Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
Tiana is the star of the week in Nursery this week. She has shown enthusiasm this week when we have been learning about Chinese New Year. She has shared her own experiences and talked confidently to the other children about how she has been celebrating at home.
Reception's star of the week is Riley. Riley has been fantastic at sharing with his friends this week, he has taken it in turns to have a go using our remote-control cars in computing and when taking part in activities as part of our P.S.E.D learning through the week. Riley has given all our learning activities a go and tried his best when doing them. Riley has shown his teachers the improvement in his listening skills and is trying hard to follow instructions in the classroom. This week Riley has become more and more independent in caring for himself. Well done Riley 🙂
Year 1
Aaron - This week in school, we have been thinking about being respectful and how we can show each other more respect. Aaron set a wonderful example of kindness and respect during a maths lesson this week. He listened really carefully and was a whizz at making o'clock times on his clock. He then took the time to help another child and explained how to do it so wonderfully. It is wonderful to see you helping, being thoughtful and doing some fantastic learning, Aaron!
Reggie - Reggie is always a superstar. He has really impressed the teachers this week with his wonderful reading! His hard work and super listening are making him into a wonderful reader. Reggie has also been making us smile lots with the wonderful models he has been making in construction, and the fantastic answers he has given in RE and Science. Keep up the hard work, Reggie!
Year 2
This week, we have been thinking about people who understand that everyone is a unique individual and that everyone deserves to be treated with respect. So, with this in mind, Year 2's Stars of the Week are:
Gabe - for treating everyone exactly the same, no matter who they are. He is a friendly face who looks out for others, quietly and respectfully. You really are a star, Gabe.
Evie - for always being the first person to enthusiastically welcome everybody to our class. She respects people's differences and opens her heart to everyone. Thanks for being so caring and respectful, Evie!
Year 3
Joseph - I am unbelievably proud of Joseph this week. He has made amazing progress in his writing and he has put a huge smile on my face. Joseph is always respectful to adults and uses his manners when speaking to everyone. Joseph has shown that determination and perseverance pays off!
Oscar M - Wow - what a superstar Oscar is. Oscar is a polite and respectful member of the class, showing his peers what the Mayflower Way is all about. In the last two weeks, Oscar has put so much effort into improving the presentation of his work and I cannot believe the difference in his handwriting. He is a star.
Year 4
Ellie - Ellie is always respectful to children and adults in class. She is polite and well-mannered and is an excellent role model. Ellie supports others in class and always shows she is respectful to school resources - she's a great tidier and organiser!
Jenson - Jenson has worked incredibly hard this week in class. He has been a great help when tidying up after the DT lesson and we do not know what we would have done without him showing such respect for the classroom and the resources. Thank you, Jenson!
Year 5
Sophia B demonstrates respect in school on a daily basis. She is invariably kind to others and is happy to take responsibility for jobs she has been asked to do, carrying them out in a mature manner. Sophia shows respect by listening attentively during whole class discussions and to her peers.
Joe is invariably respectful. He is always kind and sensitive and knows that some people may think differently to himself. Joe demonstrates respect by always following the class/school rules, sharing his ideas and thoughtfully listening to what others say.
Year 6
This week in school, our focus has been on one of our hugely important school rules: respect. We have been looking for those children across school who demonstrate this on a daily basis - showing respect to all members of our school community, to our school building and to all resources within it. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Piper - I have had so many positive comments about Piper from different members of staff across school this week. The respect that she has shown to members of staff and other children has been noticed by myself and others and as a teacher, it always makes me proud to have positive feedback about members of my class. What a fantastic week, Piper. Keep it up 🙂.
Max - It is almost impossible to celebrate those children in Year 6 who show respect without acknowledging Max. He epitomises this important value at all times, showing respect to all members of our school community day in and day out, demonstrating integrity and never deviating from this approach. Your contribution to our class is always noticed and appreciated, Max.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
This week’s Superstar Award goes to a pupil who is always striving for the Mayflower way, thinks about how people feel, and understands the importance of identifying and combating discrimination. Where possible, she tries to help others see the importance of looking after others too. Well done Annie W.
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Governor Vacancy
We currently have a vacancy on our Governing Body for a Co-opted Governor (this category of Governors is voted onto the Board by the other Governors). We are looking for someone who has strong links within our community and who could work with our existing Governing Body to continue to develop the strategic vision for our school. Please see the information below and details of how you can express your interest in this vacancy.
At Bawtry Mayflower Primary School we are looking for a co-opted governor to join our governing body. As a governor you will be a volunteer who makes a vital contribution to the success of the school.
School Governors have three main roles.
Governors ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
The governing body helps to set long-terms plans for the school, decide where improvements need to be made and how to make them.
Governors hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and the effective and efficient performance management of staff.
The governing body looks at the quality of education being offered and ensures the head is doing everything possible to improve results.
