Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them.

Here are this week's stars:

Foundation

Evie and Owen for working hard in RWI. They are doing a great job with segmenting and blending.

1/2A Mrs Davies

Joseph - Joseph doesn't always find organising himself easy, but he has developed lots of wonderful strategies to help himself, including developing routines and an amazing way to get his coat on! He has also learnt his lines for the nativity!

Ottavia - Ottavia has quietly and conscientiously learnt her lines for the nativity and she knows exactly when to say them!

1/2B Miss Cruickshanks

Jacob for his fantastic hard-working attitude always and for his super problem splicing skills in place value this week in maths!

Lilly for her hard work and enthusiasm in writing this week. You have impressed so many adults in KS1 this week!

1/2C Mrs Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor

Leo T for trying really hard in maths and being so resilient. This has helped him to be able to solve problems more easily.

Mason for working really hard all week and being an excellent role model in class.

3/4A Mrs Wood

Jamie for supporting the people on his table by organising resources and finding solutions to their problems. Jamie has shown a really mature attitude and has been incredibly helpful!

Cameron - Cameron has been working very hard this week. She has been thoughtful in her approach to classwork and has made some sensible decisions. Cameron has been problem solving with these decisions!

3/4B Mrs Perry

Lucy and Sophia B for being good problem solvers. Thinking about the steps needed to solve a problem and doing it, rather than waiting to be told how to solve the problem. They have also been supporting others to solve problems.

5/6A Miss Dunn

Zach W - Zach has really taken on board learning from assemblies and class this week. He has utilised a range of problem solving strategies to enable him to work independently and to solve his own problems. Zach also shares these strategies with other children in the class to enable them to help themselves when they encounter a problem or difficulty.

Carson - Carson has really impressed me this week with his attitude towards his learning. He has worked independently and really pushed himself to make sure that his work is finished to the best of his ability. Carson completed a piece of independent writing this week, showing resilience and determination to persevere and to write at length.

5/6B Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker

Aaron, Ellis, Charlotte and Ophelia for working hard to improve their arithmetic skills. I am really impressed with how much they have improved in this area of their learning! They should be very proud of themselves. Keep up the hard work!

Dance Club Performances

As advised previously, our KS1 and KS2 dance clubs would like to invite their parents/carers to a dance performance as follows:

KS1 Dance Club (Years 1&2) - Monday 5th December at 3.40pm

KS2 Dance Club (Years 3-6) - Wednesday 7th December at 3.40pm

The children will perform the dance routine they have learned.

We really hope their parents/carers can make it. Please come to the school office to sign in and we will direct you to the lower hall where the performances will take place.

PTA Christmas Disco Thursday 8th December

Letters should have come home with the children tonight about the PTA Christmas Disco, which takes place next Thursday, 8th December. If you would like your child to attend, please return the reply slip at the bottom of the letter, together with £1, to your child's class teacher by next Tuesday, 6th December at the latest.

Christmas Service Monday 12th December

We will be going to St Nicholas' Church for our Christmas Service on the morning of Monday 12th December. The staff and children from Years 1 to 6 will be walking to the church, setting off from school that morning straight after the class registers have been taken.

Thank you to those who have already volunteered to join us and walk to the church and back with the children. If you would still like to volunteer and haven't yet let us know,  please let school know by Monday 5th December at the latest.

If you bring your child to school, please let your child's class teacher know that you are available to join us. Otherwise, please ring the school office on 01302 710721 or email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk to let us know you are available.

If you are walking with us, please come to the school office once your child is in their class on Monday 12th December.

Christmas Art Project - orders have arrived

We have received the Xmas4Schools orders back in school this afternoon. These will be sorted and taken round to the classes at the beginning of next week, ready to come home with the children on either Monday or Tuesday night. The company has asked us to let parents/carers know that occasionally, when dealing with thousands of handwritten children’s names, a spelling mistake can occur. Their data is always double checked by a human and their error rate last year was extremely low.  If, however, you do receive an order with an incorrect spelling, please call us and we will get in touch with Xmas4Schools who will then reprocess your order.

Wraparound childcare after Christmas

Hoglets wraparound childcare has asked us to pass on that if you would like to request booking forms for the wraparound care which will take place in school after Christmas, please email hogletsbawtry@hotmail.com as soon as possible.

Likewise, if you have already requested booking forms, please return these to hogletsbawtry@hotmail.com as soon as possible.

All requests for forms and completed forms need to be returned prior to 23rd December, as Hoglets will not be open again until 3rd January. They want to ensure that everyone who needs to book places has done so by 23rd December, to prevent any rush after the Christmas period.

English Touring Opera

What an amazing performance from the English Touring Opera on Wednesday this week! The children were in awe of the amazing voices and acting of the group and loved the version of their story of Tutankhamun's shoes.

It was their last day of the show too, so we were very lucky to be one of the last schools to enjoy this

News from Year 3/4

Last Friday, the children in Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic day at Creswell Crags learning about life in the Stone Age. The children asked and answered lots of questions and their behaviour was exceptional!

Rocks and Soils

Sorting rocks into the three different types: sedimentary rocks, igneous rocks and metamorphic rocks. There is always the same quantity of rock on the earth but the rock can change types.

The task here was to match a rock to its name and type. There were some clues to help the scientific discussions.

Survival Skills

Shelter building involved a lot of teamwork. The reindeer fur was very soft and we learned that each strand of fur is hollow and that it is hypoallergenic.

Hunting bison was not as easy as it looked. An accurate aim and a strong throw was needed to ensure the bison did not attack!

Teamwork was essential when making fire. In the Stone Age it would have taken a team of people to start the fire and then maintain it.

Life in a cave

Before entering Mother Grundy’s cave, it was essential to check for animals making it their home. The children know that sharing a cave with a carnivore would be disastrous, but sharing with a herbivore would be acceptable.

Music was used for entertainment and to communicate. Some time in the cave was spend looking at the image of a cave painting and trying to decide what the painter was trying to communicate.

The children were able to look closely at some tools and identify how they were made and what they were used for.

Congratulations!

Logan in Year 2 is so pleased with himself for his hard work in football training recently. This hard work definitely paid off, as Logan was recently awarded Player of the Week! What an amazing achievement Logan - well done, your family are so proud of you and so are we!
