Celebrating fantastic attendance!
This term, we want to continue to celebrate our children's fantastic attendance. As you are aware, each class with 100% attendance on a particular day will receive one letter from the word MAYFLOWER to put on their classroom door. Once a class has spelt out the word MAYFLOWER, a member of the class will bring all their letters down to the office to claim their prize from our box of Awesome Attendance Activities!

Is your child a HERO?
During week commencing 18th March we will be having a real push on encouraging all children to be Here, Every day, Ready and On time. Every child who arrives on time for school will receive a raffle ticket. Those with 5 raffle tickets at the end of that week will be entered into a prize draw, with a chance to win a movie night hamper for the whole family to enjoy.
We hope everyone is up for this challenge and will remind everyone again on next Friday's blog.
Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.
Nursery & Reception
Reception - Louis for being kind and caring towards the other children and being really helpful to the adults. He has also been trying hard in Read, Write, Inc, to do his best.
Nursery - Oliver B for doing his best sitting and good listening on the carpet. He has settled in well and is understanding and following the routines of the classroom and starting to form good friendships with the other children.
Year 1
Henry: Henry is a fantastic role model and has a great attitude towards his learning. He has progressed very well in his reading and will often make sure he has spent time in our class reading area. His achievements are always acknowledged by all staff in Year 1. Keep up the hard work, Henry!
Emilia: Emilia is always so keen in her learning and challenges herself to be the best she can! Emilia has been a Star Reader in Year 1 and has achieved many certificates this term to celebrate her love for reading. Well Done, Emilia and keep up the good work.
Year 2
Bret and Sadie - for reading most days, every week and always having their reading record signed. Their passion for reading and the progress they have made as a result is a joy to behold!
Year 3
Olivia C - Olivia has shown dedication to her reading this year, she is reading twice at home every day. Olivia transfers her reading skills into our class reading lessons and is eager to develop her understanding by unpicking texts and using her retrieval skills to answer questions. Olivia achieved silver level in our school reading challenge early on in the year and is already on her way to gold.
Rose - Rose loves reading and reads a wide range of texts. She transfers her knowledge of different texts and skills into our reading lessons. Rose is able to apply her skills in a variety of ways including within her writing, her vocabulary and imagination for writing is fantastic and it comes from her love of reading.
Year 4
Oliwia - Oliwia is one of Y4's Star readers! She reads regularly at home and always remembers to get her Reading Record signed by an adult. Oliwia loves reading and is an excellent example for other children in class.
Oliver B - Oliver is one of Y4's Star readers! He reads regularly at home and always remembers to get his Reading Record signed by an adult. Oliver reads a lot at home and at school and is happy to talk about books that he has read.
Year 5
Jace - Jace's love for reading has grown over the year. He is reading more fluently as a result of regular practice, and enjoys reading more demanding books. Jace reads independently showing developing understanding; he is able to make simple, plausible inferences about events and information, using evidence from the text. Well done Jace, keep up the good work!
Elsie - Elsie is an avid reader who clearly has a real passion for reading. She has always got a book in her hand and shows obvious enjoyment in reading, choosing a good range of appropriately challenging texts. Elsie derives pleasure from an increasingly wide range of books and is able to read silently for long periods, with sustained concentration. Well done Elsie, keep up the good work!
Year 6
The focus through school this week has been on reading, culminating in a whole school World Book Day celebration this morning. We have been looking for those children who actively promote reading and who show a genuine love of reading when discussing books that they are reading or have read. Regular reading at home is so important and this week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Aria - Aria is an avid reader who loves reading. She reads every day at home (and sometimes even more than once each day!). She shows enthusiasm and passion for reading during independent reading sessions and does not miss an opportunity to get her book out; as soon as she enters the classroom, it's the first thing that she does. Your passion for reading is a delight to see Aria and this has had a positive impact on your reading and writing in school.