Governors oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.
Governors examine budgets and spending proposals to monitor whether the school is getting value for money and ensure the money is spent in the right areas.
This role may be particularly of interest if you have skills in human resources, data, or have strong community links but we invite applications from anyone who is interested in helping the school be the best it can be. Full training is available and governors are encouraged to attend regular training sessions, either in person or online.
We are looking for someone who can attend approximately six full governing body meetings per year and around six committee meetings per year. Meetings are held in school, usually on Wednesday evenings from around 4pm to 7pm. Governors also spend time in school during the day (around two visits per term).
You must be 18 or over to apply and all governors must have Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks. If you would like to find out more please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk for an application form.
Prostrike Fundraising Event
We are really looking forward to our Prostrike sponsored event which takes place next Wednesday 5th February during the school day.
On the day of the event, we would like all children to come to school in their PE kits and trainers please.
Sponsorship money should be paid online please. There is a QR code on the sponsor form to enable you to do this - the QR code is also shown below.
The deadline for all sponsor money to be paid online is next Sunday 9th February at 11.59pm.
The week after the event, we will receive details of how much each child has raised and what prizes they are due to receive. The prizes will then be delivered to school and will be taken to class for the children to bring home.
The more money the children raise, the more prizes they win. School will also receive 50% of the total sponsorship money raised.
Solihull Parenting Programme
We are pleased to offer our parents a free 10 week parenting programme – Understanding Your Child – in conjunction with the Solihull Approach series.
The course will provide an insight into your child’s behaviour and will provide support and skills to enable more effective communication with your child.
As part of the course we will explore:
- Tuning into children
- Exploring feelings
- Parenting styles
- Communication
- Temper tantrums
- Sleep patterns
- Behavioural difficulties
This will take place in school every Thursday afternoon 1pm – 3pm, starting 27th February 2025 until 15th May 2025 (the course will not run during the school holidays).
Refreshments will be available.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
To book your place or ask for more information please contact Mrs Westerman – Family Manager – via the school office.
Please note the course is for adults only and no child care for younger children will be available.
Support for parents/carers
Thank you to those parents/carers who booked to meet with Mrs Westerman (Family Manager/Pastoral Lead) and Mrs Walker (Deputy Head) this week for the first of our inclusion meetings. We hope those that came found it really useful.
As a reminder, as a school, we are committed to supporting all aspects of our children’s wellbeing and know that the relationships that we have with our families provides the strongest starting point for our children. We also know that sometimes parents/carers want to speak with school but can find it difficult to find the time or that sometimes just picking up the phone can be daunting.
At school we have a dedicated inclusion team who are here to support all aspects of the pastoral and mental health and wellbeing needs of our school community as well as support with any Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND). Mrs Westerman (Family Manager/Pastoral Lead) and Mrs Walker would like to offer parents/carers the opportunity to book dedicated time to discuss any worries or concerns.
These will be 30 minute sessions, available to book through School Spider, our usual parents evening booking system, that will happen on the last Tuesday morning of every month. School Spider will send out details of these sessions and they will be labelled as Parents Evenings as the system is already pre-populated with this title and it cannot be changed on School Spider; however, please only book onto the sessions if you have any concerns you wish to discuss regarding your child's needs or family circumstances.
We will always publicise our actual parents evenings well in advance of the date that these take place.
There are no worries or concerns that are too big or too small.
If you have been unable to book an appointment this time and have something urgent that you would like to discuss that you feel cannot wait until next month's sessions, please either speak to your child's teacher or contact the school office to arrange a call back or meeting with Mrs Walker or Mrs Westerman.
PTA Meeting Monday 3rd February
Our PTA will be holding their next meeting next Monday, 3rd February at 6.30pm in the Turnpike in Bawtry. Please go along and support them if you can. Without our PTA, our children would not be able to have the 'extras' that our PTA tirelessly organise and fundraise for.
If you can't make Monday's meeting but could spare some time to help at our PTA events, please let us know and we will pass this on to the PTA for you.
PTA Discos Wednesday 12th February
Letters should have come home with the children on Wednesday regarding the PTA discos which will take place on Wednesday 12th February as follows:

Congratulations!
Max in Year 2 is becoming a bit of a star of our weekly blogs! He was on the blog last week and has received another swimming certificate this week for swimming 25 metres! Wow Max, that's a long way to swim all in one go! Well done!
Chinese New Year Lunch
On Wednesday this week, the children enjoyed a change to the advertised menu as Mrs Stanfield served some Chinese inspired food to celebrate Chinese New Year. The children absolutely loved it - we didn't doubt that they would, as everything Mrs Stanfield makes is delicious! We hope that those children who don't usually have a school dinner but who wanted to try dinners on this particular day enjoyed their food.
We look forward to having some more themed lunches in the coming weeks and months.
Thank you very much Mrs Stanfield.
