Attendance

Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week Miss Dunn's class had the highest attendance with 97.71%! Well done Year 6!

Please see below for the attendance figures for this week. The target attendance for all children is currently set at 97%.

Nursery - 81.33%

Celebrating fantastic attendance!

Each week, each class with 100% attendance on a particular day will receive one letter from the word MAYFLOWER to put on their classroom door. Once a class has spelt out the word MAYFLOWER, a member of the class will bring all their letters down to the office to claim their prize from our box of Awesome Attendance Activities!

Please see below where each class stands at the end of today:

This week, Year 4 have enjoyed some movie and popcorn time as their reward. Year 5 completed their first 'MAYFLOWER' this week and chose some movie and popcorn time. Some of the Year 6 children wanted to help in Foundation as their prize, so they will be helping our Reception children with their Christmas Art Project on Monday. Those in Year 6 who didn't want to go to Foundation will be having a separate reward.

Year 3 and Reception are so so close to completing their first 'MAYFLOWER' and Year 1 are really close to completing it for the second time, so we look forward to celebrating with those year groups next week.

Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.

Nursery & Reception

Star of the Week in Nursery is Rio. Rio has settled really well into Nursery  and comes in every morning with a smile on his face. He has been really good at helping the adults and loves doing jobs in the classroom.

Archie in Reception has been a superstar in P.E this week, he did some amazing listening and following instructions. He was a role model to other children, amazing work Archie!

Year 1

Evie - Evie is a such a wonderful member of the class. She is kind, caring and smiley. She also works incredibly hard in all that she does. She happily takes on challenges too and has even been practising her writing and spelling at home! Well done, Evie!

Aliza-Mae - Aliza-Mae is such a curious and thoughtful learner. She listens very carefully and asks some great questions. I have been so impressed by her knowledge of the world around her in our Geography and RE lessons and when learning about Black History Month this week. Keep dazzling us with your knowledge and your wonderful smile!

Year 2

Blu-Belle and Sam - for always showing respect towards all adults and children in school. They are kind and caring - looking after other children in the classroom and ensuring they have everything they need to complete their learning. At playtime, they ensure that other children are included in their games and are especially inclusive of our younger children. Well done for being so wonderful!

Year 3

Ottavia - Ottavia has shown courage and resilience this week in her learning. She always listens carefully and uses resources around her to complete her work. She has written a fantastic diary entry that included all the features we have been working on. She has shown real determination when learning her spellings and I am so proud of her.

Libby - Libby has worked really hard this week. She has had a positive start to Year 3 and is always ready to learn. She has shown excellent collaboration in maths when working practically and this was evident in her ability to explain her answers. I am really impressed with how focused and driven Libby is. Keep it up!

Year 4

Maddie S - for showing courage and resilience. Maddie was a little nervous about doing the road safety training this week, but she showed courage in taking part. She is also super resilient in that she has a go at everything, even when she finds it difficult. Keep it up Maddie!

Noah - Noah is a quieter member of the class who displays resilience towards all aspects of his learning. He has a wonderful 'get on and do it' attitude and can be trusted to do his best at all times. Well done Noah!

Year 5

Amelie - Amelie has made a great start to Year 5. She demonstrates increasing confidence in new and unfamiliar situations and faces challenges with a positive attitude. Amelie has been working hard, using the resources that she has been given, to complete tasks with growing independence. Well done Amelie! Keep it up!

Oliver B - Oliver works hard in every lesson and shows real determination to improve his learning. He is able to listen to and act on advice in order to ensure that he is being the best that he can be. Oliver is always polite and well-mannered and he is an excellent role model for other children. Well done Oliver, keep up the hard work!

Year 6

We have had another fantastic week this week in Year 6 and the children have worked really hard in all lessons across the curriculum. There are many children who have stood out to me, for different reasons, this week. These children in particular have gone above and beyond to be amazing:

Rose has worked hard this week to make sure that every piece of work is completed to the very best that she is able. She has taken all feedback on board and acted upon it to produce some fantastic pieces of work, of which she should be very proud. Rose is always polite and respectful and embodies our school rules at all times. Thank you for the positive contribution that you make to our class Rose.

Esme has made a conscious effort this week to improve the presentation of her work. She has taken it upon herself to spend time at home practising her handwriting and working on her overall presentation. This has been clearly evident in the work that she has produced this week in all lessons across the curriculum. Esme is kind and helpful and will do anything for anyone. Thank you for all you do for others in our class Esme.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.

This week’s theme was ‘Be courageous’ linked to our introduction to Black History Month. This amazing superstar has done this every day since she started at Bawtry Mayflower. Jagoda, you stand up for what is right and help others to do so too. You are a shining example of how to treat others at all times. Thank you!

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Hello Yellow Day/Non-uniform day - World Mental Health Day Thursday 10th October

Next Thursday, 10th October, is World Mental Health Day. In recognition of this, we would like to hold a Hello Yellow Day in school. The children are invited to wear something yellow along with non-uniform to school that day and can bring in a cash donation if possible to help fundraise for the Young Minds charity. Further information regarding this charity can be found by clicking on the link below.

https://www.youngminds.org.uk/?scrlybrkr=76d9fafa

Please don't worry if your child doesn't have anything yellow - they can just wear non-uniform that day.

