Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.

Nursery & Reception

Nursery Star of the Week this week goes to Jenson who has been working with his friends, taking turns and sharing well. He treated all of his friends fairly and made sure that they all had a turn at steering the ship that they have built.

In Reception the Star of the Week goes to Hugo for taking a leading role in looking after our new resources and using them appropriately. He has also taken on the responsibility of ensuring that all of the equipment has been put away in the right places at the end of the session.

Year 1

Cole - Cole has been working incredibly hard in writing this week. He is putting in lots of effort and it is really paying off! He is a very good friend to others in class and never fails to make all of us laugh and smile!

Evie - Evie has had a wonderful week in school and we are so pleased to celebrate her as one of our stars of the week! She has been working so hard - from writing to art... Evie never stops trying her very best. She has been such a kind friend to others and is often seen sharing nicely and caring for others if they are upset.

Year 2

This week, we have been thinking about what makes a good leader. Our Stars of the week demonstrate many leadership qualities in what they do:

  • they listen carefully, respond respectfully, and see things from another's point of view
  • they identify and solve problems
  • they show compassion
  • they try and overcome challenges
  • they give others opportunities to do a good job and offering praise
  • they make decisions and learn from the consequences
  • they care.

Well done, Thomas S and Emelia!

Year 3

Arthur - Arthur has really impressed me this week. I have witnessed amazing leadership qualities from Arthur, both inside and outside the classroom. He is able to guide his peers and support them. Arthur has shown that he can be a positive role model by working diligently in all lessons. I am really proud of you Arthur.

Scarlett - Scarlett has shown high levels of empathy and kindness this week in order to support her peers. She has shown that she understands what it takes to be a leader and this was evident in the poem that she prepared this week. I am proud of her bravery and resilience this week. You are a star!

Year 4

Olivia C & James - for being excellent organisers and for always listening to adults and peers. Olivia and James are excellent examples of team players; always thinking of others and setting good examples for the other children both in their class and throughout school. Well done!

Year 5

This week, Year 5 have voted for who they would like to represent school and become head boy / girl. The two children short listed from our class are Katie and Seth. These two children demonstrate good leadership qualities. They articulate their views well and can accommodate views that are contrary to their own. They encourage other students to speak about their ideas and are humble in their interactions with others. They always lead by example and are excellent role models for other students. Well done Katie and Seth!

Year 6

This week across school, we have focussed on leadership; children have been learning about the American Election and have talked about what it takes to be a successful leader and the skills and qualities that good leaders have. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.

Lucy - Lucy shows the qualities of a good leader. She notices when things need doing in the classroom and ensures that this is done. She knows when it is necessary to take ownership and to lead in group situations and also knows when to take a step back to allow other children to do this. Lucy worked hard on her speech and delivered it with confidence to the rest of the class.

Valentina - Valentina put so much effort into her speech when running for Head Girl in school. She really thought about the needs of others before her own and talked about how she could help the whole school community. Valentina showed support for the other candidates in class and celebrated for them when they were short-listed. You are amazing Valentina.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.

This week's Star of the Week has been chosen as this person embodies what it takes to be a strong and enigmatic leader. This person is organised, helpful, kind and caring and always has others in her thoughts when doing anything. She is a fantastic person to have as part of our school. Well done Evelyn - you are an absolute superstar!

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

When we receive any further updates from Xmas4Schools with regard to delivery etc,  we will of course communicate this to parents/carers.

Parents Evening & School Spider

As advised earlier this week, the appointment system on School Spider for next Wednesday's parents evening is now open. You should have received a notification on your School Spider app to notify you that the bookings are live.

Any issues, please contact the school office.

For those with children in Year 4, a parents evening will be arranged at a later date.

The parents evening appointments are taking place in the lower hall.

If your child would like to purchase a poppy etc to help raise funds for The Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal and hasn't yet done so, the items will still be available to purchase on Monday in the classrooms. The suggested donation for each item is £1; however, all donations will be most greatfully received.

