Attendance

Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week, Mrs Wood's class had the highest attendance with 98.35%! Well done Year 4!

Please see below for the attendance figures for this week. The target attendance for all children is currently set at 97%.

Attendance for this week

Nursery - 95.56%

Reception - 91.81%

Year 1 Mrs Singh - 95.17%

Year 2 Mrs Davies - 92.36%

Year 3 Miss Scott - 84.38%

Year 4 Mrs Wood - 98.35%

Year 5 Mrs Pickersgill - 88.89%

Year 6 Miss Dunn - 94.18%

Celebrating fantastic attendance!

This term, we want to continue to celebrate our children's fantastic attendance. As you are aware, each class with 100% attendance on a particular day will receive one letter from the word MAYFLOWER to put on their classroom door. Once a class has spelt out the word MAYFLOWER, a member of the class will bring all their letters down to the office to claim their prize from our box of Awesome Attendance Activities!

This week, the classes have done amazingly well and lots of letters have been given out. Please see below where each class stands at the end of today:

Nursery - M A Y

Reception - M A Y F L

Year 1 - M A Y F L O

Year 2 - M A Y F L

Year 3 - M A

Year 4 - M A Y F L

Year 5 - M A

Year 6 - M A Y F L O

The children are loving coming to the office to claim their letters and seeing the word MAYFLOWER building up on their classroom doors. Some of the classes are so close to completing this challenge for the first time to enable them to claim their prize - who will be our first winners?! We are confident that next week will be the week we give out one of the prizes for the first time - watch this space!

Attendance Monitoring

Attendance is something we monitor closely here at Bawtry Mayflower and next week we will be holding our half termly attendance monitoring meeting. Following this, attendance and late letters will be sent home during the first week back after half term; these will be sent with the children addressed to a parent/carer at home. These letters form part of the local authority’s and school’s attendance policy and are a way of ensuring that you are kept informed of your child’s attendance when this drops below or continues to be below the expected level of 97%.

Leadership and staff here at the school are very aware that at times absences cannot be helped for example if there has been a medical appointment or short illness taken place. However, we have a statutory duty to provide regular updates on children's attendance.

Holidays, as you are aware, cannot be authorised in any circumstances other than those stated on the back of the local authority’s holiday form.

Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.

Nursery & Reception

Jasper for using the learning powers to help him improve his own and other's work. He has asked questions and given suggestions about improvements that could be made to their pictures, models and writing.

Bethany for improved listening skills and trying her best to do what is asked of her. She is also being very kind and helpful to her friends.

Year 1

Reuben: Reuben, it has been great to see you follow our school rules and working so hard. This week you have really challenged yourself to not give up and try your best. You succeeded in completing your Maths work, even though it was challenging. We are proud to see your confidence grow, so well done and keep up the good work!

Thomas S: Well done Thomas, you have tried so hard in following school rules and it has been great to see you so settled in your class, since joining us in September. You have shown resilience through your learning and especially in your work. Over the weeks, you have continuously tried succeeding in your spellings to get full marks, which has been rewarding for yourself. Keep up the hard work!

Year 2

Sadie - for having a growing confidence in herself and showing increasing resilience when she finds herself facing tricky situations. It is lovely to see Sadie take control, ask questions, make decisions and absolutely thrive! Well done, Sadie!

Noah J - for just being all-round wonderful! His resilience and determination to never give up, even when he finds things really tricky, is an inspiration to us all. It has been wonderful to see the impact of his attitude on his work too - he is making amazing progress. Well done, Noah!

Year 3

Natalie - Natalie is always resilient. She doesn't always find things easy, but is determined to succeed in everything she does. Natalie has tried really hard this week with all her work. Well done Natalie!

Lilly-Rose - Lilly has been a great role model this week with her 'I can' attitude, nothing has fazed Lilly this week. She has been determined in all lessons to do her best and when faced with a challenge hasn't given up, she has stuck at it and overcome it. Well done Lilly!

Year 4

Katie - Katie has shown how thoughtful and kind she is in many different ways this week. She brought an extra bottle into school on Monday for another pupil who did not know they needed a bottle. She has helped the adults in class, helped the other pupils and has made us all very proud!

Seth - Seth has been a fantastic helper and friend this week. He has supported a new pupil in class by showing him round, explaining the new routines, making sure he was in the right place at the right time and introducing him to children and staff in school. Seth has taken on this responsibility as well as completing all of his work to a high standard!

Year 5

Ava B - Ava's confidence is developing which is really pleasing to see and she is trying very hard to cope with situations which in the past she has found quite worrying and this is a credit to the hard work she has put in. Her resilience is growing and she now understands that she can learn from her mistakes. Well done Ava! Keep it up!

Freddie - Freddie's confidence in new and unfamiliar situations is increasing and he is beginning to face challenges with a positive attitude. He is developing his resilience and he is beginning to understand that he can learn from his mistakes. Well done Freddie! Keep it up!

