Individual and sibling photos

The individual and sibling photo proofs have been sent home with the children tonight.

The deadline for ordering photos will be next Friday, 11th November. All orders will need to be placed online. Any orders placed after the deadline may incur an additional postage charge.

Christmas Project 2022

Following on from our email earlier this week, we wanted to remind parents/carers that the children will be taking part in a Christmas design project again this year. For those of you who are new to school, the children design a piece of artwork which can then be used by a company to make Christmas cards/mugs etc which can be purchased.

In previous years we have used Cauliflower Cards, but this year we will be using a company called Xmas4Schools. Please click on the link below to have a look at their website.

https://xmas4schools.co.uk/

The children will be creating their designs in school, which will then be sent home with an order form at the beginning of next week. The deadline to get the completed order form back to school with your order is next Friday, 11th November to ensure delivery in time for Christmas. No payments are required at this stage. Once the company have received the artwork and order forms, parents/carers will receive a text/email with their personal order code so you can then log in, place your orders, and make payment online directly with Xmas4Schools. There will be a short deadline to order items to ensure delivery in time for Christmas, so please ensure if you do wish to purchase anything that you do so as soon as you receive your order code from Xmas4Schools.

All products ordered will be delivered back to school and sent home with the children. We will of course keep you updated at each stage of the process and provide a reminder of deadline dates.

Flu Vaccinations Tuesday 8th November

Don't forget that the Vaccination nurses will be coming into school next Tuesday 8th November to give the nasal flu vaccine to those children in Reception to Year 6 whose parents have returned their consent form.

Parents Evenings Wednesday 9th November

Just a reminder that it's parents evening next Wednesday. Appointments will take place in your child's classroom. Children are welcome to attend if parents/carers wish them to. You will receive a reminder of your appointment time before the day of parents evening.

School Nurse available on Parents Evening

Poppies etc on sale from Monday 7th November

The Royal British Legion has again provided us with items to sell to raise funds for their charity, in the lead up to Remembrance Day. There will be various items for sale in each class, including poppies, stationery items, bracelets etc which are available for a donation to the charity. We are not specifying an amount for each item, as the Royal British Legion are always grateful for any donations provided.

The items will be on sale in each class every day next week.

Closure of Making Friends wraparound care

Dear Bawtry Mayflower families,

I am aware that some of you have now been informed of the closure, at Christmas, of the current extended schools service provided by Making Friends. We were very disappointed to hear that Making Friends had decided to finish their lease with us, and that consultation with parents had not happened prior to this decision. We do though thank them for the service they have provided for our families during this time.

We are, of course, now looking into alternatives in regards to arrangements to support our families as much as we can. These do currently involve discussions around another childcare provider taking on the lease as of Christmas, but we will also signpost other options where available.

There will be meetings next week to discuss these options, and I will contact you all again regarding the outcome of these as soon as possible to reassure you of what we, as a school, have endeavoured to put in place.

I do understand your frustrations at this news and at this time of uncertainty. We are very aware this is something that many of our families will rely on as part of their daily working schedules, so be assured as a school we are trying our best to hopefully bring some resolution to this as soon as we can.

Thank you for your support and patience regarding this matter.

Mrs L. Powell

Headteacher

Household Support Fund

Please see below information we have received from Doncaster Council regarding the Household Support Fund.

The next phase of the Household Support Fund will begin this month and end on 31 March 2023. The council will be awarding a single payment for food and energy to all Doncaster households on housing benefit, council tax reduction, universal credit (housing element), free school meals and/or pension credit based on household composition.

Many parents whose children are currently eligible for free school meals and still receiving one of the benefits listed above will automatically get this payment and will not need to do anything. The council will begin to send out the payments in the next couple of weeks.

There is also an application form for people to apply if they think they are eligible. Please click the link below to take you to the Household Support Fund page of Doncaster Council’s website. If you live outside of the Doncaster Council Local Authority, please contact your own local Council for further information.

Job Opportunity

We have some vacancies for relief Midday Supervisors in school at the moment. Our Midday Supervisors are a vital part of our team and are responsible for the children over the lunchtime period. They are with the children when they are eating their meal and also supervise them on the playgrounds at lunchtime. The role is really rewarding. The relief Midday Supervisors would cover for absences etc so wouldn't be required to work every day of every week during term-time.

If you are interested in finding out more about these roles, please call in at the school office or ring us on 01302 710721.

Children in Need donations

On Friday 18th November, we would like the children to come in their normal clothes rather than their uniform please. We will be fundraising for Children in Need on this day. The donations this year can be made on ParentPay rather than sending cash into school; however, you don't need to log in to your child's ParentPay account to make your donation. If you would like to make a donation to Children in Need, please click on the following link to do so:

https://app.parentpay.com/ParentPayShop/Foc/Default.aspx?shopid=8798

Please remember that there is no obligation to make a donation at all - all children can come to school in their normal clothes on Friday 18th November regardless of whether or not a donation is made.

Fun at Baking Club!

The Year 3/4 children who are currently taking part in our Baking Club are having a great time. So far they have made pizzas using a bread base, biscuits (with varying degrees of success due to the oven!) and pasta. The club leaders have lots more delicious recipes for the children to try in the coming weeks. We hope that parents/carers are enjoying tasting what the children have made - hopefully the children are being kind and are sharing with their families!!

News from Foundation

This week, the children in Reception have had lots of fun in the outdoor area, using the crates and balance steps to develop their gross motor skills. They enjoyed making their own obstacle courses using the equipment!

News from Year 3/4

Y3/4 this week have had a Bonfire Theme. We have read Bonfire poetry and used this to inspire our writing. We looked at how the Poets used alliteration, repetition and simile to create their poems and then created alliterative phrases and simile for our own poems.

In Maths we have been using right angles to check the size of other angles. We learnt that angles smaller than a right angle are acute angles and angles that are larger than right angles but less than 180 degrees are obtuse. We have also been learning to identify vertical and horizontal lines as well as parallel and perpendicular lines.

In PE we have been developing skills for Netball. This week we have been using chest passes to pass the ball straight to our teammates.

In Art this week we have been using watercolours to create rainbows and have blended the colours together for a true rainbow effect. Watch out for these coming home soon!

Congratulations!

Leo in Year 1 loves his swimming lessons and has recently been awarded with his 5m certificate. Well done Leo! You look very proud of yourself in this photo and we are so very proud of you too.

Lily in Year 4 was awarded the 'player of the match' trophy at football last week. What a fantastic achievement Lily - well done! Keep up the hard work.

Frankie in Year 3 is currently learning to play the guitar. He has lessons in school every week with Miss Hill from Doncaster Music Hub. Frankie has been working very hard at home too - he has been working on learning a piece of music with his dad. Frankie wanted to share this with his guitar group and Miss Hill helped the guitar group to play the piece of music, called 'Frankie's Friday Song' in their guitar lesson today. It sounded absolutely beautiful and was a real treat for the group to play. Thank you so much for sharing that with your group and with Miss Hill Frankie. We hope you and your dad will continue to work together to produce some more amazing sounds. Well done