Annabelle - Annabelle is our Year 6 reading ambassador, helping Mrs Pickersgill, our reading leader, with promoting a love of reading through school. She takes this role seriously and demonstrates commitment to it by regularly reading at home. Annabelle takes positively about books that she has read and this has a positive impact on not only her reading work in lessons, but also her writing.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week’s superstar award goes to Thomas in Year 5. Thomas is proving himself to be one of our superstar readers in school. It isn't that long ago that Thomas received his bronze award for reading at home and now Thomas has received his silver award too! Thomas is an absolute delight - he has wonderful manners, is always concerned about how others are feeling and has a brilliant sense of humour that he often uses to make others feel better. Well done on this award this week Thomas - truly well deserved!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children have recently started learning Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign that the children will be learning next week.

Just a reminder to book your parents evening appointment if you haven't done so already. The parents evenings for this term will be held on Tuesday 19th March and Wednesday 20th March. Appointments will be available to book on both days for all classes except:
Nursery - appointments will be available for Wednesday 20th March only
Reception - appointments will be available for Wednesday 20th March only
Appointment time slots will need to be booked via ParentMail.
If you haven't yet registered with ParentMail, please do so as soon as possible. If you have any problems registering, please contact the school office as soon as possible.
The discussion between you and your child's teacher will take place in person in the lower hall. Children are welcome to come along if parents wish them to.
Doncaster Council Schools Catering Team, who provide our school dinners, will be here again too with a selection of delicious food for you to enjoy either before or after your appointment. As well as the meat option, there will also be a vegetarian option and allergen free alternatives, plus a selection of desserts.
Wraparound Care Update
This is an update regarding the final continuation outcome for extended school provision here at Bawtry Mayflower.
I first want to express our huge appreciation to the team that has volunteered and covered again for this half term. This has been greatly appreciated by all the parents I have spoken to who have once again expressed their thanks too. And again, the children have been amazing and have been wonderful to spend time with in the morning helping me prep their breakfasts!
To confirm as planned, First Step – Active care https://firststep-sports.co.uk/active-care/ have agreed to continue with the wraparound care here at Bawtry Mayflower from after Easter 2024. (Summer Term). This will be alongside a sustainability plan supported by the Local Authority which will be essential as numbers have been very low the last few weeks.
In the next 2 weeks, they will be introducing their staff to school and the children currently accessing childcare and coming in to school to do an assembly to promote the offer. From this, their online portal for booking will open and you will book your needed mornings/evenings through this. They will be providing lots of information on how to do this for us to give out to you when they visit.
Thank you all for your ongoing support.
Mrs Powell.
After School Clubs for after Easter
The letters for the next lot of after school clubs, which will start after Easter, should have come home with the children in Year 1 to Year 6 this week. The deadline for the slips to be returned is next Monday 11th March. All children who return their slips by next Monday will have an equal chance of being allocated a place on a club; however, there are limited spaces so it may be the case that not all children will get a place on their chosen club.
If your child is in Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6) the reply slip MUST be fully completed, especially the section which asks whether your child will be collected or will be walking home. If this section is not fully complete, the slip will be returned home with your child and they will only be considered for a club when the slip is returned correctly completed.
Emails advising you as to whether your child has secured a place on their chosen club or not will be sent out by Friday 22nd March. The payment items for the clubs will then be added to ParentPay on Monday 25th March, allowing you to pay for the clubs between 25th March and the end of the Easter holidays. Please ensure that payment is made by the end of the Easter holidays ready for the clubs starting on the first week back.
Year 3/4 PTA Social Thursday 14th March
Our PTA will be holding a ‘KS2 Social’ for our Year 3 & Year 4 children on Thursday 14th March in our lower building. This will start straight after school at 3pm and will finish at 3.45pm. This will be an opportunity for the children to chill with friends, play indoor and outdoor games and to take part in some craft activities.
The children in Year 3/4 should have brought home a letter this week regarding this event. If you would like your child to attend and haven't yet returned their reply slip and £3 admission fee, please ensure these are brought in and handed to their class teacher by next Tuesday, 12th March at the very latest please.
Please ensure that the adult named as picking your child up is the one who comes to collect them.
