Year 1 also completed 'Mayflower' for the fourth time today, so will be voting on which treat to have in class next week. Fantastic Year 1 - well done!
Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who was chosen last week (as a blog wasn't published last week due to issues with our website) and who has been chosen this week, together with the reasons for them being chosen.
Nursery & Reception
This week's star of the week go to:
Bethany in Nursery for doing great maths work this week, she was brilliant at working out one more than in her small group work. She was very proud of herself and tried really hard.
Kingsley in Nursery for joining in with his adult and doing some super painting alongside his friends. He stayed at the activity for a long time.
Aaron in Reception for producing a fantastic self-portrait. He worked hard to first draw and then paint himself. He focused on his facial features and mixing the paint together.
Year 1
Sam for being really responsible and sensible when going to his RWI group. He asks politelty if we can open the appropriate doors so that he can get where he needs to be. He stands and waits patiently for his adult and he always remembers to take his RWI pack with him.
Henry for taking responsibility of his own learning by always doing his homework, always reading at home and always practising his spellings so that he gets 100% on his spelling tests.
Year 2
James - for always taking responsibility for his own learning and behaviour. James has become an absolute superstar in our class. He is eager to learn and always tries his best. He has overcome his worries about learning and is producing some amazing work. He has done all of this because he has taken responsibility for his own self-improvement and he believes in himself. Well done James!
Sadie - for taking responsibility for not only being the very best she can be but also for helping the class to be the very best they can be. She tries hard with all her work and is willing to help others. She quietly and conscientiously demonstrates our school values. She is a star. Well done, Sadie!
Year 3
James - James has really stood out recently for all the right reasons. James has had a great attitude to learning and took responsibility for his learning. He is asking what he can do to take his work to the next level and acting on feedback and improving his work when needed. James takes responsibility for his learning environment and always ensures he has the equipment he needs to complete his work to the best of his ability.
Jesse - Jesse has been a great example of our school rules this week. He has worked very hard in maths, tried really hard with his writing and shared his ideas with peers. Jesse has been very helpful in class making sure his table is tidy and he and his peers have what they need for the lesson. Jesse spent some time after his lunch this week stacking chairs which he volunteered to do and the lunchtime staff were very grateful.
Year 4
Charlotte - Charlotte shows how responsible she is in everything she does in class. She works hard and ensures that her own work is the best it can be and she supports other children by taking care of the classroom and ensuring that all resources are handed out, tidy or put away carefully.
Savana - Savana can be trusted to carry out any task asked of her. She is more than happy to help with the organisation of the classroom and always takes responsibility for the equipment in class. Savana works hard in class and makes sure her work is the best it can be.
Year 5
Max - Max understands that hard work leads to success. He has a positive attitude to learning and shows that he is a responsible learner by taking increased ownership of his own learning. He now reviews his own work independently and can identify what he has done well. Keep it up Max!
Elsie - Elsie has a positive attitude to learning and is beginning to take increased ownership of her own learning. Elsie will confidently tell someone if she has problems doing her work and always listens to feedback which will take her learning further. Well done Elsie, keep up the hard work!
Year 6
This week in school, our focus has been on one of our learning powers: Be Responsible. The adults across school have been looking for those children who show responsibility by looking out for others in particular. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind:
Carson - Carson is a responsible member of the class who always shows regard for the feelings of others. He shows good emotional awareness and checks in with his friends when he recognises that they may not be feeling their best. Carson always shows compassion and respect towards all members of our school community - whether this be children, staff members or visitors.
Caitlyn - Caitlyn consistently makes a conscious effort to look out for others; she always asks how people are and is very attuned to the emotions of others. Caitlyn quietly takes responsibility for our school environment; she looks after resources and keeps our classroom neat and tidy.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
