Attendance
Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week Mrs Ronan/Mrs McAllister's class had the highest attendance with 99.52%. Well done Year 1!
Please see below for the attendance figures for this week. The target attendance for all children is currently set at 97%.
Nursery - 95%

Celebrating fantastic attendance!
The children are speeding along now with gathering all the letters from the word MAYFLOWER! As you are aware, each class with 100% attendance on a particular day will receive one letter from the word MAYFLOWER to put on their classroom door. Once a class has spelt out the word MAYFLOWER, a member of the class will bring all their letters down to the office to claim their prize from our box of Awesome Attendance Activities!
Please see below where each class stands at the end of today:

Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.
Nursery & Reception
Dahlia in Nursery has been a superstar in Read Write Inc, this week she is becoming more confident with the sounds that she knows and is even beginning to hear a word when it is in Fred Talk! Well done Dahlia!
Luke in Reception for being a superstar in all areas of learning this week. He has tried his best in Maths, Read Write Inc, Spelling and Writing! Mrs Ward has been really proud of him, he has put in lots of effort and you can see the progress that he has made. Fantastic Luke!
Year 1
Sam for making some excellent contributions in Science this week and really impressing Mrs Ronan by showing courage with his willingness to share his ideas.
Connor for showing lots of courage in terms of 'having a go' in Read, Write, Inc especially in a group of lots of older Year 2 children.
Year 2
James - James is not always the most confident person and he sometimes underestimates just how amazing he is. He has shown real courage in his learning recently and tries his very best in absolutely everything he does. We are so proud of you, James.
Isabella - Isabella sometimes lacks confidence to share her ideas and try new concepts without support. However, she has developed a new found courage recently and is even proving herself to be an invaluable buddy for another member of the class. Well done, Isabella. You are a star!
Year 3
Fletcher - Fletcher has had a fantastic week, he has overcome difficulties numerous times this week in a mature and independent way which has meant he has shown courage to step outside of his comfort zone. He has stood up for what is right this week on numerous occasions, not only for himself but his peers too.
Kiera - Kiera has show resilience and courage this week within her work. During our maths lessons Kiera has stepped out of her comfort zone, been involved in class discussions and explaining her reasoning behind the answers to her questions. Well done Kiera.
Year 4
Jack - Jack has shown he has the courage to stand up for people and to speak out about behaviour that goes against our school rules. This has had a positive impact on the rest of the children and Jack has set an excellent example for others to follow.
Seth - Seth has been an excellent example to other children in class this week, showing them how to follow our school rules to be respectful and listen carefully. He has shown he has the courage to give reminders to other children and show them what is right.
Year 5
On residential all of the children stepped out of their comfort zones and pushed themselves to their limits, giving everything a go. They were determined and resilient and I'm so proud of each and every one of them. Well done Year 5! Your behaviour was impeccable, and you have made myself and your school proud!
Year 6
This week across school, our focus has been on one of our important Learning Powers: Be courageous; the adults in school have been looking out for those children who have been showing courage through their actions. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Jack - Jack has had a fantastic week this week in school; he has shown courage in all lessons to contribute to discussions, answer questions and share his thoughts and ideas. He is not afraid to make mistakes and is open to feedback when he does to ensure that his work is the best that it can be. Jack has been courageous in whole class situations to make the right choices, when others around him might be making different choices, and he has really stood out this week as a positive role model.
Brione - Brione is a determined, courageous learner who will give any lesson her full attention and effort. She is not afraid to tackle difficult challenges and she does so with a smile. Brione approaches all feedback with a positive attitude and views it as a way to make progress rather than a mistake that she has made. Her growing confidence in herself is a joy to see.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
My Superstar award this week goes to Brione in Year 6 AND Sam in Year 1 as I could not pick between the two (and funnily enough they both got Star of the Week for similar reasons too!) This week we focussed on our learning power #be courageous and both children have truly fulfilled this in their classes this term.
Brione, you are so courageous in your attitude to your learning and work. You always give it your best shot and push yourself out of your comfort zone to attempt new concepts and learning. Miss Dunn and I are so proud of your courage to be the best that you can be in everything including being a ‘best’ friend to others too.
Sam, you try so hard every day and everyone in school is so proud of your progress with all that has tried to stand in your way. You are such a joy to have in our school and you really do show us how to be courageous in our own ways! Thank you!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign that the children will be learning next week.

