Attendance
Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week, Nursery and Mrs Davies' class had the highest attendance, both with 98.96%! Well done Nursery and Year 2!
Please see below for the attendance figures for this week. The target attendance for all children is currently set at 97%.

Celebrating fantastic attendance!
This term, we want to continue to celebrate our children's fantastic attendance. As you are aware, each class with 100% attendance on a particular day will receive one letter from the word MAYFLOWER to put on their classroom door. Once a class has spelt out the word MAYFLOWER, a member of the class will bring all their letters down to the office to claim their prize from our box of Awesome Attendance Activities!
This week, the classes have done amazingly well and lots of letters have been given out. Please see below where each class stands at the end of today:
Nursery - M A Y F L O
Reception - M A Y F L O W
Year 1 - M A Y F L O W
Year 2 - M A Y F L O W E R
Year 3 - M A Y
Year 4 - M A Y F L O W
Year 5 - M A Y F L O W E
Year 6 - M A Y F L O
The children are still loving coming to the office to claim their letters and seeing the word MAYFLOWER building up on their classroom doors. There is also some friendly competition going on!
It was so exciting this afternoon, as Year 2 collected their final letter to make the word MAYFLOWER!! Well done Year 2, we hope you enjoy your chosen prize of a Movie and Popcorn next week.
As you can see above, some of our other classes aren't too far away from completing their word either, so we are confident we will be handing out more class prizes next week. Well done everyone!
Attendance Monitoring
Following on from our half termly attendance monitoring meeting which was held at the end of last half term, we were hoping to send out letters this week. However, these letters will now be coming home with the children next week; these will be sent with the children addressed to a parent/carer at home. These letters form part of the local authority’s and school’s attendance policy and are a way of ensuring that you are kept informed of your child’s attendance when this drops below or continues to be below the expected level of 97%.
We will also be sending home letters to those parents/carers whose children continue to arrive late for the start of the school day.
As always, if there is anything we can help or support you with in relation to your child's attendance please don't hesitate to come and speak to us. You can either speak to your child's teacher, speak to a member of the school office team or ask to speak to Mrs Powell.
Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.
Nursery & Reception
Nursery - Rosa for having a super first week in Nursery and settling in really well, making new friends and joining in with all our activities.
Reception - Aaron for being a great friend this week and looking after other children, showing his kindness and being caring towards others.
Year 1
Sebastian: Sebastian has put a lot of effort and enthusiasm into working hard to achieve his full potential. Sebastian has been determined to follow our school rules by being respectful and working hard to achieve his best in Phonics. Keep up the good work, Seb!
Ellie: Ellie always makes a keen effort in working hard to achieve her best. Not only will Ellie make sure she has completed her work to her full potential, Ellie will often offer to help those around her too. It has been fantastic to see your confidence grow, as well as your enthusiasm in learning. Well done, Ellie.
Year 2
Arthur - Arthur is making really good progress in all areas of the curriculum because he works hard to achieve high standards during tasks and activities. He was especially brilliant during PE with Club Foundation this week. Keep it up, Arthur!
Oscar M - Oscar is a fabulous role model to everyone in all aspects of school life. He embodies our school rules and values. He knows the true value of working hard to achieve and demonstrates this in every lesson every day. This week especially, he has truly blown my socks off! Well done Oscar.
Year 3
Jenson - Jenson has been working really hard recently, he is really trying in all lessons, he has grown in confidence. Jenson is putting his hand up more and answering questions in class and becoming more vocal in group work. Jenson has worked hard with his reading and writing and has produced a great piece of writing.
Maddison M - Maddison has worked very hard within lessons to do her best and overcome any challenges that she has faced within her work. Maddison has worked really hard within choir practice and learnt all the words and actions to all the songs ready for Young Voices.
Year 4
Rory - Rory has shown how hard he works in all of our lessons this week. He completes his work to a high standard and is very careful when going back over his work to make improvements. Rory has worked incredibly hard to learn his times tables and regularly scores 25 out of 25!
Hermione - Hermione has shown how hard she works in all of our lessons this week. She completes every piece of work neatly and to a very high standard. Hermione has worked incredibly hard to learn her times tables and she regularly scores 25 out of 25!
Year 5
This week in school, we have been focussing on working hard to achieve. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 5 have been chosen with this in mind.
The children who have been chosen this week have been working hard since September and this week their hard work has paid off; they have achieved something amazing. You should all be so very proud of yourself. We are extremely proud of the hard work that you have put in and what you have achieved.
Well done to Elsie, Sophie, Ava B, Gracie-Leigh, Ava L, Zara, Esme, Bella, Gracie-Mae, Lucy and Elodie. Your performance at Young Voices was amazing!
Year 6
Our focus this week through school, has been on one of our school rules: work hard. We have been noticing, in particular, those children who work hard in every lesson in order to achieve the very best that they can. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with that in mind.
Caitlyn - Caitlyn has worked hard this term in all lessons and, as a result, is making great progress. In maths in particular, she is working hard to apply the strategies that she knows in arithmetic lessons and, coupled with her new-found confidence, this has led to a huge improvement in her arithmetic scores. I am so proud of how hard you work Caitlyn and of how well you are achieving.
