Weekly Blog Friday 6th September 2024

Date: 6th Sep 2024 @ 8:40am

Welcome Back!

What a fabulous first week back we have had! We have welcomed everyone back, including our new children in Nursery, Reception and also throughout school. It has been lovely to hear children again in school - it's not quite the same when staff are in during the holidays and it's quiet!

We hope all our new children have had a lovely first week at Mayflower. They have all settled in really well and we look forward to getting to know them and their families as the weeks and months progress.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Attendance

Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week Mrs Pickersgill's class had the highest attendance with 98.72%! Well done Year 5!

Please see below for the attendance figures for this week. The target attendance for all children is currently set at 97%.

Nursery - 93.33%

Reception - 96.67%

Year 1 Mrs Birkinshaw & Mrs Ward - 98.15%

Year 2 Mrs Davies - 88.44%

Year 3 Mrs Parkes & Mrs Ronan - 93.91%

Year 4 Mrs Wood - 98.69%

Year 6 Miss Dunn - 96.08%

Celebrating fantastic attendance!

Each week, each class with 100% attendance on a particular day will receive one letter from the word MAYFLOWER to put on their classroom door. Once a class has spelt out the word MAYFLOWER, a member of the class will bring all their letters down to the office to claim their prize from our box of Awesome Attendance Activities!

We have had a fantastic start to the new school year. Please see below where each class stands at the end of today:

Nursery -

Reception - M A

Year 1 - M A Y F

Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.

Year 6

We have had a fantastic first week back in Year 6 this week; I have been so impressed with all the children and am looking forward to the rest of this year with my new class.

This week's Year 6 Stars of the Week are as follows:

Wynter - Wynter has had a fantastic first week in Year 6; she has exemplified our school rules of be kind, be respectful and work hard, in every single lesson and has gone above and beyond to make sure that her work is the very best that it can be. Fantastic start Wynter.

Caydon - Caydon has had a great first week in Year 6. He has shown me that he can follow our school rules and has worked hard in all lessons, producing some fantastic work to be very proud of. What a brilliant start to the new school year Caydon!

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.

This week’s theme was ‘Be the difference; make the difference’ and this amazing superstar has done this every day since he started. Jasper, you make everyone smile and bring joy to your friends, the classroom and around school. You even have a wonderful ability of making a positive difference to everyone’s day – thank you!

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Medical appointments during school time

We appreciate that there may be occasions where children need to attend medical appointments during school time. We just wanted to remind parents/carers that we will need to see confirmation of the appointment prior to it taking place please so we can add it to our records. This is standard procedure.

We don't need a copy of the letter/appointment card/text etc, we just need to have sight of it, either by bringing it to the school office or emailing a copy to admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk

PTA Annual General Meeting Thursday 12th September 3pm

Our PTA will be holding their Annual General Meeting next Thursday, 12th September at 3pm in the lower school hall. The PTA plays a vital role within our school, organising lots of fun events throughout the year for our children and families and raising additional funds to support us with projects etc.

Please come along next Thursday if you can. If you are unable to make alternative arrangements for your child, they are welcome to come along - there will be a film playing so that they can watch this while the meeting takes place.

If you would like to help or want to provide some ideas for future fundraisers but cannot come to the meeting next Thursday, please let the school office know and we will pass your details on to the PTA. There is no pressure to volunteer a huge amount of your time if you wish to be involved in the PTA - as much or as little time as you have will be amazing to provide support to the team.

We have also met with our PTA this week to discuss adding some exciting events for this school year. The dates for these will be shared in the 'Diary Dates' section of our weekly blog from next week.

There will be a prize for the class who is the first to return all their completed forms.

The Doncaster Online Safety Campaign

The Doncaster Online Safety Campaign is working to support professionals, parents and carers help keep children safe in their online world, to help them feel confident in talking about online safety with the children they know and work with, so that they in turn know that they can always talk to someone about anything that is worrying them.

To meet that aim, the campaign has organised a series of free workshops to help support parents, carers and relevant professionals.

The first dates in this series have been announced, the following will be virtual sessions via Teams:

  • Tuesday 10th September at 6pm
  • Wednesday 18th September at 4pm

Macmillan Coffee Morning Friday 27th September

On Friday 27th September between 9am and 10am, we would like our families to join us for a Macmillan coffee morning. We will be serving refreshments and will be collecting donations on the day to raise funds for Macmillan (although there is no pressure to donate anything - all are welcome to the coffee morning whether you can provide a donation or not).

We will be inviting other members of our community and would love as many families as possible to join us so please pop the date in your diary if you can make it.

https://www.doncaster.gov.uk/services/schools/nursery-admissions

If your home address is outside of the Doncaster Council Local Authority, you will need to apply through your Local Authority for a nursery place.

Key Stage 1 Equipment Store

Mr Palmer, our Site Manager, has asked us to contact parents/carers with a special request. He is currently looking at making some doors for the Key Stage 1 equipment store which is on the lower playground. If you have some timber which you would be willing to donate, could you please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk or call into the school office to let us know. Mr Palmer has said that timber 4"x1" would be ideal but we can work with whatever you are willing to donate.

Asda Rewards - School Cashpot

If you shop at Asda and have the Asda Rewards app, we are hoping you can take a few moments to help us please. Could you please add our school to your app so that we can top up our own Cashpot. When you shop with Asda, Asda will donate 0.5% of the total spend each time to our school. This is additional to your own earnings and doesn't take anything out of your Cashpot.

Thank you in advance for your support with this. We will keep you updated with how our Cashpot is growing.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal

One of our families has been in touch with us to ask if we would be willing to take part in the Christmas Shoebox Appeal. The idea of this is that families fill a shoebox for a young family - the shoebox can include items such as toiletries, small toys, sweets/chocolate etc. We would collect the shoeboxes in and then the family who have suggested taking part in this would deliver the shoeboxes to enable them to be distributed. Families who take part are then able to track where in the world their box is delivered to.

Further details of the appeal can be found by clicking the link below. We will provide more information once details of the collection date etc have been finalised.

Congratulations!

Max G Sept 2024.jpg

Max in Year 2 was awarded his 10 metre swimming certificate at the beginning of this week. This would be a fantastic achievement for anyone, but Max has only been learning to swim since the end of June! Wow Max! You are definitely a swimming superstar. Your family are so proud of you and we are too - well done!
