Those with 100% attendance will also receive a little treat after the Easter holidays.

Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them.

Foundation

Isaac for always doing good listening, following instructions and always trying his best.

Henry for completing complex repeating patterns in maths this week.

1/2A Mrs Davies

Sadie, for showing excellent determination when writing a personal narrative from the perspective of Mary Anning in topic this week. Sadie used fantastic description to describe Mary Anning's first experience of finding an ichthyosaurus skeleton!

Belle, for showing great courage when she performed in the Rock Steady concert. She was feeling really nervous beforehand, but she delivered an excellent performance regardless. We are so proud of you, Belle!

Joseph, for being extremely independent during our science lesson this week. Joseph completed his task independently and correctly identified which groups the different animals belong to. Well done, Joseph!

1/2B Miss Cruickshanks

Jenson for being unbelievably determined with his reading, being resilient in learning his sounds and making remarkable progress. You are fantastic, keep it up!

Mae for being irreplaceable in year 1/2, for being a friend to every child, for always including everyone! You really are fantastic!

1/2C Mrs Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor

Robyn - Robyn always works so hard from History to singing in church - she is a star!

Laroti - Laroti has been working very hard in maths and working hard to check his work. You are a maths whizz!

3/4A Mrs Wood

Darcy for being a thoughtful and helpful student in class and always ready to learn.

Ava L - she is a quiet member of our team but one that tries her best in all areas of the curriculum.

3/4B Mrs Perry

Vinnie: For continuing to work hard, being kind and being respectful to all adults and peers. Vinnie continues to push himself with his learning and strives for it to be the best it can be.

Jack R: For continuing to work hard, being kind and being respectful to all adults and peers. Jack is always ready to learn and often challenges himself with his learning.

5/6A Miss Dunn

Evelyn - I have been so impressed with Evelyn's determination and attitude to learning this term; this was further demonstrated on Wednesday when she took part in an inter-school cross country competition. She showed a huge amount of courage and a positive, can-do attitude and this is the approach that I have seen towards her school work all term.

Charlie R - Charlie comes into school every day with the biggest smile and this makes me smile too. He shows consideration towards others and genuinely wants to make others happy. Charlie has tried so hard with his learning this half term and he shows pride in his work when he has been successful - keep this up Charlie. ?

5/6B Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker

Layla S - Layla is able to manage distractions well and listens attentively during whole class situations. Layla is much more aware of the importance of making changes to her work and she is beginning to think about the next steps she needs to take. Layla demonstrates increasing confidence in new and unfamiliar situations and faces challenges with a positive attitude. She is developing her resilience and understands that she can learn from her mistakes. Keep up the hard work!

Lorna - Lorna represented Bawtry Mayflower in the Doncaster Danum Read Aloud this week. As part of the event, Lorna had to stand up in front of an audience and a panel of judges and deliver a famous speech. She was courageous, confident and well-spoken and delivered her speech with enthusiasm and confidence. Well done Lorna! You should be proud of yourself! We are all very proud of you!

Letter from Mrs Powell

As we reach the end of another term, Mrs Powell has written an end of term letter. This has been emailed out to parents/carers via ParentPay today.

PANS & PANDAS awareness

With the increase of strep A and scarlet fever cases in schools, I wanted to provide some key fact information to raise awareness regarding a condition called PANDAS. A child within school has had this recent diagnosis, but this is not a condition readily heard of or discussed with professionals.

Please read the following key fact information, and kindly the parent has offered to talk to any parent/carer/teacher who has any concerns regarding Pandas, so please contact school if you have any questions so this can be arranged.

Thank You.

Easter Egg Raffle

We were blown away by how many Easter eggs and easter-related goodies were donated to our raffle this week. Thank you to everyone who donated. We will let you know how much was raised and what the money will go towards on our first blog after the Easter holidays. We hope those who won are very happy with their prizes! We're not sure they will last until Easter though!

PTA Easter Activity

2 members of our fabulous PTA came into school yesterday to do an Easter Egg Hunt for the children. Each class split into groups and had to search for clues. They then got a stamp and when they had collected all the stamps, they received an Easter egg. The children had a fantastic time and we are extremely grateful to Mrs Buxton and Mrs Dolby for organising and running the event. It really got everyone in the Easter spirit!

Wear a hat day/non-uniform day Friday 31st March

Thank you to everyone who donated towards our chosen charity this time for our non-uniform/wear a hat day. Our charity this time was Brain Tumour Research. They will be really grateful for your support. We will let you know how much was raised for the charity on our first blog after the Easter holidays.

The staff were challenged to design their own hats to wear today. Mrs Sturrock was chosen as the winner by the group of children who were tasked with judging the competition and what a worthy winner she was! Well done Mrs Sturrock!

Year 3/4 PE Days after Easter

Years 3&4 will be having PE on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after Easter. Could the children please come in their PE kits on these days.

Goodbye and good luck!

This week we said goodbye to Mrs Sykes, one of our Foundation teachers as we prepare for Mrs Mundy to return from her maternity leave. Mrs Sykes has been a fabulous part of our team and we will really miss her, but wish her well for the future. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Mundy back to school after the Easter holidays.

