Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them.

Foundation

Patrick in Nursery - This week Mrs Agus is really impressed with how well Patrick is listening and engaging in phonics and maths sessions with her. He is really eager and keen to join in and participate when working in his group.

Emilia - Mrs Mundy has been really impressed with Emilia's creative skills this week. She has done a beautiful painting of a rainbow and made a bag in the cutting and sticking area. She inspired other children to use her ideas to make their own creations.

1/2A Mrs Davies

Annie W - for being a fabulous member of the school community, showing respect to everyone and being a good friend to anyone who needs a friend.

Noah G - for being an outstanding pupil, showing respect and being kind and helpful to everyone.

1/2B Miss Cruickshanks

Edward - For being the perfect role model, for showing deep rooted respect to all children and staff and for being the best role model to others ALWAYS!

Maddie D - For having a heart of gold and for always being a caring and supportive friend to all. Well done!

1/2C Mrs Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor

Olive - for being an absolute superstar! She is so wonderful in the class, helping others and the adults. She is able to play with and support anyone in our phase - such a great member of the class.

Layla - She has been wonderful this week and is working so hard to try and improve her attitude and learning. As such, she is now showing great improvement with her handwriting. It is amazing! It has been wonderful not only in her writing lessons but also in all subjects. Well done Layla!

3/4A Mrs Wood

Max has been working even harder than normal this week as he has taken extra time to support other children with their learning. He gives support without telling the answers - perfect! He has been an amazing friend, supporting children kindly with break time issues and helping to make sure other children are happy and have someone to play with. Excellent!

Gracie-Leigh has been working hard as usual this week. She has shown how mature and sensible she is with her approach to her own work but also when supporting other children. Gracie-Leigh has noticed children in class who were upset and supported them in a kind and gentle manner which resulted in problems being sorted. Amazing!

3/4B Mrs Perry

Brandon: For working hard. His work ethic this week has been amazing. He has tried his best across all subjects and taken all feedback on board to better his learning. Even going on to then help others. Well done Brandon.

Adomas: For working hard. His work ethic this week has been amazing. He has ignored any possible distractions, mantained a neat presentation and taken all feedback on board to better his learning. Well done Adomas.

5/6A Miss Dunn

Our theme this week has been about respect - challenging discrimination and stereotypes against others and this links really well with Y5/6 current topic: Human Rights and Responsibilities. Y5/6A Stars of the Week have been chosen with this in mind.

Aria has shown respect and understanding whilst learning about the protected characteristics, under the Equality Act, as part of our humanities learning. She understands that everyone is different but is entitled to the same rights. Aria respects everyone as an individual and shows compassion and empathy for all members of the class and school community at all times.

Carson has shown respect and understanding whilst learning about the protected characteristics, under the Equality Act, as part of our humanities learning. He can clearly articulate the meaning of key vocabulary, such as discrimination, diversity and equity and can give examples of this. Carson respects all members of the school community and treats staff and his peers with compassion.

5/6B Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker

Charlotte comes to school each day with a positive mindset and a determination to do even better than the day before. Charlotte is beginning to show the resilience necessary to pick herself up when she encounters problems and to treat each day as an opportunity to learn and grow.

Hunter comes to school each day with a smile on his face and a positive, 'can-do' attitude. He recognises that each day is an opportunity to be better and to do better and he is beginning to push himself to do just that. Keep it up!

Notifying school of a child's absence

Please remember that if your child will be absent from school on a particular day, please ensure you phone the school office as early as possible that morning. If a member of the office staff isn't in to take the call, you can leave a message on the answer machine and this will be picked up as soon as they arrive.

It is very important that this call is made please. A call is needed rather than an email, as emails are quite often not first priority when the office staff arrive (depending on how busy the office is each day). If we do not have a reason for absence, staff will make calls to all emergency contacts and, if no contact is made at that stage, a home visit may be necessary. This takes up time that could have been avoided had the initial phone call been made to school.

Payment for After School Clubs

If your child has secured a place on one of our after school clubs this term and this is something you usually pay for, please ensure that the payment is made on ParentPay as soon as possible if you haven't already paid. Payment was due prior to the clubs starting, so these payments are now very overdue.

Attendance Monitoring

Attendance monitoring takes place regularly at Bawtry Mayflower. A monitoring meeting will be held next week and letters will go out as necessary following this. These letters are a statutory requirement, as we are obliged to keep parents/carers updated regularly if a child's attendance falls below our target attendance percentage of 97%. We will also send out letters if attendance has improved. If there is anything you wish to discuss in relation to your child's attendance at any point, please don't hesitate to speak to your child's teacher or contact the school office to arrange to speak with Mrs Powell.

Coronation Celebrations!

What a fantastic day we have had in school today to celebrate the King's Coronation this weekend. The children have taken part in a variety of Coronation-themed activities, including making finger-print flags, decorating biscuits and making their own crowns.

We crowned our Mayflower Monarch today too! The children were invited to write a persuasive postcard to Mrs Powell explaining why they should be crowned the Mayflower Monarch. Henry in Year 5 was chosen; Henry's reasons included that he likes having responsibilities, is brave and strong and - the best reason ever -  he would look good in a crown! Well done Henry!

The weather was super kind to us today for our whole school picnic. We were worried at the start of the day that everyone would need to be inside and had what seemed like plans A-Z which covered every eventuality we could think of! As it turned out, the sun shone for us and we were able to hold the event outside (which was Plan A!!). We were blown away by how many families attended the picnic and there was lots of lovely feedback about the event. It was so lovely to welcome families into school and the children had a fantastic time! The children had been learning Makaton signs to 'God Save The King' and performed this to their families as a wonderful end to what was a really special event.

We would like to give special thanks to our cook, Mrs Rushby and her fabulous kitchen team who made up picnic boxes for the children. She also made over 150 crown biscuits for all the visitors - these looked amazing and feedback was that they tasted even better than they looked! We are very lucky at Mayflower to have such a fabulous catering team, who work with us to provide these yummy goodies for our events and we are extremely grateful.

Please click on the arrows to the left and right of the Blog image at the top of this page to see some photos from today's picnic.

Oscar in Year 1 and his brother Isaac, who is in Nursery, went to London last Saturday. They loved seeing Buckingham Palace and Big Ben after learning all about the Kings coronation in school. They wanted to share this picture for the school blog. We hope you had a fantastic time boys - we bet it was really busy even one week before the big event!

Recognition Board Success

Congratulations to the children below who have received their Recognition badges from Mrs Powell recently. They all got their names under all 3 categories on the Recognition board - Work Hard, Be Kind and Be Respectful. Well done everyone!

If your child has been awarded with their Recognition Badge recently and hasn't yet appeared on one of our Friday blogs, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and we will make sure we celebrate their success on one of our future blogs.

Congratulations!

We have some wonderful news to share with everyone. Mrs Walker, our Deputy Head, recently started her maternity leave and shared with us recently that baby Harper arrived safe and well. The whole family are doing really well and are adjusting to life with a little baby. Harrison, Mr & Mrs Walker's little boy, is the best big brother ever and loves having a little sister! We are hoping to meet Harper soon and know you will join us in welcoming her to our Mayflower family.
