Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
Rio in Nursery has been a super star this week. He has been doing brilliant sitting and listening on the carpet. He is great at knowing where he needs to be and what he needs to be doing and just gets on without any fuss. Rio is being a really good friend to the other children in the class and is making some lovely friendships. Well done Rio!
Our star this week in Reception is Hugo. He has been an amazing mathematician giving reasons for his answers during our maths discussions and group work. He has also supported his friends by showing them how to use a part part whole to show number bonds to 5. Hugo has shown his imagination this week creating pirate ships and trains in the construction area outside making sure he has included his friends in the process. Hugo has also been a huge help at tidy up time figuring out how to put everything away which can be quite a challenge! Well done Hugo 🙂
Year 1
Hugo - Hugo was a superstar on our school trip this week! He wholeheartedly joined in with every activity and bravely answered questions that the museum staff asked. He showed us that he is a fountain of knowledge! Hugo was a shining example of how incredible the children at Bawtry Mayflower are, and the museum staff were so impressed. Well done, Hugo!
Otis - this week in school, we have been thinking about being courageous. Otis showed a great deal of courage on our school trip this week as he not only joined in with the workshops brilliantly, but he also bravely asked the museum staff lots of incredible questions about the artefacts . Asking questions can be difficult, but Otis has such a thirst for knowledge that he always tries to find out as much as he can! What a superstar, Otis!
Year 2
This week, we have been thinking about being courageous: taking risks and standing up for what is right. It has been really difficult to choose only 2 stars, as there have been so many examples of children showing real courage in their work and behaviours - so we have chosen 3 stars!
Mia and Jacob - for being courageous enough to try and solve our missing number deeper challenges in maths. They may not have found the right answer first time, but they did not give up and were not worried about trying lots of different ways of finding the solutions all by themselves. Amazing work, Mia and Jacob!
Daniel - for being courageous in making new friendships and playing new games. He has also demonstrated true empathy towards other children by looking after them and consoling them when they were feeling unhappy. You are a true friend and a lovely person, Daniel.
Year 3
This week, Year 3 went on a school visit to the National Coal Mining Museum. Their behaviour was exceptional and they really proved that doing it "The Mayflower Way" pays off! The staff and volunteers at the museum commented on how polite and respectful the children were. They were blown away with their subject knowledge and said they were a real credit to their parents and the school. Therefore, this week I have decided to give the star of the week certificate to ALL of Year 3!
Year 4
Archie - Archie has shown how courageous he is during many lessons this week. He has shared ideas confidently and explained how to improve similes. His imagination and choice of vocabulary when writing poems inspired the rest of the class. Well done Archie!
Maddison M - Maddison has worked hard this week in class. She has been determined to present her work to a very high standard and showed huge courage when asked to improve her work even more, which she did amazingly well!
Year 5
Katie demonstrates courage on a daily basis; she is not deterred by setbacks and perseveres through difficult tasks. She will confidently tell someone if she has problems doing her work and always listens to feedback, which will take her learning further.
Rory's courage is growing by the day. He is much more willing to put his ideas forward in whole class discussions and he is beginning to show courage by asking for help when he needs it. He is developing his resilience and beginning to understand that he can learn from his mistakes.
Year 6
This week in school, Mrs Powell's assembly was about Martin Luther King Jr. The children learnt about being inspired to be courageous, taking action and remembering that 'The time is always right to do the right thing'. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Freddie - Freddie has a strong moral compass and understands right from wrong. He demonstrates this on a daily basis, making the right decisions and walking away from situations where others might not be doing the same thing. He is not afraid to stand up for what he knows is right and to speak out against actions that may have hurt his feelings or the feelings of others. This is such a wonderful trait to have Freddie.
Cameron - Cameron demonstrates courage on a daily basis through her actions. She knows right from wrong and is not afraid to voice her views when she thinks that others are not making the right choices. She walks away from situations and behaviours that she knows are wrong, ensuring that she does not involve herself in things that may lead to negative consequences. What a fantastic role model you are.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
This week's award goes to Sadie in Year 3. Sadie is always the very best version of herself that she can be every day. She is a delight to have in school and is an excellent role model for everyone in school. Well done Sadie!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Prostrike Fundraising Event
We are really looking forward to our Prostrike sponsored event which takes place on Wednesday 5th February during the school day. Your child should have brought home a sponsor form for this event last week - if they didn't and you would like one, please speak to your child's class teacher.
On the day of the event, we would like all children to come to school in their PE kits and trainers please.