Once we have received confirmation of the amount our school has raised, we will share this on a future blog.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Thank you to those who have been able to support our Christmas Shoebox Appeal collection this year. The boxes have now been collected and will be delivered to the team at Link to Hope who will distribute them. We can't wait to hear where some of the boxes have been delivered to. If you have donated a box and have ticked to say you would like to hear what happened to your filled shoebox, it would be lovely if you would share this with us by emailing admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk

Bag2School Clothing Collection now Monday 11th November

Don't forget our PTA's Bag2School clothing collection will now take place on Monday 11th November rather than next Tuesday as originally planned.

Please click on the link below to check what Bag2School accept in their clothing collections.

https://bag2school.com/what-we-collect

Please bring your filled bags to school on Monday and leave them in front of the building outside our Foundation classroom, on the patch of grass opposite the shed. There will already be some bags in that area by the time parents/carers start arriving, so it will be obvious where they need to be left.

Bag2School usually arrive at the start of the school day so please place your filled bags in the collection area before school starts.

Bag2School will weigh the bags and our PTA will receive payment dependent on the total weight of all the bags. We will share how much was raised on an upcoming blog.

As advised on our diary dates, the school nurse will be in school next Tuesday to administer the Reception & Year 6 height and weight checks as part of the National Child Measurement Programme. This will take place during the school day.

Year 1 Tuck Shop every Tuesday

Year 1 will be holding a tuck shop on the lower playground after school every Tuesday during November. This is to raise funds to go towards their visit to Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery in December. Year 1 would really appreciate it if you could spare a few moments to visit the tuck shop to support them.

Year 5/6 Film Night Thursday 14th November

Letters were sent out earlier this week regarding next Thursday's PTA film night for our Year 5 and Year 6 children. if your child would like to attend, please ensure that their reply slip and £3 entry is returned to their class teacher by next Monday, 11th November please.

NO LATE REPLY SLIPS CAN BE ACCEPTED

Head Boy & Head Girl Elections

This week, there has been an extra buzz in school as the children make preparations for the introduction of our Head Girl and Head Boy. Children throughout school were asked if they would like to be considered and those that were interested wrote and read out speeches providing details of why they should be considered for the role. This has culminated in an election today, where the children have been able to vote from a shortlist of candidates.

The votes will now be counted and the newly elected candidates will be announced on Monday. Their names will be added to next week's blog, along with the names of all the other subject ambassadors in school.

Lunchtimes

This week, it was Bonfire Night. Mrs Stanfield, our school cook, once again got into the spirit of the event by producing a Bonfire Night menu. The children started with bangers in a bun, saute potatoes and vegetables followed by chocolate and toffee apples. Thank you Mrs Stanfield!

At playtimes and lunchtimes, our younger children now have Equipment Stations - these stations each have a box with a wide variety of different equipment and toys for the children to play with. The children are loving visiting each station to make their choice of which equipment they would like to play with. They are all superstars at taking turns and sharing the equipment, which makes playtimes fun and enjoyable for everyone.

Congratulations!

Zara in Year 6 was recently awarded with her Gold Award in Brownies. This is the highest accolade for a Brownie and is not easily achieved. Well done Zara on this fantastic achievement - we know you have worked hard to earn this award so it is truly well-deserved.

Olivia C & Lilly in Year 4, together with Lilly's sister Gracie in Year 6, recently competed in their first ever 1-1 Taekwondo competition and did not disappoint. Tom, their coach, has provided a breakdown of their competition for us.

Lilly was first to take part - she had two matches, used her speed very well and scored some amazing shots to win. Lilly's focus and determination was amazing to see. Lilly won both matches 2 - 0 🥇🥇

Next it was Olivia's turn. She also had two matches and just like Lilly scored some amazing technical shots. Olivia listened very well and won both matches coming away with 2 gold medals.🥇🥇

Finally it was Gracie's turn and Gracie really rose to the challenge. She used her range very well and kept her opponent at bay. Gracie's speed and will to win was evident for all to see and she listened very well too. Gracie also came away with a gold medal.🥇

All 3 girls are looking forward to their next competition later this month. Congratulations on your achievements so far girls!

The girls have been training for almost a year now at Bawtry Scorpion Taekwondo who train at the the New Hall in Bawtry on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5.15pm - 6.15pm.