Year 6

This week in school, our focus has been on resilience; we have been looking for those children across school who show that they are resilient learners and this week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind:

Skyla - Skyla has shown that she is a resilient learner this week: when faced with challenges or difficulties in lessons, she does not become disheartened. She utilises a range of independent strategies in order to overcome any barriers encountered and even supports other children to do the same. Skyla always takes feedback on her work on board, responding with positivity and acting upon it to ensure that each piece of work is the very best that it can be.

Faith - Faith shows resilience when it comes to her learning. When faced with a challenge or difficulty in lessons, she independently utilises a range of strategies in order to overcome this. Faith knows when it is appropriate to ask for help from her peers or an adult and she does this once she has first tried to solve the problem for herself. She is accepting of feedback and acts upon it to ensure that her work is the best that it can be.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week’s superstar award goes to Jasper in Reception. Jasper has been so kind to all of his friends this week and shown true care towards others in his class. He is a shining star in Reception Class always asking ‘how are you today?’ and holding doors to let others through first. Jasper lives our school rules every day and shows true integrity in all his actions. Such a wonderful role model for everyone in school and does everything with the most amazing smile and positive attitude. Well done Jasper, we are all so proud of you.

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign that the children will be learning next week.

LUCKY

Boggledybook Children's Bookshop

On Tuesday, we welcomed Boggledybook Children's Bookshop into school. They sell a wide range of books for £1, £2 or £3. The children loved coming to the bookshop to choose which books they would like to buy.

Thank you to everyone who was able to send their children with some money to purchase a book during school time and to those who came to our reading cafe after school. We have received 27 books for our school library from Boggledybooks as a thank you for the sales that were made on the day.

Choir - Young Voices tickets

If your child is in our choir and you haven't yet been to collect your Young Voices tickets, could you please come to the school office by the end of next week to collect them.

Payment for After School Clubs

There are still some outstanding payments for our after school clubs. If you haven't yet made the required payment, please ensure that you log in to ParentPay this weekend to make the payment. Chasing payments takes time away from the office that could be better spent on other tasks so we appreciate your support with this.

Emergency Childcare and wraparound care going forward

This is the update planned regarding the provision for wraparound care for Bawtry Mayflower for the rest of the academic year and as of September 2024.

Firstly, again I want to express our huge appreciation to the team that has volunteered and covered this for the past few weeks. You have allowed our families to have continued support with their childcare needs and this I know has been greatly appreciated by all the parents I have spoken to. And again, the children have been simply amazing and I particularly enjoy our breakfast chats each morning that I am in!

A huge thank you to everyone who completed the questionnaire sent to all by a possible provider. The results were positive and we are able to confirm the situation here as it stands. After consultation with First Step – Active care https://firststep-sports.co.uk/active-care/ they have agreed to continue with the wraparound care here at Bawtry Mayflower from after Easter 2024. (Summer Term). This will be alongside a sustainability plan supported by the Local Authority. Within the parameters of this funding, they will be able to provide as follows:

Breakfast Club facilities – 7.30-8.45am (Monday to Friday)
After School provision – 3pm-5.30pm (Monday to Thursday)

This will be run at costs in line with Hoglets and no greater than that, and booking can be made more flexibly via their portal and more information will be sent to you via their marketing information next half term. The children and staff will also have chance to meet their coaches and staff and we will look to build a provision which offers lots of current and exciting new opportunities for clubs and activities for those who attend.

Obviously, there needs to be a continuation of the emergency childcare until Easter and the staff running the care so far have all agreed to continue this as it was. Booking will open for these weeks on Monday 5th February. This will be the same process as this half term. This has worked well on the whole and payments made on time which has meant reduced admin time. Can I please ask that payments are made before 12.30pm the previous Friday to ensure that registers are correct and admin is completed in enough time without having to follow up. This does make a huge difference.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the next steps put in place please contact the office or myself to discuss.

Kind regards,
Mrs Powell.

Congratulations!

Sophia in Year 4 is part of our Gardening after school club and noticed when in the allotment that we don't have much compost to use. Sophia wanted to create our own compost so asked Mrs Powell if we could have a compost caddy so that Mrs Stanfield, our cook, can put in egg shells, vegetable peelings etc that can then be turned into compost to help everything grow.

What a fantastic idea Sophia! We know you are loving being part of our Gardening club and they are very lucky to have you working with them. We can't wait to see what is growing in the allotment over the coming weeks and months.

Ella from Year 2 and her sister Sophia, who is in Nursery, recently ran 3 kilometres as part of the Active Fusion Challenge at Doncaster Dome. They ran all the way and had such fun - this definitely shows!! Well done girls!

Please see the menu below for next week. There may need to be last minute changes to the menus on occasion, to take into account availability of items or delivery issues.

To celebrate Chinese New Year, the menu for Thursday and Friday next week will change from the meal choices below. On Thursday, the children will have the fish dinner/vegetable nuggets and jam tart and custard. On Friday, the children will have the choice of Chinese chicken curry with rice or vegetable fried rice with vegetables.
