Bank Holiday Monday 6th May
Don't forget that it's a bank holiday on Monday, so school is closed. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next Tuesday.
Attendance
Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week Miss Dunn's class had the highest attendance with 96.97%. Well done Year 6!
Please see below for the attendance figures for this week. The target attendance for all children is currently set at 97%.
Nursery - 95%
Reception - 95.91%
Year 1 Mrs Ronan & Mrs McAllister - 95.17%
Year 2 Mrs Davies - 94.10%
Year 3 Miss Scott - 94.10%
Year 4 Mrs Wood - 95.88%
Year 5 Mrs Pickersgill - 94.75%

Celebrating fantastic attendance!
The children are speeding along now with gathering all the letters from the word MAYFLOWER! As you are aware, each class with 100% attendance on a particular day will receive one letter from the word MAYFLOWER to put on their classroom door. Once a class has spelt out the word MAYFLOWER, a member of the class will bring all their letters down to the office to claim their prize from our box of Awesome Attendance Activities!
Please see below where each class stands at the end of today:

Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.
Nursery & Reception
Ronnie in Nursery has just started to learn the first set of phonic sounds in Read Write Inc. He is really enjoying this new learning and sits and listens really well in these lessons. He is really enthusiastic about taking part and doing his sound sheet homework at home too! Well done Ronnie, keep up the good work.
Georgia in Reception for always being a superstar! She tries her best in all areas of learning and even asks for more when she's finished. She's always being kind, helpful and caring towards her friends and is a great role model to others. Well done Georgia!
Year 1
Mia is always respectful to both adults and other pupils. She is an excellent role model to all those around her by being polite and using her manners. She listens to instructions and, if she needs to speak to an adult, she does not interrupt but waits for her turn. Well done Mia!
Patrick is both respectful and polite. When he knows the answer to a question, he remembers to sit smartly and to not shout out. He waits patiently and respectfully when he wants to speak to an adult. He always shows respect to his class mates and is never rude to them or impolite.
Year 2
Jacob and Sadie - for epitomising what it means to be respectful, day in and day out. They both quietly and conscientiously do everything that is asked of them. They never argue or grumble. They always say please, thank you and excuse me. They wait patiently until it is their turn to speak. They are always ready to learn and always willing to help others. In short, they are absolute joys to have in the classroom. Thank you both for being so wonderful!
Year 3
Oscar - Oscar is a very respectful member of our class, he is kind and a good friend to all. He will offer support to his peers, he tries his best in all lessons, always uses his manners, holds the door open for everyone and goes above and beyond to be respectful and kind.
Edward - Edward is a brilliant role model to not only our class but everybody in school, he is kind, respectful, extremely hard working and repeatedly goes above and beyond for his peers and staff. His manners are impeccable and sets a brilliant example to others. Edward is the first to volunteer to help and do a job or help one of his friends.
Year 4
Ezamay - Ezamay is always polite and well-mannered in class. She looks after her own resources and tidies them away and is happy to tidy up the classroom to keep our resources neat. Ezamay is the first person to hold the door open for other people and always says thank you to other children if they hold the door open for her!
Tamara - Tamara is always respectful in class. She uses her manners without needing a reminder and is an excellent example for other children. Being respectful seems to come naturally to Tamara and she is a joy to have in class!
Year 5
Elodie demonstrates respect in school on a daily basis. She is invariably kind to others and is happy to take responsibility for jobs she has been asked to do, carrying them out in a mature manner. Elodie shows respect by listening attentively during whole class discussions and to her peers.
Vinnie A is invariably respectful. He is always kind and sensitive and knows that some people may think differently to himself. Vinnie demonstrates respect by always following the class/school rules, sharing his ideas and thoughtfully listening to what others say.
Year 6
This week in school, our focus has been on one of our hugely important school rules: respect. We have been looking for those children across school who demonstrate this on a daily basis - showing respect to all members of our school community, to our school building and to all resources within it. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Carson - Carson shows respect through his actions and words every single day. He is respectful to all staff across school, showing this in the way that he behaves and the way that he speaks to them. Carson is respectful to all members of the class. He works well with any partner that he is given, sharing his own ideas and ensuring that he values and appreciates the views of others - even if they are different to his own.
Aria - Aria shows respect through her words and actions every single day. She shows active listening when others are speaking - whether this be children or adults - and she values and respects all views and opinions. Aria shows a genuine interest in the well-being of others, often checking in on them to ask if they are okay. She shows respect to our classroom environment, taking the time to ensure that all resources are looked after as they should be.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
My superstar award for this week goes to Katie in Year 4. Katie embodies respect in everything that she does each and every day. This is something that she doesn’t even need to think about doing as it comes naturally to every action in school. This week she has also been a positive support for others in demonstrating patience and understanding to help them make better choices in showing respect to others in school too. Well done Katie, you are such a positive role model for everyone in school and are so deserving of this award.
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign that the children will be learning next week.