Consultation on the school day
As advised in my letter last Friday, in March 2022 the Government introduced a non-statutory expectation of a 32.5 hour minimum core school week by September 2023. In July 2023 the deadline to meet this expectation was deferred to September 2024 at the latest, in recognition of the pressures facing schools. Our school will need to change the opening hours to pupils from Reception to Year 6 as follows:

We are undertaking a consultation on these changes to hours. I appreciate that these changes may affect you, in terms of childcare or working arrangements. Therefore, I would like to invite you to give your feedback by writing to myself with any points you wish to be taken into consideration as part of the consultation before Friday 3rd May 2024. Following the period of consultation I will confirm the revised opening hours by Friday 17th May 2024. I appreciate your support to help us meet this statutory requirement.
Mrs Lisa Powell (Headteacher)

Bag2School Clothing Collection
Thank you to those who donated bags of clothes etc for our Bag2School clothing collection this morning. There were a massive amount of bags received and we raised £84. Our PTA will add this amount to their funds to enable our children to have additional activities in school.
Year 5 residential to Caythorpe
Our Year 5 children went on their residential to Caythorpe Court PGL Centre at the beginning of this week. They were there from Monday until Wednesday and had the most fabulous time! They couldn't wait to share their experience with us when they returned. Here are some of their thoughts.
Gracie- Leigh - we shared rooms and got to be with our friends. Sharing rooms was different to being at home. My favourite activity was the big swing it was so much fun. I went to the top and then when you dropped it was an amazing feeling in your tummy, like being on a rollercoaster because your tummy dropped. Even when I didn't want to do something, the PGL staff comforted me and said it was ok and I could do it. When I did it they congratulated me, which made me very happy. The food was amazing! When you got your meal you got quite a lot. There was a salad bar. At breakfast you could get toast and cereal and they had a big variety of food to choose from.
Vinnie A - My favourite activity was the high ropes. It was scary at first but then the further you went it was really fun and was like parkour.
Ava B - I enjoyed the canoeing - it wasn't one of the scariest activities which is why I enjoyed it. There were 2 people in each canoe and you could choose who you were with. The instructors asked us to think of a dance and then we had to do the dance in the canoes. We had to surf in the canoes too. We had the choice to jump in the water - I didn't, as I didn't want to get wet!
The children we spoke to all agreed that the PGL staff were nice, kind and fun. They made the children feel really safe and calm.
Thank you to Mrs Pickersgill, Mrs Twidle, Mrs Sturrock and Mrs Westerman for accompanying the children on their residential. The staff said that the children were fantastic, gave everything a go and were amazing! We hope that the children will have long lasting special memories of their time at Caythorpe.
Can you help with our allotment?
We are very lucky here at Bawtry Mayflower to have an allotment area that the children can use for some of their learning. However, the allotment takes a lot of upkeep and we are really struggling with this. Our gardening club, run by Lauren and Lindsay from our PTA, worked wonders and we want to keep the momentum going.
Can you spare a little bit of time on a Wednesday after school from 3pm to 4pm to come and help with the allotment? Green fingers are not necessary! Any help given would be greatly appreciated and it doesn't have to be a weekly commitment, just as and when you can. The main jobs to be done are weeding, planting, pruning, tidying, digging and fixing anything that needs it. In return we can provide a warm drink and some biscuits.
If you can help, please come to the school office to sign in first so we know you are on site. Thank you in advance if you are able to support us with this.
No Tea & Talk Wednesday 15th May
We wanted to advise families that there will be no Tea & Talk session on Wednesday 15th June, due to it being SATs week that week. Of course, if you have any concerns or worries that you would like to speak to school about, as always please see your child's class teacher, Mrs Westerman (our Family Manager) or Mrs Powell.
Congratulations!
Our Year 1 children have been very busy in their out of school activities recently. Blu-Belle swam 5 metres on her front without a float. She is very proud of herself - well done Blu-Belle!
Ellie told us "I swam on my front 10m with no help in the deep end. It was hard"
Mia shared with us that "I did hard work in ballet and dancing and very good listening".
