Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.

Nursery & Reception

Travis in Reception for having a good, settled week in school and responding to instructions when he has been asked to do something.

Scarlett in Nursery for good listening and being respectful, and for trying to do what is asked of her.

Year 1

Thomas M: Well done Thomas, we are super proud of your hard work and growing confidence. You have shown great responsibility and taking pride in your Maths work and this has been rewarding to see. Keep up the good work.

Eleanor F: Well done Ellie, you have been a fantastic role model in Year 1 this week. We are proud of how you have been working hard and being respectful with your friends and teachers. You have made a great effort in exploring new provision areas in our classroom and we have enjoyed seeing your confidence flourish.

Year 2

Keira - for being kind, caring and respectful towards everybody she meets. She listens carefully to others and shows respect of the attitudes of those around her, being an excellent role model in tolerance.

Joseph - for being a wonderful model of tolerance and forgiveness. He listens carefully to others and treats everyone with respect.

Year 3

Lily E - for always being hard working. Lily is always trying her best, offering answers in class discussions and helping her peers. Lily produced a great piece of descriptive writing as a product of her hard work. Well done!

Evie - Evie has had a brilliant week, she has been recognised for being kind, respectful and hard working on multiple occasions this week. Evie has been as asset to our class this week in all areas. Well done!

Year 4

Sophia B and Tamara have been my 'always' children this week.

They both demonstrate in class that they follow our school rules brilliantly and they set an excellent example to other children. They are always working hard, always being respectful and always kind to others. Fantastic!

Year 5

Lily accepts people for who they are and always treat others how she would like to be treated - with kindness and respect. She will work with others when asked to do so and accepts that other people may think differently to her.

Jack R is invariably kind and respectful. He thoughtfully listens to other people's opinions and accepts that other people may think differently to him.

Year 6

This week in school, we have been focusing on positive mental health and the children have been thinking about how to manage their own worries and about the things that they can do to help themselves, and others, when they feel worried or nervous about something. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.

Sebastian - I have seen a real improvement this week in Seb's confidence and in his willingness to push himself and to try things, even though he may be worried or nervous about them. This was also evident during last week's residential where he managed his nerves effectively and pushed himself out of his comfort zone to try every activity. I am very proud of you Seb and can see that this positive 'can do' attitude has also transferred to your work in school.

Skyla - I have been so impressed by your confidence and your positive attitude since joining us in Year 6 only a couple of weeks ago. During residential last week, you embraced all opportunities and put your nerves aside to give every activity a really good go. You have settled so well into our class and even though this is only your second week with us, you played an active role in our welcome assembly this week, speaking clearly and confidently in front of a large audience.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week, Patrick in Year 1 was presented with the trophy. Patrick is absolutely wonderful; he is super helpful and kind to everyone and always has a smile for everyone. Thank you Patrick for being you - you are a joy to have in school and you really do make everyone's day brighter.

Secondary Applications for September 2024

If your child is currently in Year 6, you can now apply for a secondary school place for them for September 2024 as the application process is now open. If you live in the Doncaster Local Authority, please click on the following link to start your application.

https://www.doncaster.gov.uk/services/schools/secondary-admissions

If you live in another Local Authority, please contact your local School Admissions Team.

The deadline for secondary school applications is 31st October 2023, so don't forget to make sure you've completed your application and have a receipt before then. In the meantime, you can always check in with your local secondary school to see when their next open day is and pop in to visit before making your appplication.

It is really important to apply by this deadline, as Doncaster Council are aware that a number of schools will be full next September.

Can you spare some time to help us please?

Can you spare a few hours each week to come into school and help us please? We are looking for some volunteers to help with reading, active play and with our allotment. If you may be interested, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk or ring the school office on 01302 710721 and we can make an appointment for you to come into school for a chat and to get further details.

Sharing your work role with our younger children

The children in Nursery and Reception are currently working on their topic 'People in our lives'. Would you be willing to come into school for 15-20 minutes at some point this half term to talk to the children about your job role? The children will ask you some questions so that they can use this information as part of their topic work.

If you would be interested, could you please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and provide some details about your job role and your availability to visit school. We can then discuss this with you further.

Christmas Art Project 2023

The children have been creating their Christmas designs in school this week and these will be sent home next week if they haven't come home already. The deadline to get the completed order form back to school is Wednesday 18th October to ensure delivery in time for Christmas. No payments are required at this stage. Once the company have received the artwork and order forms, parents/carers will receive a text/email with their personal order code so you can then log in, place your orders, and make payment online directly with Xmas4Schools.

All products ordered will be delivered back to school and sent home with the children. We will of course keep you updated at each stage of the process and provide a reminder of deadline dates. Please keep an eye out on our Friday weekly blog for further details.

Wear Something Yellow for World Mental Health Day Tuesday 10th October

As advised on the diary dates on our weekly blog and in our email earlier this week, we would like everyone to wear something yellow next Tuesday, 10th October in support of World Mental Health Day. World Mental Health Day is about raising awareness of mental health and driving positive change for everyone's mental health.

Please don't worry if your child doesn't have anything yellow to wear. They can just come in non-uniform that day.

Non-uniform day Friday 13th October

Next Friday, 13th October we would like to have a non-uniform day. We would like the children to bring in food donations for the Harvest Festival. These will be donated to local food banks - we have done this in the past and parents/carers were so generous. The foodbanks are always so grateful for the donations they receive.

We have provided details below of what food items are most in need at the food banks at the moment; however, any donations will be most gratefully received.

As shared on last Friday's blog, our Year 6 children went on their residential to Caythorpe Court PGL last week. They had an amazing time and some of the children have shared their favourite activities and memories with us.

Faith - my favourite activity was the zip line. My favourite memory was staying up until 3am in the dorm!

Brione - my favourite activity was the rock climbing.

Carson - my favourite activity was orienteering. My favourite memory is the teachers splashing us with water in the dorm!

Leo - my favourite activity was the Jacob's Ladder. My favourite memory is when me and Ella capsized our canoe!

PTA Foundation Crafternoon

This week, it was the turn of our Nursery and Reception children to have their PTA Crafternoon event. They came along with their parents/carers/family members and had a fantastic time. All the craft and social events that have been held this half term have been really well supported by our families and children and we look forward to many more events in the future.

Congratulations!

Layla in Year 6 has done something really amazing this week. Layla has wanted to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust for a while and had her hair cut yesterday to enable her to do this. As you can see from the picture prior to having her hair cut, Layla's hair was extremely long and even with over 35cm of hair being cut, it is still lovely and long and looks beautiful. Layla has raised £205 so far for the Little Princess Trust. Well done Layla - what a truly selfless thing to do to help others. We are so proud of you!

Recognition Board Success

Congratulations to Darcy in Year 4 who received her 5th Recognition Board badge from Mrs Powell today. To be awarded with their badge, the children have to get their names under all 3 categories on the Recognition board - Work Hard, Be Kind and Be Respectful. Well done everyone!

If your child has been awarded with their Recognition Badge recently and hasn't yet appeared on one of our Friday blogs, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and we will make sure we celebrate their success on one of our future blogs.
