Welcome Back!

It has been so lovely having the children back in school this week. They have really enjoyed being back with their friends, old and new, and getting to know their new teachers. Everyone has settled in really well and we are looking forward to a school year which will hopefully be more normal than the last few years. We are looking forward to lots of visits out of school and welcoming visitors into school too, to enhance the learning experience for our children.

We would like to give a huge welcome to the children and families throughout school who are new to Bawtry Mayflower. We hope you will enjoy being part of our Mayflower family and we look forward to getting to know you and your children over the coming weeks and months.

We would also like to welcome our new staff:

Mrs Powell, our new Headteacher

Mrs Taylor, Year 1/2 teacher

Mrs Perry, Year 3/4 teacher

Miss Sunshine, Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Finally, we would like to welcome Mrs Birkinshaw (Year 1/2) back to school following her maternity leave.

Message from Mrs Powell

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am delighted to introduce myself to you as the new Headteacher of Bawtry Mayflower Primary School. I take great pride in being the Headteacher of a tremendously popular primary school, and I feel honoured to have been chosen to lead this school forward in the next part of its journey.

I would like to continue the hard work of the previous Acting Headteacher, and Executive Headteacher, and enhance the learning opportunities for our pupils even further. My expectations of the pupils at Bawtry Mayflower Primary School are high, and I am passionate about ensuring that all our children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Children are at the heart of everything I do, and I strongly believe that all children and adults should enjoy learning and experience success. I firmly believe that it is our duty to provide our children with skills for life, happy memories and strive for high standards in everything we do.

My vision for Bawtry Mayflower Primary School is one where we have changed the lives of our pupils for the better because of the start we have given them, helping them be the best citizens they can be. I believe this should be done in a safe and welcoming environment, with a dedicated team of staff who are motivated and challenged to deliver the best for all the children in their care.

Having met all the lovely staff and governors at the school, I am excited about the opportunity to lead this wonderful team. I can’t wait to get to know all the children and families at BMPS and as you are the most important person in your child’s life, it is important that we work together to support each other in making sure your child gets / children get the best education possible.

Once again, I look forward to meeting many of you soon and value your continued support for the school.

Mrs Powell (Headteacher)

PE Days

The PE days are as follows, starting from next week:

Reception - Monday

Year 1/2 - Tuesday

Year 3/4 - Thursday

Year 5/6 - Tuesday

On PE days, we would like the children to come in their PE kits please. They will stay in their PE kits all day, so there is no need to send uniform in for them on their PE days.

School dinner payments for children in Year 3 and above

As advised at the end of last term, the price of a school meal for children in Years 3 to 6 has now increased to £2.60. Children in Year 2 and below receive a free school meal as part of the Government's Universal Infant Free School Meal Initiative.

If your child has school dinners, payment for these should always be made in advance of the meals being taken. Payments can be made as far in advance as you wish. The amount paid then remains on your child's dinner money account on ParentPay and each time they have a school meal, the cost for that meal is deducted from the balance.

There is a facility to use Auto Top-Up on ParentPay, whereby you can set an automatic payment to the value of your choice to come out of your bank account when your child's dinner money account reaches a limit that you specify. This then ensures you don't have to remember to top up your child's dinner money account, as the system will do it automatically for you when required.

If you currently owe any dinner money, please ensure you log in to ParentPay as soon as possible please to clear the outstanding balance.

Bag2School clothing collection Thursday 15th September

Our PTA has organised a Bag2School clothing collection for next Thursday. Bag2School is a company who will collect any unwanted, good quality items for re-use. They will weigh the items received and we will receive a payment based on the amount of clothes donated.

Please click on the link below to see what items can be included in the bags for donation.

https://bag2school.com/what-we-collect

Your child should have brought home a Bag2School leaflet and bag today. Unfortunately there weren't enough bags to give to each child, so if you do have any items you wish to donate and didn't receive one of the bags, you can use a bin bag or other bags that you have at home.

If you have any items to donate, please bring the filled bags to school next Thursday morning and put them inbetween the tree stump and the willow tree at the front of the school building (in front of where our Foundation stage classroom is). Bag2School usually come and collect the bags at the start of the school day.

Guitar lessons start next Friday

If your child is in Year 3 and above and you confirmed that they would like to take part or continue with guitar lessons, these will start next Friday with Miss Hill from Doncaster Music Hub. If your child is new to learning guitars and you haven't yet purchased a guitar for them to use, please don't worry if they haven't got one for the first lesson. Miss Hill usually spends the first lesson getting to know those she hasn't met before and talks the children through how the lessons will work.

We have worked with Miss Hill for many years and have a huge amount of respect for her. She is brilliant with the children and has the knowledge and expertise to ensure your child will get the most out of their guitar lessons.

If you haven't yet paid for your child's guitar lessons, please ensure this is done by the end of this week please so that your child can start their lessons next week. As advised previously, we require full payment prior to the lessons starting.

School uniform donations

If you have any items of uniform that are in really good condition that your child no longer wears, we would really appreciate it if you could donate them to school if possible please. Our PTA are hoping to organise the sale of these items over the coming months. Uniform items have been sold in the past for a small price and funds raised help to provide additional resources for the PTA to donate to school to enhance the school experience for our children.

If you do have any items of uniform that you would be willing to donate to school, please bring them to the school office.

PTA Pie and Peas night Friday 30th September

Don't forget it's our PTA quiz night on Friday 30th September. The entrance fee will include pie and peas and the funds raised will go towards renovating the school library areas. There are still a few tickets left, so if you are interested in attending this event please see the poster below for details of how to purchase tickets.

School Nursing Team

The School Nursing Team, who work closely with school, has asked us to share their new telephone number with parents/carers. Please see the information below for details of the different ways you can contact the team.

Congratulations!

We have some very exciting news to share with everyone! Mrs Ronan, one of our Year 3/4 teachers, went on her maternity leave at the end of last term and has shared with us that baby Eli was born last weekend. The whole family are doing really well and are settling into becoming a family of 4. We can't wait to meet baby Eli and we are sure you will join us in congratulating Mrs Ronan and her family on Eli's arrival.
