Half Term next week

We hope everyone has a fantastic half term next week. Don't forget that Monday 3rd June and Tuesday 4th June are training days and school is therefore closed to pupils on those days.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back into school on Wednesday 5th June.

Attendance

Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week Mrs Davies' class had the highest attendance with 97.22%! Well done Year 2!

Please see below for the attendance figures for this week. The target attendance for all children is currently set at 97%.

Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.

Nursery & Reception

Nursery - Hugo for having a grown up attitude towards school this week. He is trying really hard, doing good listening and being really helpful to the grown ups and his friends.

Reception - Fox for being a superstar! He has worked hard in all areas of his learning this term especially phonics.  He has also tried incredibly hard this week to do his best listening and be a kind friend.

Year 1

Ellie always has an awareness of others around her and how they might be feeling, however this week she showed exceptional empathy when another child was upset.  She noticed this, caring for and looking after the child, and trying to make sure that they were feeling happier.

Seren loves to help people and her kind and empathetic nature means she often looks after other children in our class who need that extra help and support. She does this by supporting them with their work if she can see that they are struggling or by helping them come in from the playground at the end of break and lunch.

Year 2

Logan and Keira - although they may be the quieter members of our class, Logan and Keira are two of the loveliest people in our school. They always show kindness and respect to others. It is truly wonderful to see them support and care for others. They understand how people are feeling and show empathy toward them. They are always ready with a smile, a kind word or a hug. Thank you for being wonderful, Logan and Keira.

Year 3

Rose - Rose is a superstar in many ways but one thing that has stood out about Rose over the last few weeks is her empathy. Rose is quick to react when her peers aren’t ok, she understands why people may experience and feel different emotions and always tries to make people smile when they need it most.

Belle - Belle is a kind and caring member of our class. If ever anyone is upset or sad you can guarantee Belle will be there with her arm around them trying to make them feel better. Belle is very selfless and often puts other people's feelings before her own. Belle goes above and beyond to make sure everyone in our class is happy, she truly is a great friend to all.

Year 4

Amelie - Amelie has shown how kind and caring she is all year, but this week we have particularly noticed how she cared for others when they were hurt or upset. Amelie always looks out for other children and she helps and supports anyone who she notices needs it.

Quentin - Quentin is a fantastic support to other children on his table. He has worked with others on their sounds and helps them to follow instructions. Quentin always stands up for other people, he notices when someone is upset and always does his best to help them.

Year 5

Being empathetic.

Elodie always considers the feelings of others; often putting others before herself. She sees things from other people's point of view and will thoughtfully listen to other people's thoughts and opinions. She is a fantastic role model and friend to her peers.

Rose is good at really listening to what others have to say. People often tell her about their problems, and she willingly offers support and guidance to them. Rose is good at picking up on how other people are feeling and will offer comfort and support to those who need it. Rose is a lovely friend to all.

Year 6

The focus across school for the final week of this half term has been on empathy. Adults have been looking out, in particular, for those children who show empathy to others through their actions and words. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind:

Ella - Ella shows empathy towards others in all she does; she is very aware of the feelings of others and notices when someone might not be feeling quite themselves. She goes out of her way to ask other children and adults how they are and is genuinely interested in their replies. Ella ends every day with a smile and kind comment such as, "Have a good evening," or "I hope you have a lovely weekend." She really does make our classroom a warmer and kinder place to be.

Layla - Layla comes into school every day with a positive attitude and a warm smile which instantly puts her friends at ease and makes them smile. She shows empathy towards all members of the class - adults included - by checking in on people and asking how they are. Layla shows a genuine interest in the feelings and emotions of others and she treats everyone with care, compassion and understanding.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.

This week’s superstar award goes to Fox. He has made so many people in school enjoy their week that little bit more with his big smile and happy personality. He even asked our special visitors how they were and told them to have a lovely day! Such wonderful improvement in attitude and learning this term. Well done Fox! 🦊

Nut Free School

We have recently noticed that some children are bringing items in their packed lunches which contain nuts (Kinder Happy Hippos etc). We wanted to remind parents/carers that we do have children throughout school with a range of allergies, including nut allergies, and are a nut free school. People who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

If someone has a nut allergy, it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has had nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger anaphylactic shock (which can cause breathing and swallowing difficulties).

Most staff members in the school are trained to use Epi-pens (an injection of adrenalin) which are required immediately if this happens. School also has emergency Epi-pens in the event that a child’s Epi-pen fails.

We cannot have nuts in school in any form so please can we ask that you do not put nut products in your child’s lunch box or that no nut products are brought into school as a snack.