All cash donations should be given to your child's class teacher please. We will let you know how much has been raised on next Friday's blog.

Christmas Design Project

The children have started creating their artwork for the Christmas Design Project for this year. As a reminder, the children design a piece of artwork which can then be used by a company to make Christmas cards/mugs etc which can be purchased.

For the last couple of years, we have used a company called Xmas4Schools. We had some lovely feedback from parents/carers about the quality of the products so have decided to use this company again this year. Please click on the link below to have a look at their website.

https://xmas4schools.co.uk/

The children will be creating their designs in school, which will then be sent home with an order form next Friday 11th October. The deadline to get the completed order form back to school will be Monday 21st October at 3pm to ensure delivery in time for Christmas. No payments are required at that stage. Once the company have received the artwork and order forms, parents/carers will receive a text/email with their personal order code so you can then log in, place your orders, and make payment online directly with Xmas4Schools.

The company cannot accept any late orders so if you would like to order some items with your child's design on, please return your order form by Monday 21st October at 3pm.

All products ordered will be delivered back to school and sent home with the children. We will of course keep you updated at each stage of the process.

Reception Phonics drop-in session Monday 14th October 3.15pm

We would like to invite parents and carers to our phonics drop in session after school on Monday 14th October at 3.15pm. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have about how your child learns through our phonics scheme Read Write Inc. There will be resources available for you to look at and a member of staff for you to ask questions.

Thank you

Early Years Team.

Individual & sibling photos

Thank you to James from Carmel Jane Photography who came into school on Wednesday to take the children's individual and sibling photos. The process ran really smoothly and we hope parents/carers will enjoy the photos that have been taken.

We should hear something next week from the company regarding when the photos will be available to order. We will send information out as soon as we receive it.

Carmel Jane Photography will be back in school in the Summer Term to take the class photos. If your child was absent from school on Wednesday and therefore didn't have their photo taken, there will be an opportunity for them to have it taken in the summer should you wish them to.

Harvest Service Wednesday 16th October

We are busy preparing in school for our Harvest Service at St Nicholas' Church on Wednesday 16th October. The children who have joined us this year are already learning the words to the songs and those who have sung them before have remembered them really well. We will be setting off to the church after morning registration that day.

If you would like to join us to walk to church and back with the children and enjoy the service, please let your child's teacher know that you can come along.

We will be collecting donations to take to church for the Harvest Service - we will give further details on next week's blog about who we will be helping with the donations this time.

Flu Vaccinations

As you are aware, the School Age Immunisation Team will be delivering Flu vaccinations in school on the 24th October 2024 to children in Reception up to and including Year 6. In preparation for their visit, we sent out a link via ParentPay email on Monday of this week so parents/carers could read some information about the vaccine and then complete the Electronic consent form.

The deadline to complete the consent form to ensure that your child can have their vaccination is 22nd October.

If your child is absent on the day, the team will be returning to school on 21st November to administer any missed vaccinations. You can also access one of the Health Bus sessions displayed on the Flu letter page (which can be accessed once you click the above link).

In preparation for the vaccinations, the team have put together a video to promote the flu vaccinations in school. You can watch the short video by clicking on the link below.

https://youtu.be/ViFRe_c0rm4

This year, all children who successfully receive their vaccine will be entered into a prize draw by the Vaccination Team to win an IPad or Love 2 Shop vouchers.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal

If you would like your family to take part in the Christmas Shoebox Appeal which was mentioned on one of our previous blogs, the leaflets for this are now available to collect from the school office.

As a reminder, the idea of this is that families fill a shoebox for a young family - the shoebox can include items such as toiletries, small toys, sweets/chocolate etc. We would collect the shoeboxes in and then the family who have suggested taking part in this would deliver the shoeboxes to enable them to be distributed. Families who take part are then able to track where in the world their box is delivered to.

If you would like to take part, please do not spend a fortune on your shoebox(es). Here are some ideas from Link to Hope on what you can include in your shoebox. Think about crafting or making something handmade. Find the present that is in your drawer that has never been used; the candle that you were given for your birthday; the scarf that you have three of; the multipack of socks that if a couple of pairs were missing you wouldn't notice; use the Buy 1 Get One Free offer on toothpaste the next time you are shopping; the small perfect cuddly toy that is sitting in your local charity shop just waiting to find a new home.

Further details of the appeal can be found by clicking the link below.

https://linktohope.co.uk/shoebox-appeal-2024/

The deadline to get the completed shoeboxes back to school is Friday 8th November at the very latest please.

Congratulations!

Noah in Year 3 attends a local Beavers group and this week was presented with his bronze badge award. This is the highest award a child can receive in Beavers and there are only 5 children in the whole group who have achieved it, one of them being Noah! Wow Noah! What an absolutely amazing achievement. Your family is so proud of you and we are too!
