Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to everyone! We hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and a good start to 2023. The children have enjoyed being back in school this week, sharing with their friends what they have been doing over the Christmas holidays and what delights Santa brought them! We have some new children joining us this term and we look forward to getting to know them and their families over the coming weeks and months.
We are looking forward to a busy term with lots of super learning, some visitors coming into school to work with our children and some visits out of school for some of our year groups.
Please remember to keep up to date with the diary dates below and on our school website - these are regularly updated when new events are planned into the diary.
Attendance
Please see below for our class attendance for this week.
This week, Mrs Davies' class and Mrs Perry's class both had 100% attendance! Well done 1/2A and 3/4B. We look forward to seeing which class achieves the highest attendance next week, when we're back to a full week again.

Reception - 92.05%
Mrs Davies (1/2A) - 100%
Miss Cruickshanks (1/2B) - 95.24%
Mrs Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor (1/2C) - 95.65%
Mrs Wood (3/4A) - 99.17%

Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker (5/6B) - 96.55%
Reminders from Mrs Powell regarding attendance
All the staff here and I are hugely aware that attendance plays a huge part in your child's learning and here at Bawtry Mayflower, we are striving to provide the children with the best start in life they can have and to do this they need to be in school and in their lessons.
School’s attendance is currently above national, however is currently at 93.7%. We are now excited and eager, after a considerable amount of illness in weeks 11 and 12, to improve this to reach the target of 97%!! We will be consulting all stakeholders this term to discuss ways in which we can positively celebrate and support attendance with our families in school.
Good attendance is classed as 97% and above
How can you help keep your child's attendance as high as possible?
Be on time!
Being more than half an hour late means we have to record your child as missing a full session which means it looks like they have not been in all morning even though they have been in for most of it! It also means they have missed an important start to their lessons that day.
Booking appointments
If you cannot avoid appointments on school days, then please try to book them for an afternoon and for as late as possible. This means they do get a mark for the afternoon session even if they have to leave a little earlier.
Holidays
No holidays will be authorised in school time without exceptional circumstances, and fines will be issued if they meet criteria.
Feeling Unwell
If your child isn't feeling quite 100% or something is bothering them, please do send them into school and we will keep a close eye on them and/or will have the opportunity to discuss with them their worries or concerns. We often see that they do perk up and feel better, but if not, school will contact you straight away. Not mentioning this in front of them will also help as they won't get upset and want to go home straight away. If your child is too unwell to attend, please contact the office as soon as possible to confirm this absence.
I do appreciate your support with this, and if you have any questions or concerns please contact me to discuss them.
Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. We will restart our Stars of the week feature on the blog next Friday, when the children have fully settled back in to the new term.
After School Clubs start next week
Don't forget that this term's after school clubs start next week. If your child has secured a place on one of the clubs and you haven't yet made the required payment, please ensure you do so before their club starts next week.
Choir also continues for those children who were taking part prior to Christmas. The staff and children are busy preparing for our visit to Sheffield Utilita Arena on Wednesday 8th February for the Young Voices concert. Further details regarding the arrangements for this will be sent home with the children in the next few weeks.
Please remember that if your child will not be attending their after school club for whatever reason on a particular week, you will need to let either their class teacher or the school office know so that the club register can be updated with this information. If we don't receive this information, your child will be taken to their after school club as usual each week.
Change of day for Year 3/4 PE
Year 3/4 PE is changing to a Tuesday from now on. A note should have also come home with your child today informing you of this change.

SIMS Parent - updating contact details etc
We use a system called SIMS Parent or Parentlite to enable parents to update and check the information we hold in school for you and your child.
Emails will be sent out at the beginning of next week to anyone who hasn't yet registered on the system. We would appreciate it if you could please register as soon as possible to enable you to then check the details held on our system at any time and update your contact details etc if they change.
If you have already registered, could you please log in and check the details held on our system and update/delete/amend as appropriate.
If any of the contact details of the emergency contacts change in the future, please remember to log in to SIMS Parent to make the necessary changes. At the moment, you will still need to update any changes to your contact details on ParentPay separately, but we are hoping that in the near future we can update ParentPay from the information stored on SIMS Parent.
If you try to log in and find you have any issues, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and we will look into this for you.
Recognition board success!
Congratulations to Zara in Year 4 who was awarded with her second Recognition badge by Mrs Powell just before Christmas. Zara had got her name under all 3 categories on the Recognition board - Work Hard, Be Kind and Be Respectful. Well done Zara! It's a fantastic achievement to get one badge, but to get your second badge shows that you are going above and beyond all the time. You are a super role model for other children.
Congratulations!
Bret in Year 1 and his brother Vinnie in Year 4 went on a skiing holiday to France during the Christmas holidays. It was Bret's first time skiing and was Vinnie's second trip away skiing. Both boys were awarded with medals by their ski instructors, which is fantastic! The whole family enjoyed their trip and it looks like they'll be going again, seeing as Bret and Vinnie seem to be naturals at the sport! Well done to both of you!
If your child takes part in an activity outside of school and would like to share their achievements with us, please email the details (plus a photo if possible please) to admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and we will include these on our future blogs.