Online Safety
If you live with any young gamers, you’ll almost certainly be familiar with Fortnite. It’s one of the most popular video games on the planet – up alongside other mega-hits like Minecraft, Roblox and Call of Duty in terms of its sheer number of fiercely dedicated players. Fortnite currently has more than 400 million devotees worldwide – around 25 million of whom play it every day.
Given Fortnite’s relatively young user-base, and after hearing some of our younger children in school talking about playing the game, (as many as one in four pre-teens are reported to have played the game, despite its PEGI 12 age rating), it’s prudent not to conflate immense popularity with absolute safety. The #WakeUpWednesday guide at the bottom of this page assesses the latest version for potential pitfalls that you as parents and carers of young Fortnite fans should be aware of.
There is also an online safety guide to Roblox at the bottom of this page.
Safety around school
Please remember that if your child comes to school on a bike/scooter, they should not be riding this on school grounds. The playgrounds are very busy at the start and end of the school day so we would appreciate you reminding the children of this rule please.
Could we also ask that no dogs are brought onto school grounds.
Milk delivery next week
Due to an issue at the dairy who provides our milk on behalf of Cool Milk, there will be no milk delivery on Tuesday next week so the children won't start receiving their milk until Wednesday. Those who pay for their milk shouldn't be charged for Tuesday's milk; if you do notice you have been charged, please contact Cool Milk directly.
Music Tuition
An email was sent out this week to parents/carers of children in Year 2 to Year 5 regarding music tuition for the next school year. If this is something that your child currently takes part in and would like to continue or doesn't yet take part but would like to, could you please let us know by emailing admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk by next Friday, 10th May at the latest. It would be helpful if you could also include in your email which instrument your child plays/would be interested in playing. Likewise, if your child currently takes part but no longer wishes to continue, could you please let us know by Friday 10th May.
We would appreciate it if you would only respond if you and your child are absolutely sure that they would like to take part/continue, as we book the time required based on the number of children taking part and if anyone drops out before the lessons start, school would have to still incur that cost. Once payment has been made, no refund can be provided should your child change their mind part way through the year.
Once we have an idea of how many children would like to take part, we will then contact the Music Hub and will be back in touch with parents in due course regarding the finer details of lessons/payment etc.
PSHE/RSE Curriculum
Following on from the consultation on our PSHE/RSE Curriculum we would like to offer a further opportunity for parents and carers to discuss any unanswered questions that they may have. This session will be held in school on Wednesday 15th May from 8.45am to 9.45am.
Please sign up by following the link below by Friday 10th May.

Many Thanks

Year 6 Leavers Hoodies
Don't forget that if your child is in Year 6, the leavers hoodies are still available to order as the deadline has been extended. Details of where and how to order were sent in an email to Year 6 parents/carers. The deadline for orders is 5th May, so please ensure your order is placed in plenty of time to meet this deadline.
Can you help with our allotment?
We are very lucky here at Bawtry Mayflower to have an allotment area that the children can use for some of their learning. However, the allotment takes a lot of upkeep and we are really struggling with this. Our gardening club, run by Lauren and Lindsay from our PTA, worked wonders and we want to keep the momentum going.
Can you spare a little bit of time on a Wednesday after school from 3pm to 4pm to come and help with the allotment? Green fingers are not necessary! Any help given would be greatly appreciated and it doesn't have to be a weekly commitment, just as and when you can. The main jobs to be done are weeding, planting, pruning, tidying, digging and fixing anything that needs it. In return we can provide a warm drink and some biscuits.
If you can help, please come to the school office to sign in first so we know you are on site. Thank you in advance if you are able to support us with this.
No Tea & Talk Wednesday 15th May
We wanted to advise families that there will be no Tea & Talk session on Wednesday 15th May, due to it being SATs week that week. Of course, if you have any concerns or worries that you would like to speak to school about, as always please see your child's class teacher, Mrs Westerman (our Family Manager) or Mrs Powell.
Congratulations!
Year 1 are certainly loving their swimming at the moment, as we have shared lots of their success on our recent blogs. This week, Henry in Year 1 received 2 certificates in his swimming class. Henry told us that he had to swim 30 metres using the breaststroke technique. He told us "it was hard". You perservered though Henry and received your certificate, so you must have done a super job. Well done!
Recognition Board Success
Congratulations to the children below who have received their Recognition badges from Mrs Powell recently. They all got their names under all 3 categories on the Recognition board - Work Hard, Be Kind and Be Respectful. Well done everyone!
If your child has been awarded with their Recognition Badge recently and hasn't yet appeared on one of our Friday blogs, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and we will make sure we celebrate their success on one of our future blogs.

We will also be sending a leaflet home with the children next week, which provides a full timetable of events.
Lunch Menu for week commencing 6th May 2024
Please see the menu below for next week. There may need to be last minute changes to the menus on occasion, to take into account availability of items or delivery issues.
As the new menus are now in place, Mrs Stanfield our school cook will monitor which meals the children enjoy and which aren't so popular. She will then make adjustments as necessary and the menus will be updated and shared on the blog.
