5/6A Miss Dunn
Our theme this week has been on 'new beginnings'.
We have talked lots in class about the idea of each day being a new beginning filled with lots of opportunities and choices open to us. Our 5/6A Stars of the Week have been chosen with this in mind.
Erin has really embraced this idea this week. She has come to school each day with a positive mindset and a determination to do even better than the day before. Erin shows the resilience necessary to pick herself up when she encounters problems and to treat each day as an opportunity to learn and grow.
Zach comes to school each day with a smile on his face and a positive, 'can-do' attitude. He recognises that each day is an opportunity to be better and to do better and he pushes himself to do just that, showing the necessary resilience and determination to be successful.
5/6B Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker
Sasha - Sasha had a new beginning at our school back in September, since then her confidence and independence has grown and grown. She uses the resources she has been given to complete tasks with independence and confidence showing great perseverance. Well done Sasha, keep up the hard work!
William - William is trying much harder to complete his work independently, which is great to see. He is much more focused on tasks and he is developing his confidence in unfamiliar situations. Well done William, keep up the hard work!

News from around school
As part of our Ready, Steady Grow topic for this term, the children in Reception have been planting sunflowers and learning all about what a plant needs to be able to grow! We are going to look after them and water them in school over the next couple of weeks, then hopefully we will be able to send then home, so that the children can continue to care for them and watch them grow.
Fascinating Friday!
On last week's blog, we promised we would share some photos from last week's Fascinating Friday Science Day, which was organised by Mrs Davies. Please click on the arrows to the left and right of the Blog image at the top of this page to see what the children got up to - they had a brilliant time!
For Fascinating Friday the children in Nursery and Reception worked in groups and tried four different scientific experiments. They explored bubble mixture and different ways of making bubbles. They also made a rainbow using skittles when the colours diffused in liquid. They were very excited to learn about forces by using a balloon to propel a toy car. They also explored what happened with food colouring when it was mixed with different liquids and washing up liquid.
Year 3/4 wanted to explain more about some of the activities for us.
Optical illusion - We had two pieces of card. On one side we drew a fish, on the other a tank. We then stuck them together with a straw in the middle. We then spun the straw between our hands. When we did this it created the illusion that the fish was in the bowl.
Pop a Balloon - We had to find a way to inflate the balloon using coca-cola, vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and popping candy. We tried different mixtures with these 4 ingredients to see which ones made our balloon inflate the most.
Skittle rainbow - We created a circle of skittles on a plate. We then added warm water. The water then dissolved the shell of the skittles, pulling the colouring from them to create a rainbow on our plate.
Mrs Davies also ran a Kitchen Sink Science Fair after school last Friday, which was thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by those who took part.
Recognition Board Success
Congratulations to the children below who have received their Recognition badges from Mrs Powell recently. They all got their names under all 3 categories on the Recognition board - Work Hard, Be Kind and Be Respectful. Well done everyone!
If your child has been awarded with their Recognition Badge recently and hasn't yet appeared on one of our Friday blogs, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and we will make sure we celebrate their success on one of our future blogs.
Allotment Fun!
This week, KS1 have been to visit the new allotment. The have investigated all the different areas such as the wildflower garden, and the fruit trees and the planters. They have decided what they would like to plant and we are looking forward to growing potatoes, cucumbers, carrots and lots of different flowers!
Congratulations!
Logan in Year 2 recently scored his first ever goal for his team. Logan normally plays in goal or defence. Logan was so proud to score a goal. He also got player of the match for his hard work. Well done Logan! Your family are super proud of you and everyone at Mayflower is too! You are amazing!
Lily in Year 4, her brother Jack in Year 3 and Vinnie in Year 4 had their gradings yesterday in Martial Arts and were awarded with their new belts and certificates too. Well done to all 3 of you - what an amazing achievement! Keep up the hard work and we look forward to sharing your next success on one of our future blogs.

Doncaster Council's Household Support Fund
Doncaster Council has asked us to share the following information with our parents/carers.
The City of Doncaster Council has been provided with funding of £5,978,546.15 from the Government’s Household Support Fund for the period 01/04/23 to 31/03/24.
A decision has been made to pay £15 per week per child for food for the Easter Holidays, a total of £30 per child.
The eligibility criteria is that the parent/carer of the dependant child is receiving at least one of the following;
- Universal Credit that includes the Housing Allowance
- Housing Benefit
- Local Council Tax Reduction
- Means-Tested Free School Meals.
This payment will be administered by the City of Doncaster Council’s Benefits Team, schools are not required to issue vouchers.
We will use our existing records to check that those who received a food award for children under the previous Household Support Fund still meet the above qualifying criteria.
If their circumstances remain the same we will make a payment automatically direct into their bank, using the details we already hold.
We do not require an application in these circumstances and this payment will be sent during April.
We will make an application form available in due course for those who did not receive a payment from the previous fund, but who now meet the above criteria.
Details of how the remaining funding is to be spent will be communicated in due course and our website will be updated accordingly.
