Attendance information from Mrs Powell

All the staff here and I are hugely aware that attendance plays a huge part in your child's learning and here at Bawtry Mayflower, we are striving to provide the children with the best start in life they can have and to do this they need to be in school and in their lessons.

Good attendance is classed as 97% and above

How can you help keep your child's attendance as high as possible?

Be on time!

Being more than half an hour late means we have to record your child as missing a full session which means it looks like they have not been in all morning even though they have been in for most of it! It also means they have missed an important start to their lessons that day.

Booking appointments

If you cannot avoid appointments on school days, then please try to book them for an afternoon and for as late as possible. This means they do get a mark for the afternoon session even if they have to leave a little earlier.

Holidays
No holidays will be authorised in school time without exceptional circumstances, and fines will be issued if they meet criteria.

Feeling Unwell

If your child isn't feeling quite 100% or something is bothering them, please do send them into school and we will keep a close eye on them and/or will have the opportunity to discuss with them their worries or concerns. We often see that they do perk up and feel better, but if not, school will contact you straight away. Not mentioning this in front of them will also help as they won't get upset and want to go home straight away. If your child is too unwell to attend, please contact the office as soon as possible to confirm this absence.

I do appreciate your support with this, and if you have any questions or concerns please contact me to discuss them.

News from Year 1/2

Year 1 and 2 have had a busy week of learning. The children have been scientists identifying and sorting plants on our nature walk, discovering and exploring a sculpture artist called Joan Miro and completing our class science investigation where the children had to guess what object is in the box. We have also been learning all things addition in maths and looking at different representations of addition.

Nut Free School

We currently have children throughout school with a range of allergies and are a nut free school. People who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

If someone has a nut allergy, it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has had nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger anaphylactic shock (which can cause breathing and swallowing difficulties).

Most staff members in the school are trained to use Epi-pens (an injection of adrenalin) which are required immediately if this happens. School also has emergency Epi-pens in the event that a child’s Epi-pen fails.

We cannot have nuts in school in any form so please can we ask that you do not put nut products in your child’s lunch box or that no nut products are brought into school as a snack.

For example:

  • Peanut butter sandwiches
  • Chocolate spreads
  • Cereal bars
  • Some granola bars
  • Cakes that contain nuts
  • Biscuits / Cookies that contain nuts
  • Peanut butter cakes

This list is not exhaustive, so please check the packaging of products closely. We appreciate that this is an additional thing to check but we know that you will recognise the importance of it.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff.

Congratulations!

James in Year 2 has been very busy lately! He attended Scrooby Show recently and won some rosettes for dog handling. Well done James! He has also been busy making a hedgehog shelter. He gave the hedgehog some wet dog food and some water. What a brilliant thing to do James - you obviously love your animals!

Maddison in Year 2 was recently awarded a certificate and trophy for her gymnastics. Well done Maddison - you are really working hard. Your family and everyone at Mayflower is really proud of you!

Sadie in Year 1 took part in her very first gymnastics competition last weekend. She thoroughly enjoyed it and obviously worked really hard to be awarded with a rosette. Well done Sadie - what a fantastic achievement for someone in Year 1. You should be really proud of yourself!