Leo - Leo has worked hard this week in lessons to check his work to ensure that it has been completed to the very best of his ability. He has taken more time to check his work to ensure that it is accurate, particularly in maths, and this has resulted in fewer errors. I am proud of how hard you have worked this week Leo and all that you have achieved as a result of this - keep it up!
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week’s superstar award goes to Joseph in Year 2. Joseph always works hard and tries his very best in everything he does. He is also an absolute delight to have in school as he has amazing manners, is so kind and caring and always tries to brighten everyone's day. Thank you Joseph for just being a superstar - we are very lucky to have you here at Mayflower.
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign that the children will be learning next week.

Please remember we are a nut-free school
We have noticed again this week that some children are bringing food containing nuts into school in their packed lunches. Please re-familiarise yourselves with the following information, as we are a nut free school here at Bawtry Mayflower.
We currently have children throughout school with a range of allergies and are a nut free school. People who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
If someone has a nut allergy, it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has had nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger anaphylactic shock (which can cause breathing and swallowing difficulties).
Most staff members in the school are trained to use Epi-pens (an injection of adrenalin) which are required immediately if this happens. School also has emergency Epi-pens in the event that a child’s Epi-pen fails.
We cannot have nuts in school in any form so please can we ask that you do not put nut products in your child’s lunch box or that no nut products are brought into school as a snack.
For example:
- Peanut butter sandwiches
- Chocolate spreads
- Cereal bars
- Some granola bars
- Cakes that contain nuts
- Biscuits / Cookies that contain nuts
- Peanut butter cakes
This list is not exhaustive, so please check the packaging of products closely. We appreciate that this is an additional thing to check but we know that you will recognise the importance of it.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff.
Dinners/packed lunches
Our Midday Supervisors have noticed this week that some children have been sharing food with their friends. We know they are only being kind in doing so; however, could you please speak to your child about not doing this as we do have a number of children in school who have allergies/intolerances to certain foods.
PTA Meeting Monday 26th February
Our PTA will be holding a meeting next Monday and they would love to see some new faces! They will be running through the events planned for the rest of the year and always appreciate a little extra help - whether it’s volunteering at a shop, organising raffle prizes, or helping to make stalls for their summer fair!
Coming to a meeting doesn’t commit you to the PTA forever, and they'll never ask you for more than you can give. Every bit of help means they can continue to raise funds and give the children more amazing memories.
The meeting will be held at our Chairs house - please message Kirsty Ellis via Facebook or on 07787 570844 if you’re able to attend.
New members of our Mayflower family!
On Monday, there was a real buzz of excitement in school as our eggs, from which we were hopeful that chicks would hatch, were delivered. The eggs were placed in the incubator and we all held our breath waiting for the first chick to hatch. Some of the children came to see the eggs and talked through what would happen once the chicks had hatched and how we would look after the newest members of our school!
We didn't have to wait long, as the first chicks hatched overnight so when everyone came to school on Tuesday morning 3 chicks had already been born! Slowly but surely over the rest of that day and into Wednesday, more of the chicks hatched. We now have 9 beautiful chicks (5 girls and 4 boys).
All the children have visited the chicks this week and had an opportunity to hold the chicks. There will be more chances to have cuddles with the chicks next week, before they are collected on Friday to go back to their farm.
PE Superstars!
Some of our children were presented with Doncaster Rovers Club Foundation tops this week, as they were chosen as being the PE superstars of last term. They were chosen by Alex and Lee, the Club Foundation coaches and were chosen for their hard work, determination, excellent manners and excellent attitudes. Well done!
Young Voices
On Wednesday, our Choir headed off to Sheffield Utilita Arena just after lunch to prepare for that evening's Young Voices concert. They had a rehearsal when they arrived and then had time to eat their tea before getting back into their seats in the arena waiting for the start of the concert. Their parents/carers had a fantastic view of the children, as they were sitting directly in front of the stage just in front of where the children were sitting.
The children, staff and parents/carers had an amazing time as always! It is such a wonderful experience and it's so special to watch the children's faces and see them beaming as they're performing. One of the highlights for the children was seeing MC Grammar perform and the children treated some staff to a rap they had learnt especially for the concert.
It goes without saying that the staff who accompanied the children had nothing but praise for their behaviour and enthusiasm at the concert. It is always so special to take children to events such as this and the day was made even more enjoyable for everyone with the impeccable behaviour of those who took part. Well done everyone!
Craft Fun!
Our craft after school club children are really enjoying sharing with everyone what they have been making in craft club each week. Here are this week's delights.
Girlguiding Thinking Day
Yesterday was Girlguiding Thinking Day, when thoughts are centred on girls around the world. We had asked for children who were part of a Rainbow, Brownie or Guide pack to come in their uniform to celebrate the day. Our children love being part of events like this and were very proud to wear their Rainbow, Brownie or Guide uniforms.
Congratulations!
Thomas in Year 1 has recently been awarded a Certificate of Achievement in his swimming lessons. Well done Thomas - we think we've celebrated one of your swimming successes on one of our previous blogs and are sure it won't be long before we're celebrating your next achievement. Well done!
Upcoming PTA events
Please see below details of the upcoming PTA events for the rest of this school year. In addition to these, our PTA will also be holding their Mothers Day Shop on Friday 8th March and there will be discos on Thursday 4th July (posters to follow for these).