For example:

  • Peanut butter sandwiches
  • Chocolate spreads
  • Cereal bars
  • Some granola bars
  • Cakes that contain nuts
  • Biscuits / Cookies that contain nuts
  • Peanut butter cakes

This list is not exhaustive, so please check the packaging of products closely. We appreciate that this is an additional thing to check but we know that you will recognise the importance of it.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff.

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Example of items are smellies, sweets, soft toys etc. Could the children please bring in their donations on Friday 7th June.

Big Talk Education Tuesday 18th June

To keep children as safe as possible Relationship Education is now statutory in all Primary Schools, we are engaging the support of the specialist organisation BigTalk Education, who are a Social Enterprise recognised by national lead bodies and Government. They will be coming into school on Tuesday 18th June to work with all the children across school.

They work with 3yr olds upwards and have been involved in delivering age-appropriate education of this type for over 20 years.

Below is some information on the Growing Up Safe programme that will be delivered to the Children.

* Age 3 (Nursery). A fun learning environment where the children are taught: the differences between boys and girls, naming body parts, correct scientific words, private areas of the body, good touches and bad touches.

  • Ages 4 to 8 (Reception School Years 1, 2 & 3) Re-enforces and checks what was covered in Nursery. Using specially designed child friendly resources at the end of this session they will be able to identify happy situations within relationships, and those which may be risky (e.g., other children or adults taking improper photographs of them, inappropriate touches, exposure to unsuitable media etc.) Plus, whom they can talk to if they are worried.
  • Ages 8 to 9 (School Year 4) We cover different kinds of families, similarities and differences between boys and girls, the emotional and physical changes of growing up (puberty) how babies are made, then develop in the womb etc. (reproduction). Also discussed is, how to look after our bodies and be safe and healthy.
  • Ages 9 to 11 (School Years 5 & 6) Reproduction and puberty are re-capped, the children are given the opportunity to ask questions. As well as additional clarification on puberty, they will often want more details on how babies develop and are born. It is important that they know there is someone in school as well as at home if they want help, advice or more information etc. (Information at this stage is vital to protect them as they move onto Secondary School and to provide an alternative to Google etc.

All the resources BigTalk Education use are age appropriate and help keep children protected from unwanted touches, abuse, and exposure to unsuitable images etc.

Further information on the above can be found on: www.bigtalkeducation.co.uk/parents

The new video Parent presentations https://www.bigtalkeducation.co.uk/year-by-year/ will be on our school blog and we will circulate the password via ParentPay email one week prior to Big Talk's visit.

In addition, “Bodies, Babies and Bellybuttons” is the BigTalk book which accompanies the Growing Up Safe programme. This is a great resource for parents and can be ordered online from www.bigtalkeducation.co.uk on our Resources page.

Should you require any further information BigTalk Education can be contacted on admin@bigtalkeducation.co.uk.

Our Year 6 children are proudly wearing their Leavers Hoodies now and we're sure you agree they look very smart in them. From past experience, their hoodies will now be on every day even if the temperatures soar!

Congratulations!

We mentioned this in a previous blog, but our Year 1 children are certainly superstar swimmers! This week, Emilia in Year 1 shared with us that she recently received another certificate for her swimming. Emilia told us that 'it was easy dunking under the water to get fish with numbers on'. Well done Emilia!

Rose in Year 5 gave up her day last Saturday to run a stall at an event at Bawtry New Hall which was raising funds to support those with Alzheimers. Rose and her nan ran the tombola stall and Rose said that it was a very popular stall and she was kept very busy throughout the day. There were over one hundred prizes! Rose's cousin Leo, in Year 6, also helped for part of the day.

There were lots of other stalls at the event. The tombola stall raised over £140 and overall the event raised a considerable amount of money, which will be very gratefully received by the charity.

Well done Rose and Leo for being so kind and caring and giving up your time to fundraise.

Half Term Activities

The Trans Pennine Trail Kids Half term activity pack is available free for parents and carers to download.

The pack is aimed at primary school children with help as necessary from their parents or carers, and older children may enjoy some of the activities too.

The activity pack can be used ‘on the go’ by downloading it to a mobile or can be printed at home.

Taekwondo Sessions

We welcomed Bawtry Scorpion Taekwondo into school this morning. Lots of our children are part of the club and performed a brilliant demonstration of their skills as part of our morning assembly. They were amazing and obviously put in a lot of hard work during their sessions each week. Please see below the details for the club if you are interested in your child taking part.

Lunch Menu for week commencing 3rd June 2024

Please see the menu below for the first week back after half term. There may need to be last minute changes to the menus on occasion, to take into account availability of items or delivery issues.

As the new menus are now in place, Mrs Stanfield our school cook has monitored which meals the children enjoy and which aren't so popular. As a result, she has made adjustments to this week's menu.
