Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.
Nursery & Reception
Archie in Nursery for doing really good listening, good following instructions and trying his best.
Kiki in Reception for working incredibly hard this week in maths and being a kind, caring friend.
Year 1
Seb – Sebastian we are so proud of your start in Year 1, we have loved seeing your confidence grow and especially with how you support your friends and how you show teamwork in the classroom. Keep up the good work!
Rory – Well done Rory, you’ve had a fantastic week being a collaborative member of our classroom. You have been great with helping your friends within your class and still following our school rules.
Year 2
James - for being a great team player and always supporting others. James is fantastic at looking out for other people, checking they are ok and helping them be involved.
Olive - for being a wonderful team player. She supports others to be the best they can be and is always kind and helpful.
Year 3
Logan for always being a helpful member of the class, he will often ask if he can help do a job or volunteer to help. This week Logan has shown really good teamwork during group writing activities where he has helped people in his group generate ideas as well as sharing his ideas with the group. Well done, Logan!
Mason - this week Mason has shown great teamwork by helping his peers, he has done this in a number of ways but mainly within group work where Mason has shared ideas within his writing and helped his group come up with ideas to include in their writing. Well done, Mason!
Year 4
Darcy - for always being an outstanding member of the Year 4 team. Darcy notices when things need tidying, handing out or organising! She encourages and organises other children in class. Fantastic!
Amelie - for being a kind, caring and helpful member of her team in Tennis. Amelie is always happy to help other people which is why she is such an excellent team member!
Year 5
Max, George, Sophie, Ava, Bella and Wynter - this week these children have been working collaboratively with the children in KS1. They are always happy to take responsibility for jobs that they have been asked to do and they carry them out in a mature manner. When working in paired or group activities these children always work sensibly and cooperatively; sharing their ideas and thoughtfully listening to what others say. They are always kind and sensitive and know that some people may think differently to themselves.
Mrs Davies is very grateful for all of your hard work!
Year 6
This week, all the children in Year 6 are all Stars of the Week! They have shown exemplary behaviour at Caythorpe on their residential, have given everything a go even when they were sometimes unsure or nervous about a particular activity and have been the most amazing group of children to be around. Mrs Powell, Miss Dunn and Mrs Twidle are so proud of you Year 6. We hope you have made many memories during your time at Caythorpe and we look forward to sharing some of them on next week's blog.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week, Darcy in Year 4 received the Headteacher Award trophy. Darcy, you are an absolute delight to have in school. Nothing is ever too much trouble for you and you are a superb role model to all the other children throughout school. Darcy has impeccable manners and is always respectful to everyone in school. She is kind, helpful and is always considerate of the feelings of others. She often knows what needs doing before the adults, which is brilliant!! Well done Darcy!
Can you spare some time to help us please?
Can you spare a few hours each week to come into school and help us please? We are looking for some volunteers to help with reading, active play and with our allotment. If you may be interested, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk or ring the school office on 01302 710721 and we can make an appointment for you to come into school for a chat and to get further details.
Sharing your work role with our younger children
The children in Nursery and Reception are currently working on their topic 'People in our lives'. Would you be willing to come into school for 15-20 minutes at some point this half term to talk to the children about your job role? The children will ask you some questions so that they can use this information as part of their topic work.
If you would be interested, could you please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and provide some details about your job role and your availability to visit school. We can then discuss this with you further.
Congratulations!
We had some fantastic news this week. Mrs Birkinshaw, who recently left us to start her maternity leave, welcomed baby Etta into the world on Monday this week. Mum and baby are doing really well and are settling in well at home. Etta's big sister Margot is being a super big sister! Congratulations to the Birkinshaw family - we can't wait to meet the new arrival soon!
Rose in Year 3 took part in a dance show last Friday with her dance group. Rose loves her dancing and had a fantastic time. Her family are so proud of her and we are proud of you too Rose! We bet you lit up the stage with your enthusiasm and beautiful smile! Well done Rose - we can't wait for you to share some more of your dance journey with us in the future.
Christmas Art Project 2023
We wanted to let parents/carers know that the children will be taking part in a Christmas design project again this year. For those of you who are new to school, the children design a piece of artwork which can then be used by a company to make Christmas cards/mugs etc which can be purchased.
Last year, we used a company called Xmas4Schools. We had some lovely feedback from parents/carers about the quality of the products so have decided to use this company again this year. Please click on the link below to have a look at their website.
https://xmas4schools.co.uk/
The children will be creating their designs in school, which will then be sent home with an order form during week commencing 9th October. The deadline to get the completed order form back to school will be Wednesday 18th October to ensure delivery in time for Christmas. No payments are required at that stage. Once the company have received the artwork and order forms, parents/carers will receive a text/email with their personal order code so you can then log in, place your orders, and make payment online directly with Xmas4Schools.
All products ordered will be delivered back to school and sent home with the children. We will of course keep you updated at each stage of the process and provide a reminder of deadline dates. Please keep an eye out on our Friday weekly blog for further details.
Free School Meals and additional funding
We thought it would be useful to share information each term regarding Free School Meals with parents/carers. Some parents/carers may not realise that they are eligible, for example if their circumstances have recently changed. Parents/Carers with children in Years 2 and below may also not have applied for Free School Meals as their child already receives a free meal which is funded by the Government's Universal Infant Free School Meals initiative.
Children who are eligible for means-tested Free School Meals are also entitled to receive additional funding called Pupil Premium. This is a grant provided by the Government which school will receive for 6 years to enable us to support the children and enhance their education.
For further information regarding Free School Meals, please click on the link below.
https://www.doncaster.gov.uk/services/schools/free-school-meals
If you live in a different Local Authority to Doncaster, please visit your own Local Authority's website for further information on Free School Meals.
If you think you are eligible and would like us to make the application on your behalf, we are more than happy to do this if you contact the school office.
With Me In Mind
At the end of last term, we emailed out some information about a new service called 'With Me In Mind' who will be working with us this year. Attached to the email were some documents and we thought it would be useful to share this information again prior to the first drop in session which will take place on 4th October between 8.45am and 10.45am.
Welcome to With Me In Mind. We are a service that works with children and Young People who need support with their mental health and wellbeing. We work within certain schools across Doncaster and you and your children will see us at Bawtry Mayflower Primary School from September. We will be offering dates for parents to come and have a cuppa and a chat (please see the timetable below).
We can discuss the service with you and any concerns that you have about your children or your own mental health and wellbeing. Please have a look at the information below, as we can help with low mood, fears, stress, worries and emotional difficulties.

Happy Retirement Mrs Rushby!
We were all very sad today to say goodbye to our amazing cook Mrs Rushby. It was Mrs Rushby's last day today, as she is leaving us to start her well-earned retirement. Mrs Rushby has been here at Bawtry Mayflower for 4 years, but has worked for Doncaster Council's Schools Catering team for over 20 years. We do not even want to think about how many meals Mrs Rushby has made over the time she has been with us!! What we do know is that each and every one of them was made with love and was absolutely delicious!!
Thank you so much for all you have done for the staff, children, Governors and visitors Mrs Rushby. You are the best and we will really miss you. We hope you have a wonderful retirement, with time to do the things you want to and spend time with your lovely family.