We also said a fond farewell and good luck to Mrs Walker, our Deputy Head, who has left us today to start her maternity leave. She will be greatly missed by the children, staff and families during her maternity leave, but we know you will join us in sending her all our love and best wishes. We can't wait to meet your little bundle of joy Mrs Walker!

Recognition Board Success

Congratulations to the children below who have received their Recognition badges from Mrs Powell recently. They all got their names under all 3 categories on the Recognition board - Work Hard, Be Kind and Be Respectful. Well done everyone!

If your child has been awarded with their Recognition Badge recently and hasn't yet appeared on one of our Friday blogs, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and we will make sure we celebrate their success on one of our future blogs.

News from around school

On Monday afternoon, staff from South Yorkshire Police came in to school to deliver an online safety talk for the children in Year 5/6.

TIPS TO STAY SAFE ONLINE

There are lots of things you can do to keep yourself safe online.
  • Think before you post
Don’t upload or share anything you wouldn’t want your parents, carers, teachers or future employers seeing. Once you post something, you lose control of it, especially if someone else screenshots or shares it.
  • Don’t share personal details
Keep things like your address, phone number, full name, school and date of birth private, and check what people can see in your privacy settings. Remember that people can use small clues like a school logo in a photo to find out a lot about you.
  • Watch out for phishing and scams
Phishing is when someone tries to trick you into giving them information, like your password. Someone might also try to trick you by saying they can make you famous or that they’re from a talent agency. Never click links from emails or messages that ask you to log in or share your details, even if you think they might be genuine. If you’re asked to log into a website, go to the app or site directly instead.
  • Think about who you’re talking to
There are lots of ways that people try to trick you into trusting them online. Even if you like and trust someone you’ve met online, never share personal information with them like your address, full name, or where you go to school. Find out more about grooming.
  • Keep your device secure
Make sure that you’re keeping your information and device secure.
  • Never give out your password
You should never give out your password or log-in information. Make sure you pick strong, easy to remember passwords.
  • Cover your webcam
Some viruses will let someone access your webcam without you knowing, so make sure you cover your webcam whenever you’re not using it.

On Tuesday, we invited families of the children who have been taking part in the Rocksteady music sessions to come into school for a concert. This was to showcase what the children had been learning since their lessons started. Each group performed separately and could really show the progression that had been made in their lessons. The smiles on their faces as they were performing was priceless!

On Wednesday, the children in Years 1 to 6 walked to St Nicholas' Church for our Easter Service. As always, the children had a great time and those who did readings at the service were brilliant. The children had been practising the songs for the service and nearly blew the church roof off with their singing!! Thanks to Tony from church as always for leading the service. We would also like to thank those family members who walked to church and back with the children - we couldn't do it without you and are so grateful for your time.

While the rest of the school was at church, our Nursery and Reception children had some furry visitors! They welcomed DB Animal Therapy into school as part of the work they have been doing on animals and life cycles. The children were lucky enough to stroke and hold lots of animals including a rabbit, guinea pig, snake, tortoise, skink, chicks, snake and frog! They also found out lots of interesting facts about them including how they grow, what they eat and how they move. They all really enjoyed this experience!

Wednesday was a very busy day, as some of our Key Stage 2 children took part in an inter-schools Cross Country competition. It was the first time that the children had taken part in this event and they were absolutely amazing! It was commented on by members of staff from other schools and parents how well behaved and responsible all the children were. Their team spirit shone through and they certainly exhibited all the values that we are proud to have here at Bawtry Mayflower. Well done to everyone who took part - you did our school proud!

The children who have taken part in our Dance after school clubs this term also performed for their families this week. They had been working on dance routines during their after school club sessions and this culminated in some fantastic performances this week. Paige, who leads the Dance club, is brilliant at getting the best out of the children and working to their strengths. We hope those who were able to make the performances really enjoyed them and appreciated all the hard work that the children have put in this term. Well done!

Yesterday, Lorna in Year 6 attended the Danum Speak Aloud event. Children from across Doncaster had been invited to choose a speech to perform at the event. The children auditioned in school and Lorna was chosen to represent Bawtry Mayflower at the event. We received the most amazing news last night - Lorna had won! Her speech was a Suffragettes speech by Emmeline Pankhurst and Lorna performed it with such passion and confidence. We are all so proud of you Lorna!

Lorna performed the speech in our celebration assembly today and blew us all away! You are an absolute star Lorna and a well-deserved winner! Well done!

Lorna is photographed with the former Lord Lieutenant of Doncaster who came up with the idea of the competition. She is also pictured with the judges and had to have a red carpet photo!

In Year 3/4 this week, we completed an investigation linked to Time. We had to work in small groups and research how long certain things took, like how long to boil an egg, the women’s marathon world record and the length of the reign of Queen Victoria. Once we had found these things out, we had to order them from shortest time taken to longest.

In PE, we have been perfecting our dribbling and passing in Hockey, in preparation for the competition after the Easter holidays.

We all enjoyed a lovely Easter Service at the Church on Wednesday. We practised our sign language so we could sign along with some of the songs.

L - O - V - E God

We started an Art project to celebrate the Kings coronation. We learnt how to use a pencil correctly, not press on too hard and how to use lines to create as side face profile.