No Thursday after school clubs for the next 2 weeks
As advised on the original after school club letters, there will be no Tennis, ASK or Gardening after school clubs on Thursday 14th March or Thursday 21st March. This is due to our Key Stage 2 socials taking place on these dates. The final sessions of all 3 Thursday clubs will take place on Thursday 28th March.
Our Emergency Childcare club will still be running as normal on the above dates.
Easter Chocolate Raffle
Don't forget that raffle tickets are now on sale for our fabulous Easter Chocolate Raffle. Tickets are on sale in classrooms or available from the school office, priced at £1 per strip of 5 tickets.
The raffle will be drawn on Monday 25th March during our morning assembly.
Good luck everyone!
World Book Day and Breakfast with a book
We loved welcoming so many families into school this morning for our 'Breakfast with a book' event. The children loved sharing their books with their friends and families and it was such a lovely atmosphere. We hope those of you who could join us enjoyed yourselves - the children love it when their families come into school and we look forward to more events of this nature in the future.
School was full of the most wonderful book characters today too for our World Book Day celebrations! There were many different costumes too, which shows the gigantic selection of children's books which are now available and also shows the wide variety of books that our children love to read.
Mothers Day Shop
We would like to say a huge thank you to our PTA who ran their Mother's Day Shop during the school day today. There is a huge amount of preparation and work that goes on behind the scenes to enable this and other shops/events to go ahead and be as successful as they are. The planning started months ago, together with buying enough stock to ensure that all the children who wanted to visit the shop had a wide selection of gifts to choose from.
Thank you to everyone who helped at the shop today. The children absolutely love choosing something for their loved one - it's very special for them to be able to choose their own presents and write on the tags and we are sure there will be some very happy mums and other family members this weekend.
Dodgeball Superstars!
On Tuesday, some of our Year 3 and Year 4 children took part in a Dodgeball tournament at Hatfield Woodhouse Primary. They had a fantastic time and were amazing ambassadors for our school. They were split into 2 teams - one of the teams came second and the other team came fourth. They were desperate to get back to school to tell all their friends about what an amazing morning it had been.
Elliot and Olivia, both from Year 3, were awarded with medals at the tournament for their sportsmanship. They have shared with us why they were chosen to receive the medals.
Elliot - I kept passing the ball to my team-mates so they could have a turn.
Olivia - lots of people kept hitting me in the face with the ball but I kept going and helped my other team-mates.
Elliot would really like to take part in another tournament in the future. Olivia said that the tournament was exceptional.
We are hoping that this tournament is the first of many, so that there are lots more opportunities for those who missed out this time to take part.
News from Year 2
Year 2 have been taking inspiration from the artist, Antony Gormley (the creator of the Angel of the North). This week, they learnt about his work and how he used his hands to mould clay when creating a piece called "Field".
The children really enjoyed recreating the piece, each sculpting their own person.
Kitchen Sink Science Fair Friday 15th March
Family Quiz Monday 18th March
We will be holding a family quiz on Monday 18th March, straight after school, as part of our Ageism Action Week. The quiz will be held in our lower hall. If you would like to enter a team for the quiz, please call in at the school office to sign up - please think of a fabulous team name! We hope you can join us.
Teams should be a maximum of 5 and we would like each team to consist of as many generations of family members as possible.
Refreshments will be available at the event.
Easter Bonnet Competition
The children should have brought home a letter recently about our Easter Bonnet Competition. All entries need to be in school on Friday 22nd March - please also send in your child's reply slip together with the £1 entry fee. If you would like another letter, please call in at the school office.
The Easter Bonnet parade will take place on Monday 25th March during assembly time, with winners being announced afterwards.
All monies raised will be put towards a revamp of our Early Years Foundation outdoor area.
Good luck and happy Easter bonnet making!
Looking after our community
Annie from Year 2 took part in the Bawtry Litter Pick last weekend. It was pouring with rain but Annie said she found it really satisfying. Well done Annie! What an amazing thing to do for our community. It's a shame that litter picks have to be done, as everyone should put their own rubbish in the bin but it's fantastic that wonderful people like you take pride in the place that you go to school and want to make it a better place for everyone. We are so proud of you.
If anyone would like to join the next litter pick later this month, please see the details below.