My superstar award this week linked to our ‘be responsible’ theme goes to Sophia B in Year 4. Not only has she shown how responsible she can be in protecting our planet by setting up and organising a school compost bin for our allotment, but she demonstrates this every day by always making the right choices and giving 100% focus to her learning. She is an absolute pleasure to sit and have a chat with to brighten up my day! Thank you Sophia for being such a positive role model for others and genuinely caring for everyone as you do.
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Promoting Positive Behaviour
In classes, to support our school rule of ‘be kind’, we have introduced ‘A kind mouth/hand/foot is for …’ resource which provides positive reinforcement around behaviour in and out of class. Some parents have now requested this as a way of supporting with behaviour at home too. If you would like a copy, and/or some information on how this can be implemented as a consistent home/school approach, then please request a copy from the office or your child’s class teacher.
Parking in and around school
We would like to remind parents/carers and other family members that there should be no parking in the school car parks at any time of day please. The car parks are for staff and visitors only. We would also ask that those parking in the streets around school continue to do so respectfully with consideration for those who live on those streets please. Thank you as always for your support with this.
Unclaimed raffle prize from Summer Fair
There was one raffle prize not collected from the Summer Fair - this is a Nando’s gift voucher. The winning ticket is number 429. If you have this ticket, please contact the school office so we can let Kirsty (PTA Chair) know that the prize has been claimed.
Guitar lessons next week
As advised earlier this week, Miss Hill will be coming into school next Thursday, 4th July for guitar lessons rather than on Friday 5th July. If your child has guitar lessons in school, could you please ensure that your child brings their guitar to school next Thursday for their lesson.
Transition for September 2024
We have now started our whole school transition to prepare the children for moving up to the next year group in September. Yesterday, the children visited their new class and had a 'get to know you' session with their new teacher.
On Tuesday 9th July, the children will spend the morning in their new class. They will go into their current class for registration and will then be taken to their new class for the morning. After school on Tuesday 9th July, there will be a 'Meet The Teacher' session from 3pm to 4pm where parents and children can pop along to meet their child's new teacher.
Wednesday 10th July is our Move Up Day where the children will spend the whole day in their new class with their new teacher. On this day, the children should be dropped off and collected from their new classroom - further information regarding this will be sent out next week, as we are aware that some parents/carers will be unsure of the location of their child's new classroom. Our current nursery children will stay for lunch that day, along with those children who don't currently attend Mayflower but who will be joining us in Reception and other year groups in September. Further information has already been sent out regarding this to those involved.
Year 6 transition to Secondary School
Next week sees the start of the Year 6 transition to Secondary School in September. We can't believe there are only 3 weeks left of primary school for our Year 6 children. We know that they are all ready to move on now, but we will really miss them when they leave and will definitely be making the most of having them with us for these final 3 weeks of term.
Year 6 parents/carers should have received information regarding transition arrangements from their chosen Secondary school. We look forward to hearing all about their new schools when the children return from their transition.
PTA Gifting Tree
Look out for our PTA's Gifting Tree in the main reception. Each tag on the tree has something the school needs. These are big and small items. Please have a look at the tags, and if you find something you know you have and can donate or can buy to donate, take the tag. Bring it back to the office with your name on and the donation (or feel free to stay anonymous).
We are starting the wishing tree with outdoor play items. Our PTA has bought large weather proof boxes that we are filling with items the children love during play time.
- Active play (bats balls, hoops, skipping ropes etc)
- STEM (construction, den building etc)
- Art (stubby chalk, etcher sketchers, paint brushes etc)
- Reading (books, outdoor cushions, picnic blankets)
- cars (car mat, road tape, cars etc)
- home (dolls, clothes, shop)
- numeracy (foam dice, kids tape measures, foam numbers)

On the original swimming letter, the last swimming session was given as Friday 12th July. We have been advised that our last swimming session of this year will actually be Friday 19th July (our last day of term). This last session will be a fun swim for the children.

Year 2 recently wrote some wonderful letters to those people who inspire them. They could choose anyone to write to and everyone crossed their fingers and hoped that the person who has inspired them would write back. We have started to receive some letters back recently and Year 2 are so excited each time the letters are delivered to class.

Ella received a letter from her Grandie.