Sponsorship money should be paid online please. There is a QR code on the sponsor form to enable you to do this. The deadline for all sponsor money to be paid online is Sunday 9th February at 11.59pm.
The week after the event, we will receive details of how much each child has raised and what prizes they are due to receive. The prizes will then be delivered to school and will be taken to class for the children to bring home.
The more money the children raise, the more prizes they win. School will also receive 50% of the total sponsorship money raised.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Please note the course is for adults only and no child care for younger children will be available.
Support for parents/carers
As a school, we are committed to supporting all aspects of our children’s wellbeing and know that the relationships that we have with our families provides the strongest starting point for our children. We also know that sometimes parents/carers want to speak with school but can find it difficult to find the time or that sometimes just picking up the phone can be daunting.
At school we have a dedicated inclusion team who are here to support all aspects of the pastoral and mental health and wellbeing needs of our school community as well as support with any Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND). Mrs Westerman (Family Manager/Pastoral Lead) and I, would like to offer parents/carers the opportunity to book dedicated time to discuss any worries or concerns.
These will be 30 minute sessions, available to book through School Spider, our usual parents evening booking system, that will happen on the last Tuesday morning of every month. The sessions are an opportunity for you to discuss any concerns you may have regarding your child's needs or family circumstances. Our team is dedicated to providing support, guidance, and signposting to additional resources if needed. The first sessions will be Tuesday 28th January.
There are no worries or concerns that are too big or too small.
We look forward to meeting with anyone who would like to pop in for a coffee and a chat.
Mrs Walker (Deputy Head)
If you have been unable to book an appointment this time and have something urgent that you would like to discuss that you feel cannot wait until next month's sessions, please either speak to your child's teacher or contact the school office to arrange a call back or meeting with Mrs Walker or Mrs Westerman.

Young Voices Thursday 13th February
The Young Voices team have been in touch to say that the tickets and t-shirts for the upcoming concert on 13th February will be with us soon. As soon as we receive them, we will be in touch with our choir parents/carers.
We will also be sending out information next week regarding the collection of children after the concert. Please remember that the children will need to be collected from Sheffield Utilita Arena after the concert. The information we provide will show parents/carers exactly where to go to wait for the children to come out. Please be patient when waiting; there are lots of schools taking part in the concert so there may be a delay in getting the children back to their parents/carers.
Digital Leaders
Here are our digital leaders, they carried out an important part of their role this week to raise the awareness of internet safety. They put posters up around our school to inform parents and carers about the risks of WHATSAPP.
Here at Bawtry Mayflower we have a saying that we aspire to go by, ' If you can be anything online... Be kind.'
Please click on the file at the bottom of this page to view the poster that our digital leaders have put up around school. We have also included at the bottom of this page another poster which provides some top tips for safety on social media.
Year 3 visit to National Coal Mining Museum
Yesterday, Year 3 visited the National Coal Mining Museum. As part of this, they learned what it would have been like to be a coal miner, the different types of jobs they might have had and the clothing that they would have worn. They also had the opportunity to meet some pit ponies and they went down into the Time Tunnel. The children were exceptionally well-mannered, respectful and inquisitive whilst at the museum, asking some amazing questions to the members of staff. The children have made their teachers proud this week!
Congratulations!
Reuben in Year 2 had a very exciting weekend last weekend. Reuben is part of the PQA performing arts academy and travelled to London with his family to take part in a West End performance at His Majesty's Theatre! It was Reuben's first visit to London and he had a great time. He tried his very best (we wouldn't expect anything else of Reuben!) and remembered all of his songs and dance moves.
Well done Reuben! What an amazing opportunity and a wonderful memory you will have, combining your love of performing arts with your very first trip to London.

Lunch Menu for week commencing 27th January 2025
Please see the menu below for next week. There may need to be last minute changes to the menus on occasion, to take into account availability of items or delivery issues.
Mrs Stanfield's mixer is currently broken, which means that there may be a few changes to the menu over the coming weeks to make things slightly easier for her until she receives a replacement. She will always try to stick to the advertised menus as much as possible and whatever she makes is absolutely delicious! She always knows what the children enjoy so will try to cater accordingly in this interim period until she receives a new mixer.
As it is Chinese New Year, the menu for next week will change slightly to the menu below. The meal choices each day will be as follows:
Monday - as per menu below
Tuesday - as per menu below
Wednesday - Chinese chicken curry, BBQ quorn chicken, egg fried rice, noodles, peas & sweetcorn followed by lemon sponge
Thursday - Wednesday's menu choices from the menu below will be served on this day instead
