a chat (please see the timetable below).

We can discuss the service with you and any concerns that you have about your children or your own mental health and wellbeing. Please have a look at the information below, as we can help with low mood, fears, stress, worries and emotional difficulties.

Our Year 5 & Year 6 children had a fantastic time at the PTA Social event after school yesterday. They had the opportunity to play games, take part in crafts and sit and chill with their friends. They listened to music and had some snacks and drinks.

Thank you to our PTA for organising this for our children and for those who gave up their time to help at the event.

Don't forget Year 3 & Year 4 parents that it's your child's turn next week! If your child would like to attend, the deadline for the reply slip and £3 to be given to your child's teacher is next Tuesday, 26th September.

XP Doncaster Student Showcase 26th September 2023 4pm to 6pm

XP Doncaster (XP School and XP East) continues to be one of the most oversubscribed schools, not only in Doncaster but across South Yorkshire and beyond. Despite this, it is important that we share our stories and engage with potential future students and their families. We are a mainstream school who provides outstanding experiences for our students and want to share this proudly with our local community.

What is the Student Showcase?

The Student Showcase is essentially a Year 6 Open Evening where prospective Year 6 students and their families are invited into school to find out more about the amazing work we do each and every day. Our schools sell themselves, but if students and families don’t hear our stories they will not fully understand what makes us stand out from the crowd.

Details have been posted on the XP schools websites where parents will be expected to complete a booking request.
